  • The getting to know you thread. Please come say Hi!!!

    Hi!

My name is Jamie. I'm 35 and have been happily married for 15 years.

I currently live in Dallas but I'm moving soon to Colorado. I'm an Aquarius, have four kids, and love volunteering, scouting, politics, and ADBB!

I have lost 100 pounds on this way of eating since last August, but still have 100 more pounds to go to get to my goal.

For me, my favorite part of this way of eating is the lack of hunger and mood elevations I feel when I'm sticking to this way of eating faithfully.

Also, it's seeing my doctor's jaw drop when he sees me for tyhe first time in almost a year, takes me officially off of my meds for depression, high blood pressure and acid reflux and has to rethink what he always thought he knew about Atkins.

I've got a dorky and wicked sense of humor, and I'm prone to running through a thread just to give people disco hip bumps! I'm a spaz, and when I say I love each and every one of you, I mean it--albeit in a way that won't cause you to think I want to affix myself to your leg.

    Hi Cleo. :hug Nice thread.

My name is Amber, I currently reside in San Diego, CA. The family is in the process of selling our house and moving to the Colorado Springs area.. specifically Falcon, Colorado. We have a bid on a house out there so hopefully it'll be soon.

I'm currently unemployeed due to the move and my dad having major cancer surgery in February for oral surgery. He just recently finished radiation treatments and is finally able to eat solid foods.

I've lost around 90+lbs.. and have about 130 or so to go. I've been doing Atkins since January 6, 2004.

My favorite thing about Atkins is the veggies.. I love veggies. I also like the fact that you can eat vegetarian while doing this WOE!

My favorite color is purple, my hobbies include reading, writing, sewing(my newst hobby!), cross-stitch, and playing ball with my kids.
Female/32/Still too big, but getting smaller..

    Instant insanity!

Hello, my name is Mary, and I live in Van Nuys, California, but I grew up in Michigan. I moved out to California to live with my then boyfriend/now fiance 3 years ago. We've been engaged for almost 3 years now, because I wanted to lose weight before I got married. As you may have guessed, I am not there yet!!

I started Atkins a month ago and have lost about 13 pounds or so and my pants have gone a size and a half (almost in 22's!), This is the most I've lost at one time in four years... I have about 100 pounds to go until I'll be happy at my weight. I'm really hoping I can lose enough weight to feel good about myself so I can get married next April, I'm hoping to marry in Disneyworld in florida.

I have been overweight since I was a teenager, with ups and downs.., my skinniest as an adult was when I was taking metabolife and got down to about 185, four years ago. Once I went off metabolife, I gained it all back and much much more.

I have a bachelor's in biology, and am trying to get into grad school (I would like to get a ph.d). Will probably be moving back to michigan for school, since it is MUCH cheaper living up there (and I miss my family).. I am studying Japanese and had an awesome time when I was there last October... I hated feeling like a "stereotypical overweight american" though, (even though everyone was nothing but nice).. I've always tried to never let my weight limit me in what I do, but that hasn't always been possible!!

I was considering weight loss surgery, but having a hard time getting authorization. I thought I would give Atkins a shot before paying up to 15,000 for the surgery out of pocket. I am glad I did!

I want to lose weight so I can feel "normal", not worry about finding a chair to fit in, wear shorts in the hot summer, have people not treat me like I'm invisible (!!!), and a million billion other reasons.

I know that I will do it this time, even if I don't lose all my weight in a year, I will lose it!! This board has already helped me immensely!

Sorry if I babbled on, but nobody ever asks me to talk about myself, lol.. Thank you for making this thread!

I think this is a good idea.

Hello, My name is Samuel, I live in Dallas, Texas, have all my life. I am currently pursuing a young lady, and you can read up about it in the chit chat forum. I have a major goal.

I started this WOL last year right after I quit smoking, I continued for 2 months, but after a battle with emotional stress and the scale I gave up and fell hard, I gained all of it back aswell.

As a child I always wanted to be military. I continued my dream through high school by being in ROTC, and I loved it. I couldn't join after school though because of my weight. So this year after failing a few times I decided to give up everything to pursue my dream. Thats right, I gave up a really good Job, a brand new car and alot of friends to pursue my goal.

So now I am giving everything I have to get to my goal. Its my duty I feel to be doing my part right now and I want it so badly!

I am at that point in my life where Its now or nothing. If I fail at this, I failt at life. Theres alot on the line, so I must succeed.

WOOT! Now hang on a minute.

