    Re: Had a meltdown

    Thanks, Shawanna.

I do love asparagus, spinach, olive oil and avocado, and do include them. I especially love chopped avocado in my taco salads.

I had also been eating cauliflower, cabbage and broccoli and they are supposed to be bad for thyroid function.... not quite so bad if cooked. So I'm trying to use the other veggies more.

      Re: Had a meltdown

Hi Carole, yes, I think I finally learned my lesson about the Diet Rite!

Water with lemon sounds wonderful. I do get tired of plain water.

I am planting radishes this week, so I won't have to worry about running out! Also all my other little salad veggies.

I have been making deviled eggs, but egg or chicken salad on those flax crackers sounds great, too! I can't believe I didn't think of it!

The main thing is I am leaving off the sweets except for one splenda in my coffee in the morning. I think that will make a difference.

I think, not sure but a CBC usually tests the thyroid.

If that's so, they said nothing about it and I don't remember the numbers.

I am beginning to think that maybe the slow metabolism is because I was anorexic in my teens and twenties. In that case, it may not be thyroid related at all. Just abysmally slow metabolism!

            Hi Sunny,
One clear sign of low thyroid is that your body temperature will be lower than normal. Other symptoms- hair loss, dry skin, weight gain, constipation, depression, sensitivity to cold and brittle nails.
Do you have any of these symptoms?

CBC does not include thyroid test. Thyroid is a separate test. It does not need to be done fasting.

Yes to everything except the hair loss. EXTREMELY dry skin. Temp used to be 97.6 or 97.8... can't remember. It was 97.4 one morning recently when I took my temperature.

I battled depression for decades, but it seemed to clear up when I hit my 50's. One of the most awesome gifts of getting older.... I changed to Sunny then!

Hi Sunny! I just found this thread and don't know how I missed it before.

I am going through exactly what you are so I'm going to follow your progress with interest. I'm starting induction today and am watching the calories too because I'm 63 only 5'3. We can do this and we will break through the numbers that won't move!

So I'm wishing you the best of luck and hoping to hear good news from you very soon.

                    Re: Had a meltdown

                    Hi, Nyna,

So glad to see your post!

It feels good to be on induction again. I had some cravings last night, and I know they were related to the diet colas and the amount of Splenda I had been using. But they passed.

I just feel "cleaner" somehow... due to getting back to eating good, natural foods.

I am one of those who can't go more than 3 hours without eating without feeling like I am starving. So I am doing 5 mini meals and it seems to be exactly what I need.

It is so good to have someone going through this with me. It keeps me from feeling like I am a pioneer wandering through the endless desert alone!

Please do keep me posted on how it's going with you, too! And the VERY best of luck to you!

                      Re: Had a meltdown

I'm glad you made it through yesterday all right! Was that day 1 for you?

I find that if I drink my caffiene-free diet Coke an hour before I go to bed, it doesn't cause cravings, or if it does, I sleep through them.

I eat several small 'meals', (actually they're more like snacks), too because I have to eat every 4 hours. If I don't , I end up with a huge appetite at 4 PM and that's always been my downfall. I can make it through the whole morning and early afternoon but at 4, I lose it if I'm not careful. It was usually peanut butter that did me in. I have had a awful time learning not to eat that stuff but I've now made myself believe that I don't even like it. Here's hoping it lasts!

How is your day going today?

                        Re: Had a meltdown

Yes, yesterday was Day 1 (again) for me.

I also was a late evening eater. If I didn't have enough to eat earlier in the day, I would want to eat nonstop in the evenings.

I would make flax seed cookies, spread them with cream cheese with Splenda or eat pork rinds piled with melted cheese. So the first thing I had to do was make sure I ate a lot more earlier in the day. It makes a BIG difference.

Also I am making my snacks/mini meals more like real meals... just scaled down. Like a protein with some kind of veggie or two each time so it makes an attractive plate. That makes a big difference to me when it look pretty and appealing. (except this morning -- I just had a leftover hamburger patty for breakfast).

