      (I just found this thread.)

For the past 6-7 years I have had 1 period a year. In June, 2 or 3 week of that month, very light, rarely needed to use anything because it was so light that by the time I noticed it was just a tiny stain. Within 3 weeks of starting this WOL, I got it so bad that I thought I was hemorrhaging! Lasted 10 days. Had another the next month, normal type. Mentioned it to my doctor and HE JUST LAUGHED AT ME! Said my body was starting to act like it should since I had losing weight. GEE THANKS DOC! Luckily I haven't had any more since (been 6 months now). KNOCK ON WOOD!

Hot flashes and night sweats are still here, although they seem to be letting up some. Been having these for 10 years and are used to them. No, I don't take anything for them. Sometimes they come in handy, like in the winter! LOL

Rhonda, you're a "hoot"!! They may come in handy in the winter but right now it's in the 100's (heat index) in Alabama. They are not wanted at my house. lol lol

I have to say that I did not start having periods again (thank the Lord) but I did start with the hot flashes and night sweats again when I started this WOE. Most of those were behind me but now I'm having them on a regular basis. They are minor and I'm just dealing with them at this point. It's more of a nuisance than anything else. lol

If you find anything that helps you, let me know and I'll be happy to try it. lol

it is very normal to experience an increase in estrogen levels and period flows when you start a weight loss plan. Our bodies store estrogen in fat cells and when those fat cells release the fats they release the stored estrogen too. I was looking for the topic discussing this from last summer but couldn't find it. If you are menopausal from low estrogen only this may be enough estrogen to tip you over the limited needed to menstruate in your body. the levels will drop back down soon as you deplete this store.

IF you were menopausal because you stopped having periods and were on a low fat diet you may have gotten your cals or fats too low to produce enough chemicals for your body to feel it was safe to reproduce and it shut down reproduction functions prematurely and now that you have an adequate amount of fat and calories in your body it has resumed normal functions.
talk with your doctor about whether you have a medical problem causing the bleeding like fibroids or if it is just an flux in your estrogen levels.

          happy low carbing.

Naw, I was menopausal 'cause I'm old! LOL I started in what they laughingly call "pre-menopause" when I was 41. I read somewhere that this can last up-to 15 years before you actually go into menopause! :yikes 5 more years to go until the real thing?! :yikes :help

As for dealing with night sweats & hot flashes: :guns

Night sweats: My sleeping "partner" is a big oscillating fan! Best bedroom partner I've ever had!

Hot flashes: Big box fan! When I'm doing my exercises at home, the box fan and a double window fan are my exercise partners. When I'm doing my water aerobics, I just dunk myself! I scared the instructor one day when I did this, she thought I was drowning! She couldn't believe that you could have hot flashes in the pool until she felt the top of my head! (This was in the early spring, off season roof still over the pool, so we couldn't blame it on the sun!) Now if she sees me go "under" she yells, "Watch out, Rhonda's hot flashing again!"

Well Rhonda, you COULD buy an air conditioner. lol lol I don't dare go outside in this heat wave we're having in Alabama. We've got the thermostat set at around 74 degrees in the house PLUS the ceiling fan and I still have to get out from under the sheets a couple or three times a night. lol Actually, some nights are better than others. At one point in my life I HATED sleeping under a ceiling fan ------- now I got "old" and think they are wonderful to have when the little sweat beads pop out at 1:00 in the morning. lol

2big, thanks for the menopause 'refresher course'. The post you mentioned was probably purged at some point. It's the "down side" of having a board this big. We're just glad you are here to "re-post" all that good information.

Janice, I'm too cheap! (Like my $20-$25 a month electric bill!) Had A.C. at my last place and the electric bill was $100 a month or more. Of course I did have a teenage boy who liked to leave doors and windows open along with leaving his stereo AND TV on all the time. Being "single" again is wonderful after 28 years of raising kids!

But Rhonda, you did it wrong. I was adviced to lock the kids in the closet when they turned 12 and not let them out until they were 25. It worked for me ------ had no problems at all raising the kids.

