Anything artificial is, according to Atkins, not what mankind was meant to eat over our milennia years of living on the planet.

Granted, he still allows 3 servings per day.

I agree with Goldfinger, that the article is--for the most part-- hype, but it should serve still as a reminder that artificial sweeteners, chemicals, colorings flavorings are not healthy in the long run, as we cannot be sure what those long-term consequences are going to be for consuming them over long periods of time.

    Excellent discussion, everyone!!!

I am still reminded of the main culprit in my life which causes headaches, mood swings, depression and weight gain - SUGAR. Overuse of anything is unhealthy.

Yes, sugar is what got me here! I'm just chosing to cut Splenda out of my diet, too, because I was experiencing some of the listed side effects. My body is in a very poor state of health because of the choices I've made in the past, and so I'm cautious about the choices I'm making now so that ten years from now, I'm not still doing damage control. It has been a good discussion...thanks for not lynching me! LOL :hug

I agree with everyone's points. My point is that it's not harmful...not that it's good for you. Anyone on Induction should stay away but it's probably fine for people on Maintenance.
Remember that a packet of splenda on contains a very very tiny amount of actual Splenda in it...like one grain's worth.
That's how sweet it is. The rest of the stuff in there is just filler...which is more detrimental than the splenda IMHO.

. but haven't you noticed that Atkins is a WOE that focusses on eating as much natural and wholesome foods as possible?
I agree, but theres people all over this board that want to knock on both sides of the door.

" I GOTTA HAVE SOMETHING SWEET OR I WILL DIE" , but then you turn around and they are knocking someone for not following a clean induction.

ITs funny, I was think about splenda bing a problem soon....SO I do what the good dr. says, limit it to 3 servings a day. If any at all.
