Re: had to undergo a gastric bypass to reduce his body fat
My best friend is going through all the classes for gastric bypass surgery. She is 5'7'', 394 lbs.. I practically beg her every night to give Dr. Atkin's approach a try. Unfortunately, my plees fall on deaf ears. She sees what it's doing for me, but she has been brain washed by her doctors and nutritionists that gastric bypass is the only way to go for her. They also teach the food pyramid w/ grains as top priority as gospel. She had 3 boys, all through C-section, so she thinks that 'normal' diets won't work for her. She has a lot of fat right where she was cut. Anyway, we went to a buffet the other night and she was looking at my plate in shock. I had a bunless burger w/ mayo and a tomatoe slice, some unbreaded chicken, and a slice of roast beef along with a salad w/ ham, turkey, eggs, black olives, cheese, bacon and ranch dressing on it. "You can eat all that?" Yes!! That's the wonderfullness of this way of eatting, I told her. Even if I do go a bit over 20g of carbs, I feel full, I don't get voraciously hungry and I'm seeing my body shrink almost daily. I looked at her plate.. everything was breaded.. No veggies.. unless you count corn fritters. I told her that the only thing I could eat that was on her plate was the cheese sauce she had on her mashed taters. She gets frustrated and tells me that she doesn't know what's good and what's not. Everything with her is another excuse. I told her that if she would have started Atkins 6 months ago when she started her classes on the gastric bypass, she probably would have been through 75% of her weight loss goal. She just turns her nose up. "I CAN'T GIVE UP BREAD!" No, I think to myself, you WON'T give up bread..
I realize that I wasn't addicted to the bread, I was addicted to the 'full' feeling it gave me.
