    at weatherspoons
so worried about going there in september
i know all my friends will start makeing jokes if i dont eat a pudding or starter

i dont know anyone on atkins by were i live ,there all on weightwatchers
so i thought id bug you lot with my questions
    hope you dont mind
Hello Liverlady - welcome to our family
Dont worry about the number of eggs your dh eats - many people here have half a dozen or more some days!! And once he gets into ketosis he will probably not need so many to feel full.

You can only eat sausages which have no fillers like breadcrumbs in them. A fairly safe bet is the german-type sausages like bratwurst. The ones we buy from Lidl are virtually all meat with no fillers - you need to look on the labels at the ingredients and not buy ones with starch/breadcrumbs/flour etc listed.

I am not sure what weatherspoons offer on their menu - perhaps you can get hold of a menu and list what is on it here for advice before you go there.
Or pop in and speak to the staff beforehand or phone them and ask.
I have found all restaurants have been helpful if I have contacted them a week or so before going there, and been only too pleased to advise me of which options dont contain flour/sugar/starches etc.

Just think of it as a 'dietary need' - if you were diabetic or had certain religious food needs no-one would think it odd of you to ask for consideration.

For starters I sometimes order pate and leave the toast or bread, or have any chicken dish that isnt breaded, or smoked salmon - again just dont eat the bread if that is on the plate. You can always tell your mates that you want to save space for the main course!!
Main course is usually easy - some kind of grilled meat if I cant find out about sugar/starch in sauces and ask for salad or extra allowed veggies instead of potatoes.
And for dessert I usually ask for the cheese board and only eat the cheese and salad garnish if I have room for any more food!!
If you dont want to mention to your friends that you are on Atkins just say you are watching your weight and only eating whole foods and veggies at present. Mostly people dont actually notice what you are eating anyway - as they are concentrating on what they are eating instead!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

        Re: UK!

I really havem't used the 'LC treats' for my DH as I tend to bake him buns or cakes for those occasions.
I use the microwaved flax bread recipe and add some splenda or Davinci sugarfree syrup to make it sweet for him. Or I sweeten creme fraiche/sour cream/whipped cream to make a sort of cheesecakey/icecreamy dessert for him. Like you I find boiled eggs or celery/mayo/cherry toms make a perfectly satisfying 'treat' for me!!
There are several dessert recipes in the recipes forums that are induction friendly too.

          REDUCED LOW-CARB FOODS

Ive noticed that all the 'Bargain & £1 shops have started selling Low-Carb products extremely cheaply. I bought 10 bottles of Carb Options Caesar Salad dressing today for 39p per bottle instead of the £1.07 it costs in Tesco. Ive seen CarbOptions cooking sauces and Heinz Carb Control pasta (not tempted by the pasta, I don't miss it!!) Asda keep reducing the price off the Russell Stover choccies, but surprisingly im not tempted by them either......

Yes - it is weird to have to eat to lose weight!!

Try not to go more than 6 hours without eating, and always have something in the morning even if only a boiled egg or ham/cheese rollup. I feel it gets the body started on its fat-burning to eat something first thing.

On another board I visit when ADBB is offline they are always saying 'Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dine like a pauper' and many people swear they lose more if they follow this rule.

I just buy the flax seed (linseed in UK) and wizz it in my coffee grinder thingy to make it into meal/flour to use in baking.
I often make a flax bread for sandwiches and toast. Here is the recipe http://www.lowcarbrecipes.org/recipe...and%20Biscuits
                  Quick and easy to make!!
i think it took me hours tonight in the supermarket
everything is high in carbs .even diet stuff
Yes - shopping does take longer but you get used to what you can buy after a few weeks reading all the small print on the labels!

I cant imagine why everything seems to have sugar added - even savoury stuff!!

I tend to buy very little processed foods, mainly fresh stuff and do much more cooking than before.

Congrats on the boots too - when I first started this WOE I was stunned to find out I could do up the front of my raincoat and move without the poppers flying open!
Try Holland and Barret for flax seed as I got mine in there but it's not cheap. I know what you mean about sugar - I bought some prepared English mustard the other day and the second ingredient was sugar! I mean, mustard for God's sake

                      Re: UK!

You may find flax seed cheaper than Holland and Barretts in an independant healthfood shop - my nearest one sells both the golden and brown varieties but I usually get the golden (£2.49 for 500 grams).
Some people say the brown is better if you are using it as a coarsely ground cereal-type dish and the golden is best for baking.

Your dead right, Elizellen - when I went out yesterday I nipped into one of our independents and found it about 2/3rd's of the price off. Just goes to show it's worth shopping around.

Do you know how many calories you are eating now compared to when you started out?

Although Dr Atkins did say not to count calories, we should only be eating enough to make us feel satisfied - not 'stuffed' - and as our bodies shrink we ought to find our appetites diminish too. However some people dont find this and they do need to look at their calorie intake and compare it to their 'output'

Do you use www.fitday.com to log your food intake?
If so you can look at what fitday calls your basal metabolic rate which is shown in the 'calories burned' report and see how that compares with what you are eating. You ought to be eating a few hundred calories above that BMR figure (or 10-12 times your weight in pounds but in calories)
