There's a "Journal Chats" forum, or a "Journal Stats" forum. The first is for socializing with all of us, the second one is just for you to record what you're doing and progress and everything.

Re: Calling all 100lb+ losers: Seeking truth about body changes

I've decided on two options. The first would be to only lose weight until I start to see sagging skin, and then stop. Personally, I'd rather be husky than fat or thin with lots of loose skin. Besides, husky is cute on some guys!

But then I thought that was stupid. So I finally settled with the second option. A plastic surgery fund! I am planning on surgery on day I hit my goal. I'm way too impatient to take the wait and see approach. I've never been a patient man. I also that that time will improve the look of loose skin, but only to a certain extent. I would suck to wait a year and find out I was unhappy with the results, when I could have just had the surgery a year before.

I am doing everything possible to minimize what surgeries I will need. I work on my arms and legs all day long, so I hope they go back on their own. My stomach and my man-boobs are too far gone and will need to be sliced off.

It's a gift to myself. I mean, if I can go to 407 pounds to 220 I will definitely feel like I've earned it. I have a way to go before getting there anyways, but the plastic surgery fund is there waiting for when I do.

Although I am tempted at times to buy a new car instead!

Dorr, you mean WHEN you go down to 220 pounds.

I think everyone needs to deal with this issue in whatever way works best for them. For me, it's encouraging to know that if I can continue to decrease my percentage of body fat, the sagging skin will lessen. However... I'd frankly be quite content with around 25% body fat. I don't feel the need to be this super lean workout machine. I just want to be healthy, look okay, and stop obessing over my weight. So, I frankly might be with you on that surgery... we'll see how it goes. Regardless, good luck to you!

I already started a plastic surgery fund. For me it will do 2 things. Keep my eyes on the prize. Then when I get it, all the money and the pain that goes along with it will prevent me to go back the bad way of living.

Re: Calling all 100lb+ losers: Seeking truth about body changes

This is my BIGGEST fear with weight loss. I lay in bed worrying about all this skin I'm going to have. I have been over 300 pounds for 20 years, and am 39 now.My stomach has already dropped. I'm sure the more I lose weight it will just be a skin skirt. and my arms and inner thighs...YIKES
I don't have insurance right now, and I don't think they cover it anyway. I'm curious to know how much it costs. I'm so afraid I'll never be able to get it done (money and so on). I need to keep losing weight though. My health is depending on it. My diabetes is finally under control and I'm not on meds anymore. I'm trying really hard not to let the fear of all this extra skin stop me from my goals. I'll be honest though. It's so scary.

Maybe we could check at the burn center. I think if it is worth their while they might take a donation. Someone told me that but i am not sure how true it is. It sure would be great if it was true. Then we could get rid of the excess skin and put it to good use.

It is scary, but soooo worth it in every way!! In the end, who cares if you have access skin? Really... It's getting healthy that's important.
But who knows, anything can happen.
From what I understand, only in very special cases does insurance cover it. I know I will have to pay for mine out of pocket, but they finance... I'll find out more on the 5th and let you know what I find out!!

Tracie, I never heard of that before. That'd be awesome...

There's a local radio station here giving away 2 - $10k worth of cosmetic surgery... the contest ends in April - I've of course entered, but I'm ready to pay out of pocket when I don't win.

I have lost about 110 pounds, and although still have a lot more to go, my skin is shrinking right back with me so far.

To be honest, I think it's easier for men though. We can always bulk up with muscle to fill in the loose skin, while a woman may not want to go that route.

So for me, it's bulking. If I decided that I wanted a swimmers body, I think I would have a lot more loose skin. I am building as much muscle as I can to fill in the skin. I'm sure as I get closer to goal, I will have more loose skin, but nothing as bad as I thought. When all is said and done, I think I'll end up needing to have an abdominoplasty.

I keep drinking tons of water and exercising though, I really do think that's the key.

It's these freakin' stretch marks that really irk me, but I've gotten use to them too!

                            Hey there,

My appointment went well. We pretty much talked about the tummy tuck and boobs…

The consolation was kind of embarrassing because the Dr. was young and cute…lol, wouldn’t that just be my luck! He was pulling and squishing all of my icky parts… very scary… hehe

Anyway, he said I’d get the full abdominalplasty and that would get rid of 90% of my tummy (of what it is now). I told him I wanted to lose 20-30 more lbs before the surgery but he said that it wouldn’t really make that much a difference. So who knows? He quoted me at $8,000!

He also said that most go back after a few months to have the upper stomach/back lippo’d and that it coasts about 2k…

For the boobs he said that if I got saline it’d be $8,000 and if I got silicone it’d be$10,000. He said that the silicon felt/looked more natural but that he preferred the saline because if they leak the body would naturally absorb it… w/ the silicone he said they have to go in there and dig it out if there’s a leak or rupture…

With both he said they can both last up to 20-25 + years but nature will take it’s course eventually and even those will start to sag resulting in more surgery. Also he said even though the implant looks more natural if you do it under the muscle the implant will stay in place but your boob will start to sag and that it often looks very strange…

Either way, I’m definitely going to go to a few of the other places around here before deciding on a doc!!

I may be forgetting a few details but its late, lol.

Yeah, I wanted to get my arms done too but the Dr I saw is way against it unless you just had to have it done because of the really long scar. So I'm torn... But I'm getting a 2nd opinion (a few more lol) so we'll see what they say. If my squishy jiggly parts won't go away w/ diet and exercise then I'll make them go away! haha
