  • Hey!~

Looks like I'm part of the century club eh? Haha, sounds so lavish...

At any rate; I'm on day two; and I think I can do it....just hope it works out... I need alot of morale support, since my family couldnt care less; and all I have is my fiancee who's rather far from me at the moment...

    Meh...

          Re: Hey!~

If you are like some people, you will get what is called 'induction flu'.

Basically you feel run down, and some people (like me) experience some nausea. It's due to your body detoxing off of sugar and moving into ketosis.

I cannot say its the best feeling in the world, but once you move through it you have energy like never before! My house is getting sooooo clean!

You should get some keytone sticks to test if you have started ketosis. Ketosis is your body switching from burning fat instead of carbs. You can usually find the sticks in the diabetes section of the pharmacy.

Wow! This is the most I have said on the forum. Anyone, please jump in and let me know if I have any of it wrong, and what else may needed to be added.

Good Luck Tom!! Let us know how it goes!

Eat something with protein when you are craving carbs. If you do that, soon your body wont want the carbs!

                  Re: Hey!~

Sorry to tell you this, but corn is a no-no on induction. It has too many carbs in it!

                    Re: Hey!~

I thought we were allowed 20 carbs? I ate less than a single serving, which was only 16..and the small bit of spinach was 3. Only carbs I had today.

                    I figured that was alright >.>;

There is a list of vegetables that are allowed. Here is the link to help you.

Go by these rules, and you will be fine!

I don't think you should start over, but I would make sure from now on you go by the induction rules and the legal foods. Also, make sure you drink lots of water!

                              Welcome Tom!

The first thing I will say to you is I want you to change your mentality. I don't want to hear you say "I think I can do it". I want you to KNOW that you can do it. You are a strong person; if you weren't a strong person you wouldn't have made the decision to change your life. Is the Atkins way of eating easy? Nope, not at first. You have to make a conscious effort to follow it every day. You have to read labels and looks for all those tricky ingredients. (Did you know there are at least 20 ways to spell sugar?)

I would also highly suggest that, if you haven't already, you purchase a copy of Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution. You can find it for dirt cheap on Amazon.com or it is usually available in your local bookstore. This is the book that this message board goes by. (Consider it your Atkins' Bible) I am guessing that you probably have not read it. Take time to read it, and not just read it but understand it.

As for what you can expect, yes, most people do experience the "Induction flu". The symptoms vary from person to person. For me, coupled with the caffeine withdrawl I was experiencing, I had a mild yet constant headache for about 5 days straight. Just know that after a few days the symptoms will pass and you will feel better than you have in a long time. For me, personally, the most noticeable change has been in my sleeping habits. I used to lay in bed for 30 minutes, 45 minutes...heck sometimes up to an hour and a half before I could fall asleep. Now I am able to shut out the light and fall asleep within five minutes and get good, quality sleep, even if I only end up getting 5 hours of sleep.

Being active is an important part of your success with Atkins'. You don't have to be participating in Iron Man contests, triathalons, or anything of that nature, but you do have to exercise. If that means simply a stroll around the block in the evening or maybe 15 minutes on the bike, so be it. Whatever you do, don't sit still all day.

I know you can do it Tom! I know you can do it because I did it. At first it may seem difficult, but once you start to see the results all the difficulties will fade away.

If you have any questions please feel free to post them as everyone here is really friendly and we ALL want to see you succeed! Congrats on your decision to change your life, and again welcome!
