  • I noticed something today

As many of you know it took me forever to get away from 300 pounds. I kept bouncing back above it time and time again. Well today I was updating my spreadsheet of my daily weighs, and I decided to see when the last time I was over 300 pounds. It was April 3rd. I never realized that I had put it behind for good. Now 290 is acting like 300 did and I keep bouncing lower then back up over it. But I know that soon enough, I'll never see 290 again either.

So if I get stuck at each decade, that's ok. My body is taking it's time saying goodbye to each one. Because I never plan to return to them after I say goodbye for the final time.

    Regards,
    Jim

Have you noticed any differences in how you eat/workout on the days before you go up?
Hey I just noticed we're the same height and original goal weight. ensive

Just keep up the running and you should be fine.

I think we all go through that with each 10-20 pounds we lose. I know my body also does the up/down dance each time I make it to another milemarker. Congratulations on your discipline to keep going regardless of the small setbacks that happen.

I feel ya Jim. I think thats the body's way of coping with things...hit a marker. Stop, take notes, go down again, and repeat.

The thing I look forward to the most is 4 months from now. I will look back at where I was today, and think, that wasn't so bad.

Jim, I can relate to what you're saying, infact I am going through the same thing myself right now! A little disappointing, but I know if I stick with it, the lbs will start dropping again!

Yeah, I do see the difference. On days I run longer distances my weight usually bounces for two days. It is probably due to the muscles superhydrating to repair themselves. Also sometimes on days where my carb intake was a bit higher than usual, my weight drops a bit the next day. Which can be very deceiving and it takes a lot of discipline to not think that I should eat even more and drop (because when I do that the weight goes up as well). So I think the optimal carb level for loss is a fine line and it changes depending upon your activity.

As far as height and weight. I'm not really sure that I'll be able to make 210. My last body analysis is showing 212 pounds of lean tissue. But I think that as the weight continues to drop, there will be some muscle atrophy (hopefully minimal) as well as some bone density loss. Both simply because I'm hauling around less weight.

Looks like a lot of us are in the same boat here. I can totally relate. I've been in the 220's forever it seems and am playing around between 223 and 227.

I have been a slow loser and the way I look at it is this. The longer it takes me to get this weight off, the more time I have to accept Atkins as a way of life and form the habit of eating this way. The longer it takes, the more ingrained it becomes as a part of my life. So, slow losing isn't always a bad thing.

When I first started just over a year ago, I never embraced the WOL aspect of this plan. I always thought that I'd lose the weight and then just maintain. But the longer I do it the more parts of it become habit. Even when I fall off the wagon, I never stray far. My portions are ridiculously small. And even my cheats are small. I might finish my 2 year old's bowl of pasta, which wasn't much to begin with. So even though I fought it early on, I know that at some level my eating habits are permanently changed, for the better.

Thats one of the greatest things about the way of eating. It teaches you something. Knowledge is power I say. Thats why I feel its above all other plans for the simple fact that you learn alot .

Jim I am with you on the LBM. I got put at 207lbs of lbm, and remember we can maintain and even increase muscle mass even while shedding the lbs, it is possible.

I think me and you are close in regards to stats, although you got 2 inchs above me.

You probably know that but that's not a small cheat. It's not necessarily the amount but the GI which affects glucose response.
Anyways you probably have those cheats out of your system now.
It's tempting to so, "oh what's the harm" but one day of too many carbs can halt weight loss for a week.

BTW have you noticed the pee thing? Whenever I drop weight I seem to pee a lot. Whenever I get up in the middle of the night to answer the call I wonder if I'm losing weight. I think of it as the "call of the Whoosh Fairy"

I also wonder if high carbs->weight loss is because of the sorta laxative effect of eating higher carbs. Sometimes a higher carb meal makes me go more...might be from the extra fiber involved.
