  • Theme Park Survival Kit. Please help!

Saturday morning I leave for a two week vacation at S.Cal theme parks. Three days driving in the motorhome to get them 7 days of fun, 4 days driving home. DH, DD, SIL, and three grandkids. It will be a blast!

I plan to cook and eat in the motorhome most meals but I will have to eat some in the theme parks as well. I'm on extended induction and I plan to stay cheat free.

This is my plan so far:

Stock motorhome fridge with bag-o-salads, eggs, cheese, cream, mayo, butter, low-carb dressings, low-carb smokies, and ham.

    At parks:

Carry waterbottle and buy additional bottles during the day

Hamburger joints: order grilled chicken salad and watch out for the dressings

Hotdog joints: order two hotdogs and toss the buns

Ice cream stands: guzzle water and repeat three times "Icecream is for kids" then walk away.

Any and all advice would be a big help

Well, tuna or canned whatever vegetables might save fridge space (bring a can opener if you do-- I made that mistake)

I was watching Food Channel that some places sell huge turkey drumsticks. I don't think finding things will be tough at all. Now, spending the amount that they want on them might be another story....

Also, I think your biggest temptation will be walking away, not the lack of finding.

You might want to pack a small water bottle with SF syrups (Then you don't have a glass bottle )and buy a sno-cone minus the syrups. I have done that and they look at me weird but don't care. I usually can get a discount on it or just buy shaved once. I add my own chocolate SF liquid and cream if I am near a fridge and I am set while they have ice creams. Even stopping at 7-11 for shaved ice is cool when you can add some syrup and have your own kind of slushy.

Enjoy and I will certainly come back with more if it hits

Sounds like you have a good plan in mind. Disney World sells those turkey drumsticks which is handy when every other snack cart has ice-cream! Maybe the parks you are visiting will too. I always carried snacks into WDW - ones that would fit into a fanny pack. I'm trying to think of something you could freeze, pop into your pack, and then munch on once it thaws....... hmmmm.

In adventureland, across from the Indiana Jones ride, there is a place that sells skewers of meat, with very little sauce on them. I forget the name of the place! Disneyland has only one good sit down restaurant - the "Blue Bayou" that's by the Pirates of the caribbean ride, it's a good idea to have reservations (btw that is where my fiance proposed to me.. everyone say "aww" lol) ... California Adventure has a few more sit down restaurants and more meat options - but they are all a little pricey. I have a hard time eating well on atkins while at disneyland, ill be honest with you. You do sound well prepared though!

Yes, Disneyland has the turkey drumsticks...lemme tell you...they are huge! I had to share it with my husband and 2 of my kids. Just watch out for the little bony/cartilage (sp?) parts. blech.

There are salads at every food stop. I bought a pickle at one of the stands and pretty much munched on it all day long...They sell string cheese and other "low carb friendly" items all around so that's a good thing!

              Have fun!

I used the lockers at Dland to hold munchies, helped cut costs and stay on track. Also, many of the stands sell veggies with dips. We ate those alot. I had salads whenever possible.

Good luck, have fun and try to focus on the memories you are making rather than your food. I know it is tough, but trust me, I remember all the fun stuff and can't really tell you what I did or did not eat all day.