You guys tell me this is a good thread when I'm the lucky cuss who gets to know more about you!

There are no apologies allowed for talking supposedly too much either. This is supposed to be fun, and no judgements are allowed. It's just all of us having some international foods cappacino moments kind of fun and getting to know who you are.

This board is all about us talking, making our thoughts heard and being able to feel comfortable.

We're all friends here! No one's more special than anyone else. This makes us all pretty special.

Origam is inspirational for getting this thread's seed planted. And Mary, you just helped with a little of your sunshine you've been spreading around the board.

And, Samuel, I didn't know you're also in Dallas! No wonder I like this place so much.

Hello my name is Jennifer, and I live in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, but I'm from Canada, west coast Vancouver actually. Born in Ontario, Canada but lived in Vancouver most of my life (since age of 5) before moving here.

I am happily married with two kids. I was never really fat as a child, although when I was a little girl, my older sister was called "string beans" because she was one of those kids with just bones and a small thin layer of fat and then skin and I guess I had a bit more fat than her, so I was called "pork chops" lol by my mom's younger brother and 2 sisters ...so I guess that really set me off on a good positive self confidence about my weight ...>NOT!! :sadblinky

So I struggled with a bad self image of myself through teens...I was around 140 pounds and thought I was always fat... so used to spend my part time hard earned cash on stupid diet centres, etc. I look back at my pictures now and can't believe I thought I was fat....

My weight started going up slowly through university...then by the time I first got married and had my first son (he is 11 1/2), I was up to 240 pounds... then gained more weight over the years from still being in university and emotional eating, etc. then had my second child...

I am determined to get this weight off...it is coming off slowly thank God.
I know this WOE works and am determined to get it together and stick to the plan....

I currently work as a legal assistant here for a tough British lawyer, but it is good because he's very organized and strict, so its affected me personally in becoming more organized, etc.

No offence to North American culture, but here being overweight is not that popular at all. Its hard to even find plus sized clothing stores. You don't notice "overweightness" much at all. The foods on the shelves are mostly base foods, meaning they have prepackaged foods, but most of the time people cook fresh from scratch, which is healthier (depending on what you are cooking obviously :nod ). I know I was trying to find some microwave pizzas for my older son who is on summer holidays...and had a heck of a time, whereas in Canada they would have freezers full of those kinds of "quick eating" products.

Sorry for rambling on and on... that's about all for now! :yikes

:wave Hi my name is Debbie I am married with children. I've been married to a skinny guy for 20+ years and we have 4 sons from 24-18! Yes I stayed pregnant for years! I enjoy guy stuff oh gosh that sounds horrible. I wanted to be a stand up comedian but then I realized I am to normal to be one. I have the typical dysfunctional family. We put the "fun"in dysfunctional. I have recently figured out De Nile is not just a river in Egypt. I have been here for a long time but I am a slow moving tug boat but eventually I will be in Onederland. I do not tolerate sexual harrassment I grade it. I feel all men are equal some just have better equipment. If you want my opinion I will be honest so if you do not want the truth don't ask. I live in Humble, Texas right by Bush airport I sleep in the back room if you are a serial killer. I have three pets a Chihuahua Spike a mouse Basket Case and a ferret Ratdawg. I like the animals a lot more than I like most people. My dream is to be under 200#s own 40 acres with woods and a pond so I can fish. My favorite hobby is DH but he screams and the neighbors call the police. Oh and in November I will be a Grandma!

My name is Amber. I was recently married in April to my boyfriend of 8 years. I currently live in Dallas, but I'm moving to Arlington next month, my husband and I just bought our first house. :icondance

I'm 24 years old and finished my first year teaching resource. I hated it and this year I'm teaching autism, which I LOVE! I have 3 wonderful cats. I love animals in general.

I was a thin child, but had a lot of family issues. When I turned 14 I became anorexic and started cutting myself. Basically, I've been beating the crap out of myself since then because I don't know how to handle my emotions. I went from starving myself to binging and back. It was pure ****. I gained 100 lbs. my first year of college and I've been fat ever since. I've been very desperate to be thin. When I was thin I thought I was fat.

I started Atkins back in Jan 2004. Stayed on the wagon until Oct. when I stalled. I had some family issues going on and stayed on the wagon, but wasn't losing. Around my wedding I was very stressed, hated my job, and not only fell off the wagon, but was lost in the dust. I gained 20 lbs. in six weeks. I've finished day 12 of reinduction, official weigh-in is Wed.

