  • List of reasons why we want to lose weight

    Please feel free to add to the list. It would be helpful to see what everyone comes up with.

    What are some of the things you want to accomplish by losing weight?

    1. I want to be healthy

    2. I want to be pain free

    3. No heartburn

    4. Not be tired all the time

    5. To buy new smaller clothes

    6. Not to have to worry if I will fit into a booth when going to an unfamiliar restaurant

    These are just a few for example that I have in my head. Im sure we can make this list go on and on.........

    Great thread Terry! Why the **** are we doing this anyway?

    My main motivation is to reduce the physical pain I've had for too many years. Of less importance but still significant I want to feel better about myself, be teased less, and get back to a better social life like I used to have. When you're overweight and in pain all the time these things don't just happen magically.

        So I can fit into my clothes!

        So I will have more energy

        So I will eat healthier

        So I will exercise

        So my 30's won't end up being the start of a downihll experience. I want to get older gracefully!

            1. I have 2 sisters who are 10 and 12 years older than me. They don't take care of themselves at all and they are a frightening look into my future!
            2. I am almost 43, which feels closer to old age than young age to me, and so it's the old grey haired ladies that I'm looking closely at now and have pretty much decided that it's the boisterous, laughing, energized ones that I want to be like....not the schlumpy, tired, sore, aching and complaining ones!
            3. I want that pumped up, energized feeling that I had when I lost weight and felt great about myself.

              so i can go into a store and know without a doubt that i can fit into their clothes! not squeeze into the large or extra large..but to actually fit nicely into things!

              so i can look in the mirror and LOVE what i see!

              so i can be comfortable in my own skin!
              Starting Weight: 190 (2005)
              Goal Weight: 140 (met goal summer 06)
              Current Weight: refuse to get on the scale but all my clothes don't fit
              New Goal Weight: 135

                #1 so my clothes fit looser, like they should

                #2 to look good in a bikini

                #3 to feel sexier nude

                  To be able to buy wonderful clothes and look fantastic in them.

                  To be skinny again.

                  To make my husband drool.

                  To feel beautiful.

                  The stuff about health and energy, etc? For me they are bonuses. I enjoy them a lot. But they aren't why I'm wanting to lose weight!!!!

                    ALL great reasons for succeeding in our quests!!

                    I have to admit Finelly, when I had lost before and one day put on a new outfit that accentuated my curves ................ that we had not really seen in awhile
                    The look he gave me when I walked in the room was priceless. (Nice clothes........ especially a great bra LOL can do wonders)

                    THAT is what I want to feel again!

                      Great post!

                      1. I want to put that spark back in my relationship;

                      2. I want to look great in clothes;

                      3. I want to a boost in my self-confidence;

                      4. I want to be skinny;

                      5. I want to not be embarassed to go places;

                      6. I want to wear a swimsuit without cringing;

                      7. I want to run and play with my toddler, without being winded;

                      8. I want to be healthy and live a long prosperous life.

                        I love this thread!

                        1. To feel attractive
                        2. To be less paranoid that people are talking bad about me
                        3. To wear all the fashionable clothes I love, and wear them well.
                        3. To not feel "fat" but feel light. I am much more active when feeling light rather then stuffed!
                        3. To be more respected
                        4. To be more sociable without feeling like the "fat one" in the group
                        5. To be the "hot wife" LOL
                        6. To make my husband proud when we go out
                        7. To not have to lift fat to see certain areas (gross, I know, but true)
                        8. To have a baby in a healthy body
                        9. To be fit and energized
                        10. To not be ashamed of my pictures
                        11. To finally end my struggle and enter my 30's acheiving what I have been trying to achieve since age 12.
                        12. To smile, all the time.
                        13. To no longer give people something bad to say. I have a great job, great husband, nice living for my age, nice social group, but I am fat and sometimes that takes from all of it in others eyes.

                          I have really enjoyed reading this post!

                          Keep listing at will.

                          I want to fit comfortably in an amusement park ride, pull my steering wheel all the way down once again without it hitting my belly........ for a few more.

                            I want to buy cute clothes and not just cute shoes, jewelry, etc... I buy for my daughter all the time because she can wear cute clothes. I want that for myself!

                            1st goal: 139 (earlier weight)
                            what the rungs mean to me:
                            rung 1 - more veggies
                            rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
                            rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
                            rung 4 - berries, melon
                            rung 5 - wine -
                            rung 6 - beans, hummus
                            rung 7 - other fruits
                            rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
                            rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
                            Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
                            (on to pre-maintenance)
