  • Re: ADBB Vitamin Club Conversation Thread

Welcome to the thread, Morning Glory.

There are lots of research on memory, Alzheimer's, and other brain-related issues, many of which, seem to be related. Ginko biloba helps improve blood flow in our bodies, especially the brain, thereby helping the brain function better.

A person can respond differently to supplements from others, partially from our own uniqueness, but also that supplements come in different strengths and formulations. How to choose? Well, if you read a random selection of scientific publications on ginkgo biloba, you'll see that most preparations are standardized to contain 24% ginkgo flavonoid glycosides, 6% terpene lactones, and no more than 5 parts per million ginkgolic acids. Therefore, look for supplements that state it contains 24% ginkgo on the label.

Most studies used 120-160 mg daily, in 2 to 3 divided doses. An initial period of six to 12 weeks is recommended to assess the effectiveness of ginkgo, although results have been seen as early as four weeks, so try it for at least that amount of time to see if improvement is noticeable for you.

Ginkgo biloba is also helpful for some folks with tinnitis, ringing in the ears, at doses of 160mg a day in divided doses.

You also shouldn't overlook the B vitamins either. Many of those are incredibly wonderful with helping the brain as well as other areas of our bodies. A good B-complex supplement will work wonders....try it and see!

Let me know if you have further questions.

Cynthia--Generally liquid extracts have a higher concentration, but some manufactures dilute their extracts to increase their profits. What a shame! Just goes to show you that reading and comparing labels are a must!

I've been doing ok with the vitamins. I do forget doses often, but I take them 3 times a day so normally I get some vitamins twice a day. I've also been taking lots of vitamin C powder lately to try to shake this sore throat/cough I have. Today is my first day without a sore throat in over two weeks, so lets hope it doesn't come back!!!

I still haven't gone to the pharmacy yet! We don't even have one where I live (Middle Of Nowhere). Tomorrow is my day off so I'm taking my Ginko info and I think I'll get the Centrum Silver, and some B Complex.
                  That's at least a start!

MG, maybe some places on-line might have the ginkgo that you want?

Sweet Strudel, I can't complain on what you're taking. Taking them on a consistant basis is key.

As for me, I'm taking my supplements....of course!

You will not believe what I did! It's a good thing I can laugh at myself.
Yesterday I took the printout from Bio about Ginko Biloba to the pharmacy, along with a list of other stuff to take. I just got all my vitamins/supplements lined up on the counter and thought I'll come in here and start reporting my intake. Guess what I forgot to buy? The Ginko!
                            Got everything else though:

                            Centrum Silver
                            Fish and Borage oil
                            Evening Primrose oil
                            B-Complex

Sigh...good thing I have to go to town today again!
