  • Frustrated and Checking in

Hi everyone. I hope you're all still losing weight in this heatwave. You'd think that we'd be able to literally sweat off the pounds, but that's sure not happening here!

I've been at a plateau for well over a month now. I've reviewed everything I'm eating (according to the book) and I haven't gotten lazy enough to stop exercising. In fact, I turn on the air conditioner and I move even MORE now. Everything seems to be ok everywhere else as well, yet I'm still stalled. I still need to lose 90 pounds yet so I seriously doubt my body is telling me it's happy where it is! I've also measured myself and I am not losing inches either! I am so hoping that this isn't going to last much longer. I do NOT want to be discouraged yet again!

Anyway, just checking in. Hope you're all doing better than I am.

    Re: Frustrated and Checking in

I have hit some long stalls before and its very frustrating. I hit one stall around 255, but I remember that I was at that weight for a long time when I was last around that weight, so perhaps my body was just remembering that and didnt' want to move on quite yet.

A few things you can do:
    1. Post your menu for review. Others might see something you might be missing or make suggestions to improve what you are eating
    2. Look for common stallers and try cutting them out. Stuff that didn't stall you before might now be stalling you
    3. Keep measuring and taking pictures, you may be losing inches
    4. Be patient and try not to cheat, no matter how tempting it is.
    5. Try going up or down in OWL a step.

    Hang in there!
    Start date: 2/22/04 347/222/135 ~ 5'2"
    STAC Restart: 1/05/09
    306/229/135 ~ 5'2" 77 lbs down!

    Goal #1: 247 - 2nd 10% (59lbs, 247, also 100 lbs total loss) - Met 1/4/10!!!
    Goal #2: 241 - Halfway to goal! (106 lbs lost) - Met 2/21/10!!!

    Goal #3: 222 - 3rd 10% - Lowest Atkins weight
    Goal #4: 210 - Still on track!
    Goal #5: 200/199 - 4th 10% - One-derland! End year goal!
Female/Hypothyroidism/Arthritis/Fibromyalgia - If I can lose weight on this, so can you!

      Hey Kate,

The last time I had a stall I went completely AWOL (thank goodness I didn't stop exercising so I only gained like, 10 pounds in a few months). Anyway, you could always mix up your exercise and add/reduce weights to your regular workouts, or try a different workout. I go back to induction when I hit a stall, sometimes it jump starts the loss again... Oh, and that thing Bizzlekitty said about your body getting stuck at a weight that it was for a long period of time happened to me too so maybe look back on whether you weighed your current amount for a while on your way up.

Good Luck - Keep at it and you'll lose it!

The Whooshie Fairy just left Star and I heard that she's on her way to see you very soon, but you didn't hear this from me

Good Luck girl!!! You can and will move. Its your stubborn fat cells holding on for dear life, but one day soon when they see that you're not giving them the junk, they will get very weak and let go, then you'll have that Whoosh. They think you're playing Kat, show them what you're working with!!!

            Re: Frustrated and Checking in

Reviewed my foods, made adjustments, continued exercise, done everything the book suggests for plateaus, still nothing coming off (pounds OR inches). I have several exercise DVDs that I'm using along with handweights, ankle weights, stationary bike, ABLounge, stability ball and various straps and cords. I'm climbing stairs every chance I get for stair climb challenge here at ADBB. With 90 pounds left to lose, it's very frustrating! I will never believe that my body is happy weighing 255 pounds! I can't remember if I was stuck at 255 for awhile while I was gaining. I've restarted induction this week in the hopes that it will kickstart me into losing again. It's been very hot and humid here and I'm wondering if maybe that has anything to do with it? I am drinking my water like crazy to stay hydrated.

When I look in the mirror, I see all this fat and I wonder if I'm ever going to lose this weight. I know I do have on the fat goggles because my hubby tells me that I do look like I've lost the weight I have and though I see this huge backside, he can't stop touching it. lol I'm so glad he doesn't go for the skinny girls. lol

I will get through this somehow. I can't give up. I've come too far.

            Patiently waiting for whooshie!

I'm no help since I've been stalled since January, but just keep at it. Our bodies will eventually reward us for all of this hard work and patience.

Have you tried posting your menu in the "Review My Menu" section of the board. Maybe one of the veterans can find something that could be stalling you?

                    Hi Kate

I had like a 4-5 week plateau and did everything I knew to break it. Nothing worked until I just started to lose weight again. It threw off my plans because I was hoping to lose about 10 pounds during that time period, but I'm just happy that the scale started going down again. It will for you too! Hoping for a whooshie to visit you!

                      Re: Frustrated and Checking in

Sometimes I think that our weight loss just defies logic. Yes, if we follow the plan we lose weight. If we read DANDR we lose weight. If we don't eat processed foods we lose weight. If we exercise and drink our water we lose weight. So why don't we lose weight when we think we should. It comes down to this sometimes ... your body isn't ready to give up the pounds. But have faith. Hang in there, continue to follow the plan and one day you will wake up and weigh less. When I get in these "funks" and I have had many, I step away from the scale and just do what I'm supposed to. After all, I'm committed to the long run and I'm not going to let a month or two out of a lifetime throw me. I stay focused and know that the numbers will catch up with the progress that my mind is making!

I don't know if you have thought about this, but it could be the heat if you are in a really hot area of the country like I am right now. Our bodies tend to absorbe EVERTHING and hold onto it in the summer time. Everthing seems to swell and water just hangs on. Try to cut down in sodium too, that may do the trick to get you back and running. I didn't learn this stuff from keeping up on my own diet, health and nutrition class in college was good for something I guess. lol Just to remind you,,,,,,, LOOK AT THE WEIGHT YOU HAVE LOST!!! YOU ARE AWESOME! I plan on one day being able to a weight loss like yours!! So stand on your head and turn that frown upside down! lol
