Hi everyone! I'm new to this site in hopes of finding relief of fighting my binges whenever I get stressed out. Everytime I encounter something serious in my life, food is my comfort, which is why I'm now on atkins. I lost 37 lbs on atkins 2 yrs ago but re-gained it over holidays. After recuperating from a broken ankle/surgery this summer, I'm back on atkins again and I need help from your site for support, so any comments will be appreciated!! HELP!! I've got to lose 100 lbs!!

Welcome, glad you found.... This is the perfect place to come when you feel the need to eat.....Most of us have done the "emotional" eating ourselves and understand. My secret is to have nothing in the house that isn't legal, hench, when I get an attact I go for the pepperoni or cheese crackers or something like that.

I happen to agree how great this board is. I read here in the A.M. & P.M. for strength. It's not easy with stress and having my husband eating the foods....chocolate candy, chocolate frosting, peanut butter toast, etc right next to me...all day long.
I've hinted that he could drop his extra weight in no time before me, but he's not taking the bait.
I need the people here to gain the strength that I need.Barbara

Kaylajudy, this is a great source for support--next time you get stressed out, instead of grabbing for food, come in here and browse around and you can both give and receive help from others in the same boat!
If you aren't near a computer when you get stressed, talk yourself out of food. Have some water to buy some time to de-stress yourself. I find that, weirdly enough, hot water is very soothing and for some reason it makes me feel like I'm eating (because my body thinks it's just very weak soup??
ensive ).
All you need is a little behavior tweaking to break the connection between stress and food. No problem, you can do that!

These boards are food for our soul and spirit, which go hungry too when they are not nurished. So, keep coming back and partake till your hearts delite. :icondance
I also think of members of these group as new family. ( as my mother always said," you can pick your friends but not your family"). :yikes

"Everytime I encounter something serious in my life, food is my comfort, which is why I'm now on atkins."
It greatly shames me to have to admit that it took me 60 years to discover one simple fact....................ALL GOD'S CHILDREN GOT PROBLEMS!
After losing a substantial amount of weight, being healthier than I was 20 years ago, and feeling better than I did 30 years ago, I still have to pay bills, sometimes argue with my wife, and can get upset with the antics of my grandkids.
So, the choice ain't how to get away from life (stress)..........'cause that really is never a choice. The decision is really whether to change one's live today, tomorrow, or never.
In making the choice you decide upon, think about this...........I can absolutely, positively, 100% guarantee you that the stress is much, much more manageable at a lesser weight than at a higher weight.

kaylajudy,
This problem of eating during stressful times is my problem too.
Just last week I had this problem and I ran to the refrig. I couldn't stop from eating something, so I ate 2 bites of cold pork chops(leftovers). I know I need to control this better and I am really trying to come up with ideas to stop the comfort eating too. Like Lynn suggested, it is legal foods, but I do need to get control, if at all possible.
My plan is to come to this site and read. Or go for a walk. Or turn on some music and dance around. Or drink water. I have been really trying to get a plan before the next crisis happens.
There is so much more to turning our lives around besides losing the weight.
