Re: TGIF CC Roll Call 1/16/09
Good Morning Blue, Chick and all CC'ers that check in
Burrr is right, for both of you, Blue and Chick! We're having a heat wave in the Great Northwest. Supose to be between 55-65 degrees today here. I bar-b-qued for dinner last night. Was so gooood!
Today is day 10 of induction. I'm looking forward to the veggie rung and dairy rung. I realized yesterday while helping someone on the board that I was eating something I shouldn't of been, parmesian cheese. Ah well, i'll just cut it out untill rung 2. What's done is done. I use it so much that I forgot it wasn't allowed during induction.
I should of known better.
Wishing everyone a great Low Carb Friday.
Stay warm out there!
Love ya, Sherri

Re: TGIF CC Roll Call 1/16/09
Good day all. It's a chilly 72 here in south Florida. Guess I'm going to need a sweater, hehe. Okay, sorry, I'll stop.
It's day 5 of induction and my blood sugar continues to drop. It was 135 this morning, from 141 yesterday, 263 on Monday. I'm loving it.
Sherri, I didn't know Parmesan cheese was not allowed during induction. I love it on my chicken ceaser salad (sans croutons). The list on pg 109 of DANDR (at least the way I read it) does not exclude Parmesan, or many other cheeses. The only ones I recall being specifically excluded are fresh cheeses, such as farmers and cottage cheese. Did I miss something?sigpic

Re: TGIF CC Roll Call 1/16/09
Someone told me yesterday that parmesian wasn't allowed because it wasn't listed on the Induction allowed list. I thought it was even though it wasn't listed because it's not a fresh cheese. Now i'm really confused. Maybe I was right all along? What do you think Chick? Anyone? It's been so long since i've done Induction, almost 5 years ago.Originally posted by Chicklady View PostI thought Parm was allowed too! If not, I have never done a legal induction
Cheese
You can consume three to four ounces daily of the following full-fat, firm, soft and semi-soft aged cheeses*, including:
cheddar
cow, sheep and goat cheese
cream cheese
Gouda
mozzarella
Roquefort and other blue cheeses
Swiss
*All cheeses have some carbohydrate content. The quantity you eat should be governed by that knowledge. The rule of thumb is to count 1 ounce of cheese as equivalent to 1 gram of carbohydrate. Note that cottage cheese, farmer's cheese and other fresh cheeses are not permitted during Induction. No "diet" cheese, cheese spreads or whey cheeses are permitted. Individuals with known yeast symptoms, dairy allergy or cheese intolerance must avoid cheese. Imitation cheese products are not allowed, except for soy or rice cheese but check the carbohydrate content.MOTHEREARTH AKA SHERRI "HOW THE WORLD TURNS AS I SEE IT"

Re: TGIF CC Roll Call 1/16/09
Well now, I'm confused! It IS a low carb cheese. Like all the other allowables it has 1 gram carb per ounce. But...it isn't a fresh cheese, and it isn't a soft or semi-soft. Is there any place he mentions Hard cheeses?

That's just it! Though when reading pge 229 DANDR 2002 #5 States"Cheese (aged full-fat, firm, soft, semi-soft) is limited to three to four ounces daily. Fresh cheeses, such as cottage cheese and farmer's cheese, is too high in carbohydrates for Induction."Originally posted by Chicklady View PostWell now, I'm confused! It IS a low carb cheese. The key words being firm, and the fact that he stressed the fresh cheeses on being to high in Carbohydrates for Induction, tells me that parmesian cheese is alright on Induction. Since we know that parmesian is a hard (firm) cheese and is extremely low on the carbohydrates.
So I say yes on the parmesian cheese for Induction.
Thank you Wanda and Chick for your input.

Re: TGIF CC Roll Call 1/16/09
Hi~ I'm here. I thought parm was a hard cheese and therefore ok. I'd swear I'd read that in THE book. Maybe time for a re-read.
Man, I've been waking up with and having recurring headaches throughout the day since I started again, and I've still had coffee. So it's not a caffeine headache, although today I started doing 50/50, and am only having it with some heavy cream.
Well have a lovely day folks!Best Regards ~Kellen
