    Re: Hello! It's Saturday!

    How is Harry Potter?

I spent the day washing walls and doing my "spring" cleaning. This week I will begin to scrape my kitchen ceiling and hallway and then rip down wallpaper. This is my one huge goal for the summer and I am getting a late start.

I really do need to figure out what color to put in my kitchen now though. Because behind the wallpaper is................ bright 1960/70's ORANGE. And in the hall behind is a blue from the same era. I may have enjoyed the 70's immensely but am not a fan of the colors.

Terry... doing the home renovation here also... trying to do a "While You Were Out" for my hubby while he's deployed. He'll be here in September for two weeks for midtour leave so I have to get my butt moving... finished 5 rooms, have 5 more to do.... Luckily, no 70's colors..just really old faded cream...INCLUDING the ceilings... what were these people thinking?!?!?! LOL

        Wow.......You are busy!

I am not a natural at this renovation thing and as much as I enjoy it, for the most part anyway.................. I HATE patching walls with a passion.

I guess these colors were popular at the time but boy are they bright! LOL Im going to get the primer up as soon as I can so at least the glare wont blind us when we get into the kitchen every morning for that first cup of coffee!

          Harry Potter is GGGGRRRREEEAAAATTTT!

Ok, I don't know if you really want my advice on paint colors....I'm sort of bold. Here's my house:

Living room: One copper wall, 3 lavendar walls. Purple and cream sofas (one of each). Oriental carpets.

Dining room: 3 copper walls, one dark turquoise wall. White furniture.

Main bath: Dark turquoise walls alternating with royal blue walls.

Library: Red sponged walls, charcoal bookcases.

Kitchen: inside of cabinets is the dark turqoise. Outside is charcoal. Walls are copper. Countertop is dark charcoal.

Bedroom: 1 red wall, 1 dark purple wall. WRought iron furniture, oriental rugs.

          I hate pastels.....I hate orange......

Terry.... primer can be a lovely color...LOL
It's amazing sometimes what one coat of white on a wall will do to completely change the feeling of a room. I'm excited to start on my kitchen. LOTS and LOTS of white with slate blue accents.

                Re: Hello! It's Saturday!

Yep, yep, sure is! Purple and red are my favorite colors. When I met my dh, I told him I like to paint bold colors on walls, and he said "My house is your pallette". (spelling?)

We have a lot of great art and oriental rugs that look fabulous with those colors.....

                  Re: Hello! It's Saturday!

Very Bold! I dont like pastels either, last sumemer I put Cancun Blue in the bathroom and everyone thought it was to bright but with white wanescoating around the bottom and the right accents it has a beach feel to it and I like it.

The kitchen has dark paneling up the first half of the wall and that made it really dark so I am going for something to brighten it up. Painting the cupboards too.

                    Re: Hello! It's Saturday!

I bought a beautiful comforter for my bed and it has light and dark slate blue, sage green, a dark lavender and white.... so I pretty much based my house around those colors... painted my oldest daugter's room in a coordinating yellow. Then I got creative about a month ago and painted a tree on my 4 year olds wall with cartoon blue birds on the branches..LOL. The tree is HUGE! LOL

That comforter sounds like a nice color combination.

Painted a tree..... I am not that good! Now I may be able to manage a pre pasted border in a coordinating color.............

                      I applaud you for that!

                        Re: Hello! It's Saturday!

The tree wasn't the hard part. Did the basic trunk, branches, leaves and then shading... the hard part was the birds. If you've ever seen Monster's Inc. DVD (special features) there is a cartoon short called "For the Birds"... it's hilarious..so anyway, I painted those birds... 26 of them. It was a long process but well worth the work... my daughter absolutely loves sleeping under a tree full of birds..LOL

                          Wow..............Birds too!

                          I feel so inadequate LOL

LOL... don't feel bad... it's an obsession in all the women of my family. We're all crafters and each one of us is jealous of an ability that the other has and we don't..LOL...
