  • Iron?

I have seen several posts referring to not taking iron on this diet but why not? I can't find anything in the book about it, but what is the reason for avoiding iron even in your daily vitamins??

        Re: Iron?

Hmmm...I couldn't find it either--in the 2002 or 1999 edition. But I know I have read it before. I think you have to take that with a grain of salt, because as many other factors, your particular health varies widely from another's.

Iron is hard to absorb and women need more than men, before menopause. Even after menopause, women can be low on iron. My 84 year old sister was just given iron by I.V. when she was in the hospital.

This is one element that should be tested for when you have blood work done.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

          Re: Iron?

Hey there, you get lots of iron in your diet, and too much can cause constipation (which is already a concern). It's on page 36 of my book (Chapter 11, under the section Supplements for Everyone). Of course if you are anemic you'll want to discuss this with your doctor.

Which book is that? I have 1992, 1999, 2002 DANDR and Atkins Essentials, but none of them get to Chapter 11 by page 36.

Thanks! I had been looking for that everywhere! Well, not everywhere or I'd have found it!

I'm getting ready to read the book for the umpteenth time, so I can make a note on where to find stuff yet again.

I still can't find it in the book, chapter 11, page 136? ? But I will take you guys word for it. Per fit day I am getting plenty of iron anyway. Iwas just wondering about the constant cautions not to take it. All of my vitamins do have some iron in them and I hate to toss them! Maybe I'll find one without iron and alternate the pills so I don't waste the ones I have.

                          Thanks!

At least for me, as I go through the phases, what I read doesn't stick very well until it applies to me. That, and also I am old and addle-brained!
