Re: For those ladies over 50

I like that. Here's one I wrote several years ago. I have it framed with a picture of a little girl wearing a red hat. This was before I even thought of joining the RHS:

When I grow up and reach the 'golden years'
You won't find me in a rocking chair
I won't settle for peace and tranquility
There's something special I want to be...

Most women over 50 no longer have dreams
They spend their days baking and knitting things
I want the next 50 years to be filled with propriety
as a prestigious member of the RED HAT SOCIETY

In my purple dress, I'll display noble disposition
and uplift my hair in a stylish tradition
My elegant red hat will have floppy ribbons and bows
I'll be stunningly beautiful from my head to my toes.

Kinda goofy, but I had fun writing it.

I'm a redhatter! We have a lot of fun. We went to Chattanooga last month and went on the Dixie Belle dinner cruise. We go to a lot of tea rooms also. One day we went antiquing and had loads of fun. The group I'm in just started about six months ago.

We are going to a new resort's bistro/bar as from 1030 to noon it is quiet and uit has a ncie atmosphere, views over the beach and lots of big tables. Link here:

          Odille,
I am so jealous! I am trying desperately to join and having a heck of a time. I contacted (finally) the leader of one group here and she said they only meet for luncheons. Its impossible for me to make it during the lunch time. So, there is supposed to be another group here that nobody seems to know about. I finally called the RHS and talked to them. They said there is another group - but they don't have email and won't give me the phone number. I finally talked to another lady who said she'd give the Queen my phone number. So, now I sit and wait for her to call me. I've already bought a bunch of stuff. I have a purple dress, 2 red hats, a purple hat and other stuff I ordered from a catalogue. I'm ready, just have to get a group to join. lolol I'm determined to join, so that is my mission.

I really want to know how your meeting goes. I can't wait to hear about it.
          Have fun!!!

Odille I am so pleased you have your Chapter set up and ready to go!

Like Becky I have yet to go to my first meeting and as I already own a couple of red hats plus a pair of purple suede jeans and floaty top I am raring to meet some local redhatters.

I have finally heard from my local Queen and would you believe it - there is a meeting next Tuesday afternoon, and it is being held only a five minutes walk away from our house on a day that our shop is not open and I have no urgent jobs booked!!

What an amazing co-incidence that out of only 10 Chapters listed in England that there should be one holding meetings just down the road from me!?!

Do let us know how yours goes, Odille. It will be quite an adventure for you to get the ball rolling!

OH Elizellen!!! How wonderful. You know, my husband was laughing and he said "Ya know, Becky...you've gotten all these gals reared up and excited about the RED HATS and they are all going to join and what if you never get in a club?" I almost fainted. I told him I am going to be a red hat no matter what!! that is my mission. lolol

You guys both have to tell me about your meetings and let me know everything that you did and about the people you meet. I just know you are going to have a blast.

Re: For those ladies over 50

Well, we had our first get together yesterday. Six other ladies came along and we had a great time. We went along at morning tea time to 'saltbar and grill' at a new Pepper's Resort called salt (http://www.peppers.com.au/salt?gclid...od1gkWGw)which is at Kingscliff not too far from home. We nattered away for 2 hours and have decided on what we are doing until december.
next month is an afternoon meeting in tweed heads, hopefully we can all bring along at least one other new person.
November we are going to teh local race meeting on Melbourne Cup Day - really looking forward tot hat one, I've wanted a group to go with for ages!
december we are going to go back to saltbar and have Christmas lunch.
Here is a picture, I'm at the back.

I bought that lovely hat at the op shop for 50 cents - no one wanted it because it was red! The purple flower is a hair decoration I had when I had my hair long. I just clipped it through the weave of the hat.
I'm actually totally dressed by the op shop except for undies! Purple shirt, $2; pink singlet, $1 (both size 16), purple pants, $2.

Re: For those ladies over 50

I lurrve shopping in charity shops myself! When I started to need new clothes I decided not to buy new in 'normal' shos till I hit goal, and except for undies and some leather coats and trousers in my local leather shop's sales have stuck to that so far.

The purple suede jeans and top I intend to wear to the meeting next week were bought in one a few weeks ago!

I take my out-shrunk stuff to a charity shop too but havent yet seen anyone wearing 'my' old too-big stuff yet!

I've also utilized the second hand stores the past two years. My intention is that once I get where I intend to stay, I'll spend money on clothes I really want and love to wear.

I looked everywhere for red-hats and used to see them everywhere....but of course when I went into those same stores to purchase one, there weren't any. I ended up finding one red hat and bought it. I have a purple long dress and 3 purple shirts. I want to buy a purple skirt or pants, but haven't yet. I think I'll wear either my dress or my shirt/jeans to the meeting. I'll see at that time what the others are wearing and decide what I'm going to buy. Some of the photos that my SIL sends to me show some of the women dressing way-out to others who are more conservative. I think it will be fun to experiment and find my own style of purple/red.
