I have osteo-arthritis in both of my hip joint (confirmed by x-ray). To manage the pain my doctors have me on the following:

Lakota (brand name) Rheumatoid Osteo Formula (not a prescription drug). It contains the following:

    1. glucosamine and chondroitin (without the chondroitin the glucosamine is very poorly absorbed, if at all). The glucosamine/chondroitin combo is an anti-inflammatory. It reduces the symptoms of the inflammatory process, hence the pain is mediated.

    2. Collagen Type II and L-Proline - these are chemicals necessary to restore the lost/damaged tissue (cartilage).

I am also on Mobicox (prescription drug). It is a pretty aggressive anti-inflammatory drug. I will be taking this for about 3 months total in the hope of controlling the latest "flare-up". Once things have settled down, I will discontinue with the Mobicox and stick with the Lakota.

Re: the post which mentions Vit B. The latest research re: bone health indicates that the B-complex vitamines are critical to maintaining bone health, in fact contribute significantly to the prevention of osteo- porosis disease.

Re: the post which mentions aggressive treatment of arthritis, again research suggets that a more aggressive approach is better than the palliative....prevents or lessens further damage to the tissues.
Do these drugs intefere with my weight loss? Not that I have noticed. Hope that this is of some help.

      drugs

Osteo Bioflex at WALMART is the cheapest. I look for sales all the time. Best time to get it. Alot of time it comes with a coupon for $1 to $2 off. That always helps. Walgreens is the most expensive. I have not seen THIS version in Sam's or Costco, though they DO have a brand in there.

I think this one is best absorbed. It has not helped with inflamation that I have noticed.

I DID go to the FEED store for MSM... At the Health Food store, I was looking to get extra of that in me, and was told I could NOT take enough tablets to really help. So now I take the HORSES strength every morning.

I AM walking better, it has really helped my knee pain.

I am afraid that alot of drugs SLOW down weight loss. It is upsetting to be sure! But if you NEED them, what can one do?!
