Re: Confused, scared, and in pain

    Hey Tutti

I am about the same weight as you so I decided to check to see if I'm taking in enough water. I did a search and found a calculator.

Here is what it said for me

A person who is 302 pounds
and is exercising for 0 minutes ,
    is not pregnant,
    is not breastfeeding,
does not live at a high altitude,
does not live in a dry climate,
    drinks 0 alcoholic drink(s),
when the weather is not very hot or very cold,
and is not sick with fever or diarrhea should have:

151 ounces of water today, or 4.5 liters.
If you eat a healthy diet, about 20 percent of your water may come from the foods you eat. If you eat a healthy diet you can drink 120.8 ounces of water today, or 3.6 liters.

In case you want to take the quiz and see a calculation but I'd estimate even at 120oz your close, but if you excercise, or it's hot, etc might need more.

    Here is the web site

I'm sure there are other resources, or better. It's just what I found in a rush.

When Asians were shown to be very healthy after centuries of eating low protein, but very high carbohydrate in the form of rice and noodles, everybody jumped on the band wagon to mimic that diet. Suddenly, rice and pasta is THE health food for the world at large. Not so. Asians have evolved over eons to have a much bigger pancreas to be able to handle the insulin needs to metabolize a diet high in carbohydrates. A European that evolved as a hunter-gatherer did not need to develop a large pancreas because they only ate vegetation during the summer months and little during the winter months. Any grain stored over the winter would have been unprocessed, whole grains.
Sunny, I have tried lots and lots of diets. Besides Atkins the other one that has worked for me was basically eating the same foods for dinner that my mother made when I was growing up. I would have steel cut oats for breakfast and a huge salad with a turkey pita sandwhich for lunch and a big bowl of rice with stirfry for dinner. Always lost weight that way, except I would always cave within a month and binge on a ton of junk food. I know I can succeed on both plans but I don't have those cravings on Atkins.

            Tutti -

I wanted to say this earlier (I seem to have problems lately with my internet connection) but you are a wonderful person... and I'm so sorry you are going through all of this pain.

You are doing so great and have been so dedicated. You will be in my prayers.

                Hey Tutti,

So sorry you are in pain....pain is just not fun.
If you have a good health food store close by, get some cherry extract supplements. Enzymatic Therapy has a good one. I got some for my Dad a few years back and it totally went away. He ended up taking it daily for a while.

Re: Confused, scared, and in pain

I picked up some Cherry extract capsules this afternoon, and have started them. Might be mind over matter, but the toe that bothered me enough to get me to the health food store is bothering me less tonight, after two doses.

Re: Confused, scared, and in pain

Thanks Shelly. I do all my vitamin and supplement shopping at vitacost.com and they have both that brand and thier brand available so I am going to try to purchase some next payday. I went to the dr today for a BP med check and she ordered blood work and she wants to put me on a regular daily perscription for gout meds. I am a little concerned about that cuz my dad said they tried with him but he ended up having to get off of it imediatly. He is calling me friday so I will check again what medication that was. My dr said they wouldnt know the dosage to perscribe till after the results of the bloodwork. And I am looking for a new dr as well after what happened today...its in my blog if anyone is interested. I know it may not be a big deal to some, but I was really upset and mad at her today...sorry I'm rambling lol

momtomany, that's great that your toe is feeling better after starting the cherry extract. Heck if it is mind over matter, I will still take that over the pain

edited ***LOL Shelly, I just clicked the link you had posted and it went to vitacost.com I love shopping with them. I get my lowcarb dieters multivitamins, EFA's, CoQ-10, L-Carnatine, and Magnesium/calcium/potassium from them***

                        Hello,
I am glad to hear you are better mommytomany...My father was diligent and took that stuff a few times a day, he swore by it. I really don't think its mind over matter thou you guys!!...there is something in cherries and strawberries (but cherry more) - that does something with the uric acid lvls, oh,I forget its been like 8 years since I looked into that. But you would have to eat a boat load (well maybe not that much) to get the amount of active ingredient you would from the extract supplements.

Ive never purchased from that site, I usually just buy from who ever is selling whatever it is I am looking for at lowest cost! Such not the loyalist!

I dont know tutti, maybe try the supplements for a week before commiting to meds?

This whole thread just got me thinking, is it common for Atkins people to develop gout? They call it a rich mans condition because it's brought on by "rich" foods.

                          Hmmmmmmmmm.

I don't think it could be all that common, if you search threads you don't get that many hits on gout, and not all that many folks chiming in on it here.

Yesterday when I flexed my toe, it hurt. Today I am flexing my toe with no pain. I don't usually look for things to help this quickly. (Now I am wondering if I keep it up, will I be able to eat liver?)

Tutti I will check your blog later, just want to let you know I am with you in hopes you feel better!

Woo hoo mommy! I am always giving out suggestions to my friends and family, when they complain about their woes, and they almost never try some of the things I tell them about! Frustrating as heck...especially my mother who always has something going on. You made my day.