I love Atkins because I feel I have control over myself and my eating. I tend to feel better about myself. The blood sugar is stable (I'm hypoglycemic) and the depression is better (though it's been bad lately in general). My goal is to weigh 150 lbs. I hope to make it there. I started Atkins weighing 250.

I love swimming, cats, puzzles, books, movies, music, and just about anything fun.
                    Name: Amber
                    Gender: Female
                    Mini Goal: 275

Fell off the wagon in May of 2005 after losing 65 lbs. I'm back on the wagon 01/22/07.

My name is Amy and I live in a microscopic town in southwest lower Michigan. DH and I own 40 wooded acres with a little stream and lots of wildlife. We are renovating a 100-year-old farmhouse. I have two children, ages 6 and 7 (yes, I believed people who told me I couldn't get pregnant while nursing!), and I'm a quilter with a secret dream of being a published author someday.

I have been heavy all my life, although never quite as heavy as I am now. I get a bit angry sometimes when I look back at pictures of myself when I was younger -- I wish I would have realized how good I looked in a size 16 back then instead of hating myself for not being in a size 8. But life is all about learning, right?

I first tried Atkins two years ago and did quite well at first. But I fell off the wagon and had to try again . . . and again . . . and again. This is my third time, and I have to admit that I am having problems getting through more than a day or two of Induction before slipping again. I believe that this is the best WOE in the world, I'm just having some motivation issues. I just keep starting fresh every morning and one of these days it's all going to click into place for me.

My 40th birthday is looming, and I am becoming a little frightened about my health. You'd think that would be all the motivation I need!

Hi, I'm Marion...I'm a carbaholic....Hehe just kidding! No, I really am a carbaholic! Anyway..I'm 30, married, mother of one, and TTC more. I was a size 12-16 in high school and early adulthood, and I tortured myself because I wasn't a 2-4. I never had many boyfriends...and looking back that was probably a good thing seeing as how dependant I was on someone else making me happy, but I always blamed it on being "fat". Oddly enough, its being fat that has taught me something about happiness. Having PCOS means dealing with depression, and my way of fighting it was to realize for me it equalled feeling sorry for myself. Once I admitted that, I felt alot better, and have been able to conquer it when it wields its ugly head. (It also helped to stop eating the 2 pound bags of Peanut M&M's with my other 2 bags of various candy a day!)
I've lost as much as 71 pounds on this WOE last year, but was unable to keep it up when I got seriously sick this last winter with a mutating viral infection. As a result of the 6+ differant antibiotics I took, I now have Candida too. Gotta love the medical profession! :raving So all said and done, I gained back 25 pounds, can't lose it now to save the world, and after 6 glorious months of this WOL last year, now I can't stay on the diet for more than 2 weeks at a time without falling face first into carb sh*ttsy stuff.

Thanks for this post! Its nice to "meet" everyone!

I'm Melissa. I am 30 with a new husband and a 5yr old step son. I live in Georgia and work part time as an office manager.

I started gaining weight around the 5th grade and now weigh more than I ever have. I was on Atkins 2yrs ago and was doing well until I tore all the ligaments in my ankle and ended up on crutches for a while and gave up.

It is hard for me to cook for my family and still stay on program but I am going to do it this time!! I want to get pregnant and don't want to start out at 300+.

My hobbies are scrapbooking, knitting, and movies. I love the water and wish I looked good in a swimsuit!

I need all the help I can get!

Hi, my name is Ida. I'm 51 and will be celebrating my 2nd Wedding Anniversay in July, to the man of my dreams.

I have lived in Calgary, Alberta (home of the famous Calgary Stampede held every July), for the last 25 years. I hail from Montreal! I am a real Leo, and have a wonderful 22 year old daughter who just last week graduated from University of VIctoria with a Bachelor of Arts, with Honours & Distinction in Psychology. Her first degree, with another 2 to go. (She wants to keep me working until I'm 90!!!!) I have also inherited 4 step-children to add spice to my life!

By profession, I am a financial planner, and a part time travel/cruise consultant. I love to travel, hence the part-time job.

I have lost 53 lbs. since starting on this WOE in the end of January this year, and have another 58 to go.

My favourite thing about Atkins, is that now I have control of what food goes into my mouth, and I am never hungry, nor have cravings. I am also happy that I found this ADBB, and am associating with people who are in the same boat I'm in, and can associate with my challenges.

That's about it for now!!! :wave
