Everyone has been telling me that the Atkins Diet is dangerous to teens and so has my doctor. So here's my question, is the Atkins Diet really dangerous to teens? Thanks.

at 14, you are not fully grown. so you need more nutrients than Induction part of Atkins can provide. However, the maintenance part of Atkins should be plenty healthy for everyone.

Well, I am taking the multivitamin pills as requested. Does that help at all? See, I'm not sure if I should leave Induction as I need the loss of weight badly. I don't think maintenance will help much. It would be like any other diet and I won't stick with it long as I probably won't lose as much weight. I hope I'll do ok sticking with Induction.

I agree with pammie, 14 is a little young for this diet, but then again being overweight is a lot more of a health risk than this diet. It's not like Atkins stunts ur growth, so i'd say go for it. :yes

According to Dr. Atkins in his last interview before his death:

A woman called in asking about her overweight 13 year old daughter and he said that the 13 year old should have already been on Atkins. Larry King made a comment like "Wow, a 13 year old!" Dr. Atkins said yes a 13 year old!

Even Dr. Atkins said that young children should not "do Atkins" because of their nutritional needs, but teenagers were fine with Atkins.

All weight loss for teens and children should be under the supervision of a physician. Your doc telling you to lose weight isn't "supervision".

You should be seen by your physician monthly or every couple of months, so your weight can be documented, any blood work can be done, and problems can be addressed.

                    "because of it"

.... because of Atkins? What in particular, if you don't mind me asking?
