I have osteo-arthritis in both of my hip joint (confirmed by x-ray). To manage the pain my doctors have me on the following:
Lakota (brand name) Rheumatoid Osteo Formula (not a prescription drug). It contains the following:
1. glucosamine and chondroitin (without the chondroitin the glucosamine is very poorly absorbed, if at all). The glucosamine/chondroitin combo is an anti-inflammatory. It reduces the symptoms of the inflammatory process, hence the pain is mediated.
2. Collagen Type II and L-Proline - these are chemicals necessary to restore the lost/damaged tissue (cartilage).
I am also on Mobicox (prescription drug). It is a pretty aggressive anti-inflammatory drug. I will be taking this for about 3 months total in the hope of controlling the latest "flare-up". Once things have settled down, I will discontinue with the Mobicox and stick with the Lakota.
Re: the post which mentions Vit B. The latest research re: bone health indicates that the B-complex vitamines are critical to maintaining bone health, in fact contribute significantly to the prevention of osteo- porosis disease.
Re: the post which mentions aggressive treatment of arthritis, again research suggets that a more aggressive approach is better than the palliative....prevents or lessens further damage to the tissues.
Do these drugs intefere with my weight loss? Not that I have noticed. Hope that this is of some help.
