Re: Hello...I think I belong with this group...

    Mary,

I tried Atkins a while back and did ok, but I did it "my" way instead of by the book and I ended up gaining back the 30 I had lost and then some. I am in day 2 right now. I think I am going to try your tip of not eating after 7, but in my case it will have to be 8 because of work and all. I am trying really hard and you give me hope that I can do it. I wanted to be a stunning bride on my wedding day, but just didn't have the will power then. However, I want to get healthy now before we start a family cause I want to have healthy babies and be here for them. I hope you have a blast at the wedding.

End of April's a great time to get married isn't it

How goes the atkinsing? Are you in induction right now or have you been on atkins for a while? I know you'll do great!

Every time I deviate from the book and think "oh it will be okay if I do this or that, I'm sure it doesn't matter THAT much", I end up regretting it, and yet it still happens occasionally so I know how you feel! I think the not eating after 7 thing really helped me, because I have such a strong tendency to eat out of boredom and not for hunger. When I told myself I could eat when I was hungry all day long, but "kitchen's closed" at 7, .. for some reason it really helped me! But it was much easier to do back when I wasn't working full time. I hope it helps you the way it helped me though, goodluck!!

My wedding has helped give me a focal point for my weight loss, but of couse I wanted to lose weight for a million other reasons as well, my health being a big part of it. I was 24/25 and my feet hurt all the time and I had no energy. I was too young to feel that old! Right before I started, my grandmother had just past away and it really made me start to think about how short life is, and how I didn't want to waste my life being this unhealthy.

Getting healthy to start a family is a wonderful reason and a wonderful motivation to get healthy!! Just remember, this really is something you CAN do!!! Give yourself plenty of "mini-goals" to look forward to along the way and you'll be surprised at how quickly the time flies

Did you reward yourself at mini-goals? What kind of mini-goals did you have?

Welcome Deborah. My anniversary is the 17th of April. Great time to be married. It'll be 13 years for me. You both can do this. Read your book, drink your water, get your exercise and eat per your level (induction or OWL) as you are hungry. sounds simple, it isn't always if you're an emotional or boredom eater, but this WOE (way of eating) or WOL (way of life) gives you such a great start to better health.

Deborah, wanted to tell you that my nickname from 7th grade on was H2o's (my maiden name was Waters)...so I love your Atkinsnickname!

            H20

My mini-goals varied each time. I started at 262, and remember thinking how happy I would be to be under 250. I remember going on a cruise to alaska and was thinking about doing a helicopter tour to the top of a glacier, but it said if you weighed more then 250 you had to pay for two seats so I was too embarrased to do it. So my first goal was to be under 250 just because it was so symbolic, of the fine line between being able to do something I wanted to do and not being able to do it!

My reward has always been the weight loss itself, but occasionally I would treat myself to a good book or a new pair of jeans or something.

After getting under 250, my next goal was to fit into a pair of size 22 jeans that had been sitting in the closet for 3 years that still had their tags on them. I bought them right as I got too big to wear size 22's, but kept them because I kept thinking "someday i'll fit into these!"

I had a few other small ones along the way, mostly related to wearing a size down. Each time I would fit into the next size down, I would immediately buy ANOTHER size down so I was always working to fit into something.

Eventually my big goal was to be under 200, or enter "one-derland" as some of us call it. Just getting rid of the "2" at the beginning of our weight is such a good feeling!!

After that I wanted to get to 180, which was the lowest I've ever weighed since high school and meant so much for me to get there. Well I got there, but I'm not there anymore lol. I will be again soon though!!! But I did feel really good when I got there, and can't wait to be there again!!!!

So more then "rewards", I just tried to keep finding things to keep me motivated that always seemed within reach. I couldn't have just said "okay, I want to lose 100 pounds, here I go!", that would have drove me crazy! I just said things like "okay I want to lose 10 pounds so I can be under 250, 10 pounds isn't so bad"... then I'd say "if I can lose 10 pounds once, I can lose it again... if I can lose 20 , I can lose 40", etc.

Now I just need to recapture that motivation when i get back from my honeymoon, but I'm confident I will! Let me know if you have any other questions or feel free to PM (Private message) me anytime!

I am a total water fiend so I thought the name would be good. It is nice to be here. I hope I can make this work for me.

                Mary,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write back to me. I have no idea how to set goals for this because I am still a little leary of it really working. I see the results other people have, but I am still afraid. I am sticking with it though.
