Did you ask her what her best time is? Just wondering.

Good point, maybe you should ask her what her quickest time was and what her time was when she first started out?

You know, I don't know if I can even RUN a mile. Sometimes, I 'slosh/shuffle' my feet as if I'm running but that's about it.

Congratulations on giving your lungs a good workout. Don't despair - your persistence will pay off!!!

Um, hello, running a mile at any speed is better than a lot of people can manage. Good for you, stick with it and you're right, you may want to share your exciting news with people who care and have compassion for those trying to better their lives (and maybe she was jealous?!)

                Re: the supportive coworker, NOT!

I agree with everyone, running a mile at any speed is great. If your coworker makes a similar comment in the future, ask her if her intention is to be supportive or critical, and if it is to be critical ask her what she gets out of that and does it make her feel good. When people have to consciencously accept responsibility for their comments, they might think twice about what they say.

Your mile was a LOT faster than one of mine would be!!! Congrats on doing it, and don't listen to the naysayers. They're always going to be lurking...