I am VERY fortunate that I'm not a peanut butter lover. I can eat it now and then, but am not crazy about it.

Just finished my exercise a little while ago. I feel great! So glad I'm not having the energy crises and fatigue I had on induction the first time around!

Hope you have a great day. Keep me posted!

                          Re: Had a meltdown

This is day 2 on induction for me and so far, so good. I had 3 Jimmy Dean turkey sausage links for breakfast with a stalk of celery. And for lunch, I ate some canned chicken with a small salad. Dinner will be a pork chop with veggies.

I weighed myself this morning and am down 3.5 lbs which surprised me but I'm very happy with it. I never used to weigh myself more than once a week but lately I'm doing it everyday and can't seem to stop. I tell myself that I won't every morning but end up doing it anyway. I just have to know. I think it was because I was gaining a little bit and it was scaring me to think that it might get out of control as it has many times before. I just can't let that happen anymore so I'm obsessing about it I think. It's not that I'm impatient to lose but rather that I might be gaining. I think once I get past this stall, I'll be alright.

I've lost 37 lbs. and keep remembering that when I get to almost 40 lbs. gone, I tend to let go and gain it all back and so that's what has me worried now. But I also know that with the help of all you wonderful people on this board, that I'm not going to do that this time. I'm just taking it one day at a time and hanging on for dear life!

                            Re: Had a meltdown

Blueberrylady, I am so thrilled with your 3.5 pound loss! YAY!!!!!!!!!

I was up 0.4 pound from my last weigh-in. Don't understand it, but I do believe eventually I'll get it right!

I am working on upping my fat-protein ratio based on Dr. Atkin's advice for slow losers in the Modified Fat Fast section of the book.

This morning I had 2 eggs and 2 strips bacon. For lunch I had an egg salad made with 2 boiled eggs and 1 T mayonnaise, along with a little green onion and pepper. I also had 1/2 of a Roma tomato sliced.

I hadn't had coffee yet today, so am getting ready to have a cup of decaffeinated coffee with 1 T cream to help fill in the holes left by lunch.

I don't think you will gain the weight back this time, Blueberrylady, if you stick with the board.

I would have given up a couple of weeks ago, except that the support here is so great. Also, I signed up for two challenges, so must keep up with those. Without the challenges, I'd have given up on the exercise, too.

Who was it who said "We must all hang together, or we will all hang separately?"

Woweee 3.5 lbs.... WTG!! Blueberrylady! I have been chatting with Sunny and she must have taken pity on me (cause my weight isn't coming off) and asked me to join you nice people who are back on induction! LOL!!

I will be delighted to join you gals... as soon as this sinks in.. ha ha! One thing I didn't do before... is give up my caffeine. Yep, I know, I am still bad, still drinking coffee in the mornings. This is my biggest hurdle to starting back on a real honest to goodness effort for induction. i don't drink diet drinks and recently have cut out all alcohol... no wine. sniff! i quit smoking in October, 2008.....so, I have really put my foot down on the coffee! LMAO!

Someone please tell me I can have my coffee...please?

QS, so glad you joined us!!!

About the caffeine.... some people it affects; some it apparently doesn't.

I've given it up, but if offered a cup somewhere else I would probably accept because I don't think it's a staller for me.

However, if you can possibly give it up, just for induction, then try adding it back in after induction, you would know for sure whether you are one of the ones it causes cravings in.

With me, it was kind of tied in with getting rid of everything that might cause cravings. I also was using a lot of Splenda and drinking a lot of Diet Rite Colas (with Splenda), and I think that large amount of Splenda was causing me to feel like I was STARVING. And I didn't necessarily crave sweet or carby things.... just LOTS more food than I should have been eating.

This is my third day on re-induction, and I am sticking to the 3 Splenda per day limit, and my appetite is in control and I feel like I am getting plenty of food.

So it's really up to you. You don't HAVE to.

I so admire you for quitting smoking. I have cut WAY back, but am still hanging onto a handful a day. Am so afraid I'd put on 20 pounds now if I gave them up completely.

So we are all struggling with something.
