  • Personal Mantras

I've noticed a few people have their mantra's in their signature and I really like them!! Especially LC_Dave's, I used to use that one too and then forgot about it for a while (I recycle my mantras lol).

I have a few for myself that help get me through the tough times, and wondering if anyone else out there has any they use to fight temptations or negative feelings?

Here are a few of my "mantra's" or things I repeat over and over until I feel stronger...

When I want to eat something, like french fries for example.. I tell myself "in a few minutes they will be gone anyway and they'll be nothing but a memory.. Just pretend you already ate them.."

When someone tells me I "Can't have that" I tell them "yeah.. as a matter of a fact I CAN have that - I choose not to though!"

Another one for temptation.. "what will feel better, eating that or getting on the scale tomorrow and seeing [Insert tomorrow's goal weight here] on the scale?"

For exercise when I'm really tired.. "Just get your shoes on and do 15 minutes.. I can do fifteen minutes!!" (I always end up doing more, it's just getting going that is the hard part!!)

Or I tell myself "The hardest part of exercising is putting your shoes on!" (ie.. the decision to exercise is harder then the act itself)

Anyway I would love to hear any mantras or "self talks" that people tell themselves to get motivated

"No, because then I have to go on ADBB and tell everyone what I did!"

"If she can do it, I can do it."

    "I'm better than that!"

"If I still want it tomorrow, I'll have it then." (because tomorrow never comes. It's ALWAYS 'today'." lol

"Oh, come on, you can do 30 minutes faster than that."

"Nope, the scale will yell obscenities at me!" lol

"One day at a time, just one day at a time."

"You do NOT want THAT yucky stuff!"

I tend to talk to myself a lot lately.

sometimes I don't want to go to the gym, but I always say that "I sometimes dread it, I NEVER regret it."

It's true, I never regret exercising.

Hey mere!! I haven't seen you around a lot. Nice to see you again!!

I have two big mantras that cover life in general and also help me with this WOE. The first one I borrowed from John Taylor of Duran Duran. He adopted it when he gave up drugs and started living his life differently. It's "Trust the Process". That works in many situations, but especially Atkins. I need to trust that this process is working...that I'm getting smaller, losing weight, getting healthier, and disposing of old food habits.

The other one is "Whatever is happening is supposed to be happening". That one works when things seem out of control.

I've had a pretty hard week, and many times I've wanted whatever I shouldn't have. I've been telling myself "I want to return to size 18 MORE than I want XXX."

I like that one.. just trust the process and it will work, you are right!!

Oh I forgot another one i use when I want to overeat.. I think "The first bite tastes as good as the last bite.. what does it matter how many bites I have in between?"

            Anyone else?
