  • This Week in Focus-CoEnzyme 10 (CoQ10)

CoEnyme 10 (CoQ10) is neither vitamin nor mineral nor an amino acid. Yet is absolutely vital to our health & essential we get enough of it. CoQ10 is known as an ubiqinone as it is ubiquitous in our body. CoQ10 is present in every cell in the human body. It resides within the mitochondria of the cells where life-sustaining energy producing processes take place. A good analogy for C0Q10’s role is similar to the role of a spark plug in a car engine. Just as a car cannot function without that initial spark, the human body cannot function w/o CoQ10.

The Benefits of CoQ10 are many

    Heart:
The Heart is utterly dependant on CoQ10 to meet it’s constant energy needs & the heart contains twice as much of the nutrient as any other organ or tissue in the body. Our heart is the motor of our body needs & needs an incredible amount of energy to keep blood pumping & new life flowing to every cell we have every second of every day. Most importantly CoQ10 supports the heart muscles strenuous effort of beating 100,000 times a day.. It is found that almost always patients with heart problems have a deficieny of Co10 when compared to their healthy counterparts. CoQ10 has been prescribed by doctors for heart patients in Japan for the last 15 years. It is used to treat cardiomyopathy & in contrast to other prescription medications has been found to have no side effects whatsoever. CoQ10 is also a powerful antioxidant helping to prevent the oxidation of LDL cholesterol the most artery clogging substance of all. Because CoQ10 mirgates naturally to your heart it may be the most important of all antioxidants for preventing atherosclerosis.

    High Blood Pressure
A tendency to normalize blood pressure in effected patients has been noted since 1976 by Japanese doctors. Dr Atkin’s clinic has found that supplements of CoQ10 ended dependance on blood pressure medication for over 85% of their patients.

    Diabetes
A daily does of 60Mg of CoQ10 has been found to help reduce high blood sugar within 6 months. Because hardening of the arteries is often a complication for diabetes it is doubly important as a supplement for diabetics

    Obesity
CoQ10 helps reduce your weight by facilitating the use of stored fat as fuel. Over 50% of obese people have a serious deficiency in levels of CoQ10, which many doctors think helps explain while overweight people are prone to heart disease & diabetes.

    Fatigue
CoQ10 is a great energy booster & fatigue fighter. It is especially valuable for athletes who perform under prolonged aerobic conditions.

Supplementation is usually based on 50-100Mg a day. I add below a little story about CoQ10 I’ve posted before .

I had bought my CoQ10 supply from the same company same bottle but some were 30Mg Caps & The others were 50Mg Caps, I try to take around 100Mg a day, half in the morning & half in the evening. I realized this morning when I got back from vacation & opened a new bottle I got the two confused, I have been taking two ea of the 50Mg twice a day thus upping my intake to 200Mg a day

I've been buzzing around like a madman all week, huge energy, turned in my best time ever on a 1&1/2 mile straight run last night, not hungry just full of energy. Put it down to my 'reinduction' but if you do your reading about CoEnzyme 10 enabling your cells to become powerhouses of energy I guess for me this pretty much proves it. Too bad the stuff is so expensive over here.
    Footnote
In terms of CoQ10 there is lot of discussion that some of the commercially available brands are poorly absorbed or assimilated so try to buy products that are labeled 'hydrosoluble' or have high levels of 'bioavailability'
I try to take one day at a time but sometimes several days attack me at once

Thanks for the post Skank. I always look forward to reading "This week in focus" I take CoQ10. The price is a little crazy but I thought it helped with the energy that I was looking for. I just bought my 2nd bottle at 150mg. I do not see Hydrosoluble or bioavailability on my bottle. Next time I will check out the other brand and see if those words are on that bottle.

That looks like an excellent product, as those are three of the most critical VitaNutrients for overall health as well as losing weight.

Pricing is good too when you compare to monthly cost of doing all three

Don't get me started about why Medical Insurance will cover prescription meds that 'maintain' your condition, often with dangerous side effects. but will not pay for vitanutrient therapy that actually cure you.

The medcial doctor/pharmaceutical/insurance mafia is giving us their less than perfect 'protection' while emptying our pockets. Sort of like the guy who comes around every Friday for protection money out of the till, we could do better using our own cash to protect ourselves.

Anyhow I'm 10 days from one year doing this & haven't been sick even one day in the WHOLE YEAR. So to me its money well spent

I take the CoQ10 as well, but at the moment I am more interested in what Skank just said about not being sick. I usually have at least one bought of respiratory problems a winter, usually a horrible head cold complicated by cough and sore throat. The cough usually lingers for weeks.

This year? Not a sniffle. Nada. And if you have ever had a cough that just will not go away, you know what a miracle that is!

Skank, I have read several bottles and have not read these words on any of them. What brand do you recommend?

Two top brands in the states that are good are
Twin Labs & Now (but they're far from the cheapest)
The tri-Nutrient stuff just posted looks interesting, if you read the product description you can see them talking about maximum absorbtion w/minimim wastage om CoQ10 part.

Book: same for me I usually get one of those samre types of 'flu's'every year too, but I have not been down 1 day (except for injury not sickness) since I started this program (knock on wood)

                      A previous poster said:
The list of medical problems that low carb dieting fixed for me is staggering. ....

                      Sleep apnea -- gone
                      Severe acid indigestion -- gone
Blood pressure -- first time I can remember in my life -- normal
                      Cholesterol - 150
                      Tryglicerides - 140
                      Chronic Fatigue Syndrome -- gone
                      Anxiety -- gone
                      Chronic Bronchitis -- gone
Well, I have Menieres disease. I have been able to reduce my meds, and have far fewer problems.
I get Basilar Migraines, I rarely have issues any more. If I do, it's usually when I went too high carb wise.
I have always been an asthmatic. Now, I am to the point that I am running at the gym! I never ran much as a kid. In soccer, I played fullback, minimal running required there. Mouth breathers don't run.
I also have sleep apnea. I don't seem as tired during the day as I used to, so I suppose that has improved as well.

I am interested in the 3 in 1 (NSI CoQ10 + Alpha Lipoic Acid + Acetyl L-Carnitine - 60 Caps) from Vitacost that was posted above. Not a great pill swallower so anything that cuts that down is great for me!
It says that the daily dose is one a day..would that be enough????

Also, I take meds for high bp, would this interfere at all?
