    Re: GERMANY!!

    Copied from another thread:

Here are some links that can help you with your search for Splenda and other items:

http://www.lowcarbstore.be/de/ (Dutch company that sells Splenda and other low-carb goodies)

http://www.supermass.com/ (German company: They have Atkins supplements and reasonable priced supps and mins as well as a no-iron/low-carb multivitamin)

http://www.lowcarbladen.de/irw_page.534e5f486f6d65.html (German: They also have a nice sortiment of low-carb food items)

As for the flax, you can go to the DM or any Drogeriemarkt for these items. I found both golden and dark flax at the DM and also at the Kaufland.

I hope these help you find what you are looking for! If you have any other questions about where to find what, or in general, just PM me and I will get in touch with you ASAP.
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
    he said, 'Don't count calories.'

      Re: GERMANY!!

Another member from Germany weighing in (no pun intended)... it's good to know I'm not the only one hoping to lose weight in deutschland! I find it somewhat difficult here to determine what the carb count is in things (not everything is labeled) so, for now, I'm sticking to foods that are as natural as possible.

Eventually though (I'm only on my 4th day of induction) I know I'll need to branch out...

        Re: GERMANY!!

I guess there aren't many folks in Germany on here!

As for anyone looking for splenda, you can find it here... Low Carb in großer Auswahl I only order mine when I absolutely have to. I usually have my family pick up a 1000 count packet box for me from the commissary on base.

BTW, you can also order the Torani sugar free syrups there (made with succralose/Splenda) for your coffee! I've tried it before and it tastes great!

          Re: GERMANY!!

Lol if you need Splenda in Germany, go to Subway, as they have free sachets of Splenda with their sugars etc.....

As for me, I usually buy sweetner tablets from Aldi or Lidl. They don't contain Aspartame, so I guess they should be ok. Nevertheless, I do not consume that much...

Splenda is Succralose, so look for that on the ingredients.

              Re: GERMANY!!

              Hi all,

Looks like this link is a bit slow these days, so I figured I'd say hello. I'm originally from Heidelberg, married me a soldier, lived in the States for 18 years, and now we had a chance to do another tour back home in Germany (we're in Hohenfels now).

I know Germans are still pretty anti-Atkins here and it's really tough to find low-carb products. On Saturday, I found some sugar-free Mohrenkoepfe (the chocolate-covered marshmellow thingies on a little waffle) at the Penny's. Well, I had 3 small ones and the sugar-alcohols gave me a run for the money...hehehe, the bad part was, when it kicked in, I was at a promotion party from work....yikes! So, I learned to stay away from those ickie sugar-alcohols (I should've known better, as I couldn't eat more than 1/2 of a protein bar 10 years ago without having side-effects).

But I really don't miss all these things too much. I've been eating really good foods for a bit over 2 weeks now, I don't mind all too much not having certain things. Yesterday, I got a deep-fryer and was experimenting... I made french-fries out of celery root - oh my GOD!!! If you eat them before they're getting cold, they're nice and crunchy!

Another thing I did a few days ago was ordering a Doener at a little Imbiss. When I got home, I gave the bread to hubby and put the contents in a bowl. Yum!!! I love the spices! Wasn't sure how much this was carb-wise, but it seemed to be okay. I still lost weight and had no cravings afterwards, just took it easy with the higher carb-veggies that evening.

Well, I better get going. I'd love to talk with others in Germany, since there aren't too many of us Atkineers in these parts. Let's get this threat active again!!!

                Re: GERMANY!!

Fast forward to the year 2010! I figured I'd get this thread going again.

Soooo, do we have anybody in Germany doing Atkins these days (other than myself?) Yes, this way of life is still not accepted over here, so it's a little lonely. Since we have a shortage of low-carb products here, I'd love to talk to others and see how you are handling situations, such as grabbing lunch in town, how you explain you're low-carbing to inquisitive minds (yes, apparently Germans still view Atkins as unhealthy... but want diabetics to eat foods sweetened with fructose) or maybe you have converted some traditional German recipes to low-carb.

Either way, let's get this threat going again!!!
