  • gaining weight

So I started almost a month ago and was able to drop almost 10 pounds in the first two weeks. Not a lot of weight, but I was really excited. I decided to stick to Induction but in the past 3 weeks I have not dropped a pound. Today I got in the scale and I'm up 2 pounds!! I'm still weighing myself everyday because I'm scared that if I wait a week, I'll get so excited to finally see results and I'll be really disappointed.

I am following the rules as best as I can, except for the water thing. I try really hard to drink atleast 64 oz but it's a struggle. Could that be the reason I'm stuck?? I want to drink atleast 100 oz but it's hard.

I'm going to go on a nice loooooonng walk.

    btw i'm 22 yrs old, 5'4"

    Re: gaining weight

I'm not going to tell you not to weigh yourself, but do yourself a favor, and start measuring too. Is it your TOM? Have you been exercising? Eating too much sodium? Any of these things can cause you to show a gain on the scale due to water retention.

Sometimes the scale doesn't move, or even goes up, and you might have lost inches. Get yourself a little notebook and a tape measure, and once a week take your measurements. It's a really great way to track your progress.

Also, keep a food journal, to make sure you're being honest with yourself about what you're eating, and if you're getting in your veggies, or eating too much cheese, etc.

Water is important. Do you like lemon or lime in your water? Maybe squeezing some lemon into your glass would help. Also, try drinking with a straw. It makes the h20 go down faster.

      Re: gaining weight

If you aren't even getting 64 ounces of water in every day, that's most likely your culprit. Water is soooo important. If your body doesn't get enough water it gets dehydrated and then will hold on to every drop of water it possibly can. This will cause no loss, or even GAIN on the scale! I drink about 125-150 ounces of water a day, and if I don't I will start to retain water and get gains on the scale for it. It is Extremely important to drink LOTS of water. Force yourself to drink it in the beginning. As soon as your body realizes that you are going to drink lots of plain water, it will stop retaining water in its cells, you'll get a big loss on the scale (we call it a whooshie) and then you'll be really THIRSTY and will feel like you can't get enough water. This whole cycle is to your benefit of weight loss.

Maybe also you should think about moving up to OWL It just means more veggies. Some people say they started losing weight again after moving.

            Re: gaining weight

Hey guys. I need to vent again...sorry! I have been drinking tons of water and walking and I've been really strict with carbs. Still nothing. And my mom who is 40 lbs lighter than I am started almost 2 weeks after i did and she's losing faster than me. Plus she cheats all the time. She doesn't drink any water (just diet sodas), she eats all kinds of artificial sweetners and sugary sauces. She never exercises either. I'm happy for her, don't get me wrong, but I just can't understand why this isn't working for me.

I got on the scale this morning and broke down crying. I started out so excited and now I feel like I'm never going to be thin and attractive. Yet I don't want to give up this WOE either. Tomorrow will be one month since I started. I guess I'm just proud that I was able to stick with it. My dad made a comment that he can see a slight difference last week, but according to my measurements there have been no changes.

I just really want to make a post that's not such a downer. haha. Maybe I am just constipated and have like 10 lbs of poop built up....? haha I'm going to go drink some water and take the dog on a walk. I'm also going to try and add more carbs today to see if that might help. I hope you all have better luck than me!

              Re: gaining weight

              Take a deep breath.

You are doing just fine. Trust me.

Many people here experience what we call the Post Induction Stall Syndrome where your body won't lose pounds during weeks 3-6. Most people WILL lose inches though as your body adjusts to the loss during your first two weeks. If you keep at it, you'll start seeing losses on the scale shortly. Right now though, OTHER people are obviously seeing the inches lost because they are telling you so! NOBODY sees the number on the scale but you...HOWEVER EVERYONE sees the inches you are losing, Right???

Your mom's day will come where she will pause too. And instead of not losing anything, she'll probably gain. It's bound to happen sooner or later. Just make sure that YOU are doing the plan right, and the losses WILL come.

I have no idea what I would do without you guys! I can't talk about this stuff with my other friends. They always try to sabotage me or make me feel bad for choosing Atkins. Thank you so much for the support. I feel a lot better already. In fact, I feel really fantastic and excited again.

                          Re: gaining weight

If you haven't started exercising- do yourself a huge favor and start now! all it takes is an hour walk- to start. I have only been on atkins for 12 days- I drink 3 L water/day I; I have joined the abs challenge for the rest of april and I have been doing 50 crunches a day; as well as I walk for an hour and a half and do my exercise video most nights- I have so far had one day of weight training.................

I have lost 28 pounds! Keep in mind that on induction you will lose btw 5-10% of your body weight. Keep going and make changes little by little everyday! if you think you are eating too much cheese or veg- measure it up; it you think that you can't drink anymore water- drink more!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE....DO NOT WEIGH YOURSELF! I refused to weigh until near the end of the first 2 weeks...but I did measure and I have lost crazy amounts of inches all over.

Keep going- look at what you are eating and if you need to tweak your menu then tweak.

I eat pretty much the same variations everyday- eggs and meat for breakfast or just egg; meat and salad for lunch and meat and salad or veg for dinner. I use mayo and sour cream mixed with hot sauce as a dip and I season my meat only with salt, pepper and olive oil. for snacks I have turkey pepperoni and cheese or just cheese, or an atkins bar or shake (no more than 2 x a week with those). Make sure you are only eating 3-4 oz of cheese....that can stall you.

I hope this helps you and if you need some motivation- we are all here to help you! Don't give up!

                              Re: gaining weight

                              WOw!!! 28lbs is incredible! Congrats!

I actually had a rough morning because I am stuck again (and I'm PMSing so everything made me cry. haha). I kept track of my food on fitday and I'm eating about 1500 calories and less than 10 carbs. I don't eat any processed cheese or hot dogs or anything. I just got back from the gym after an intense 1 hr workout, and I also try to walk atleast 3-4 times a week for a few miles (2-3 miles uphill and downhill). So I still haven't quite figured out the problem. Maybe I'm not eating enough calories? Maybe I should move up to OWL (but I really don't want to). I'm scared to add more carbs when I haven't even lost that much.

I've been drinking a lot more water but I think I'm going to add even more. I really think sodium is my biggest struggle which might mean I've just been retaining water for a week?? And TOM is coming next week. We'll see. I'll stick with it and try to avoid the scale until AFTER TOM is gone. It's just a little disheartening when I hear about people losing tons of weight and I'm being left behind and I can't figure out why. But then again, all these stories are great inspiration.

I do limit cheese and avoid artificial sweetners except for an occassional sugar free jello (the kind with splenda) but I never eat more than one per day. I haven't noticed any physical changes either. I think crunches would be a good idea. And keeping track of miles to I can stay motivated. Wish me luck!