Whew, I'll swap electric bills with you any day. lol By the way, what are the "high" temps in Ohio in mid July?? Just wondered.

Good luck to you and keep that fan oiled!!! lol

I've been suffering from BAD hot flashes at night and a few during the day, despite A/C, box fans AND ceiling fans! We keep the house at 74 during the day, but drop it down to 68 or so at night, just because I get so uncomfortable. UGH. I wake up 4 or 5 times a night, even just with a sheet on. But, no periods, so I'm happy.

Rhonda - we have to "do lunch" sometime. You're so close - maybe 20 miles away.

Janice - temps in Ohio normally run 85 - 100 during July and August. This summer is unusually cool and we've had an average of 75-85 with very few over-90 days. I'll take it! I'm a transplant from New Hampshire, and just can't tolerate that 90-100 degree temps. Thank God for A/C.

I want to know about this HRT cake, too!!

Okay Janice, where was you when I was raising them? I could have used that advise back then! :nod But then again, it wouldn't have worked quite that way on both my kids. :no (They are 10 years apart. I kept saying that I forgot what caused IT! I sure learned after the 2nd one!) My daughter, yes, she didn't start until the day she turned 13 (literally) and didn't straighten up until she turned 19 and was expecting my granddaughter. My son, NO! He started when he was 11 and is still being a pain in the a$$ at 18.

Joan answered your question about the temperature. In August is when we get some really high temps, sometimes up to 100. But I can also remember many a cold & rainy day too (high 50's/low 60's). At this moment it is 61, which is wonderful because I just got home from work so I am pulling it in to get ready to go to bed. I think I am going to skip my arthritis water aerobics class this morning and hop on my bike this afternoon when I get up.

Joan: I didn't think is was that far from here, but you are probably right, I'm a lousy judge of distance. Be glad to get together.

Well, I better hit the sack, I'm having a little problem focusing on my monitor after staring at one all night.

Yeah Joan, was the picture from your vacation?? It looks very much like where we went on our vacation back in late April. We went from Alabama through Missouri, Kansas and on over through the Rocky Mountains to Bryce Canyon and then onto the Grand Canyon. It was absolutely beautiful. Your background scenery looks very familiar. lol I love your picture too. I like to see who people are and picture them when we're "chatting" through posts. There is a big difference in your two pictures. You go, girl!!!!

Rhonda, all I can say to you is ----- Bless your heart!! lol lol I'll be watching how my daughter does with this 10 year between kids thing. She and her husband just adopted Katy who will be two in Sept. and their Emily will be 11 in October. They're doing great so far because the older two kids are like another set of parents. lol lol

I hope the two of you can get together. Take pictures and post them if you do. We love to see pictures of "get-togethers". I'm envious!! lol

                            Janice;

The 10 year thing is a running joke in the family. My daughter, Elizabeth, was born in 1976. My son, William, was born in 1986. (Notice the "Royal" names?! Let me tell you, they were "Royal Pains" too! :yikes ) My granddaughter, Carli, was born in 1996.

My son, and his (now) ex-fiance, came up to me, back in January this year, and said "Sorry Mom, I messed up your ###6 year thing!" Supposedly she was due this coming September and they were going to get married in August. Notice I said "ex-" and "supposedly"? They broke up and she told him that the baby (if there really is one) was not his. Thank You Sweet Jesus! I wasn't crazy about her anyway!

Well, now William has another 20 months to find a better girlfriend to continue the family "6's"! LOL I don't think Elizabeth will continue it, but you never know, she's had one still born and 3 miscarriages.

Beet red faces?! I blamed that on my medications for over a year now.
I dont take that medication I blamed it on. CLICK...

On Montel Williams (I think) there was a woman who went through her change, she also had gastric by-pass. She never knew she was preg. She would eat and get a 'ripple' feeling. She complained and was told it was normal.

She went to the Dr. or hospital one day and that was the day she delivered. They did an ultrasound on a knot and found it was a baby. She was dialated to 4 when she entered.

Her son was 14 or 15. She had a baby girl.

I can't have children although I have all the girl problems. I am looking forward to no more monthlys, gee hope this way of eating better doesn't prolong it.
