Re: I have seen the face of evil...

Wayless, I don't think that it is dumb at all. I can totally relate. Sometimes I just tell people that I have the stomach flu and I don't think I can eat it without getting sick or I will take it to avoid confrontation and explanation and like you said, throw it away when no ones looking. Although, I have to say, that if you know these people well and they may get suspicious about you turning down another cake, you can bet they will figure out real soon that you are on some kind of "diet". We women are nosy by nature, LOL, and one of them will keep scrutinizing til she figures it out! LOL! Just be a good Queen of De-nile when they start quizzing you! Good luck til then!

Re: I have seen the face of evil...

I know exactly how you feel!! I have such a hard time talking about my weight with anyone, even the people I've known for a long time (with the exception of my mother, sister, and fiance). Like you said, I don't want people watching to see what I eat to see if I'm still atkinsing or not! Sometimes it would drive me crazy, my soon to be mother in law would always make a point to tell EVERYONE "jim and mary are doing atkins!".. she was proud, but it was annoying.. we'd go out to dinner with everyone and she'd be like "oh they're doing atkins!" or someone would offer me food and she'd shout across the room "they can't have that!" instead of letting me politely decline.. ARRRRGHHH!!

Anyway, just wanted to let you know, I know how you feel!! It sounds like you are doing great though and very self motivated, great job!!!

Re: I have seen the face of evil...

What everyone else said...if I announce that I'm doing Atkins (or any diet) then it just opens a can of worms where everyone feels entitled to offer an opinion or police you or whatever. I can understand about keeping quiet. It's funny but the skinny girls here get away with not eating cake or just eating the toppings off the pizza. The larger ones get bugged if they do the same thing. Tell them your New Year's resolution is to cut down on sugar. You have a cavity and sugar hurts your tooth? You ate too many cookies at Christmas and you can't face anymore sweets? It's too bad you can't say no and leave it at that, but if you have to lie, well that's just self preservation. Let us know how it turns out. (Well, we know you won't eat the cake but let us know how you got out of it).

Hmmmmmmmm,,,I saw that same face (of evil) on a cream donut this morning.

I thought we were done with all these office goodies now that the holidays are over.

Re: I have seen the face of evil...

Mmmm...donuts. Why do we do this to ourselves at work? LOL

OK...I survived the party. It just ended. There were about 20 people there. They had sandwiches, chips, salsa and potato salad for lunch, along with cookies and a "low-fat" angel food cake with fruit topping and whipped cream.

I just piled my plate with meat and a couple of slices of cheese. I noticed a couple of people looking at me because I wasn't using a bun. One co-worker asked, "So you don't like bread?" I told him I didn't like eating lunchmeat sandwiches on hamburger buns (which happened to be an absolute truth...though that's not why I passed on the bun).

Then came dessert. They just started filling plates and passing them around. After about 10 minutes, I noticed the whole room looking at me (I'm not exaggerating...100% truth). The birthday girl (my friend) yells, "You want dessert?" Everyones looking at me while they plow into their cake. "No thanks."

"You don't want any of this? It's supposed to be low fat!?"

"No, I'm full right now, I'll get some later." The room gives a collective "Oh."

I was not able to make it out of the room without being offered cake once again, but this time by the person who made it. I just said, "I'll get some later." And she was fine with that.

Now, having told this story, I will concede that I am CERTAIN that I am hyper-sensitive right now, so I'm sure that some of the looks that I was getting were just, "Oh, there's Tracey! Hi Tracey!" looks...LOL But I also know that a couple of people are starting to get suspicious.

Regardless, it's not a big deal...just funny how life is. Honestly, it wasn't that bad passing up the cake. I haven't had any dessert since like December 31st or something like that, so it feels like forever. I still want sweets every now and then, but not like before.

Anyway, thanks for all the encouragement. I'm glad folks know where I'm coming from with trying to keep this under wraps for a while. Eventually, everyone will know that I've obviously changed SOMETHING. For now, I'll amuse myself and let them keep guessing.
