You read it all the time: The scale is not your friend. The tape measure is. Don't worry about how many pounds you weigh; pay attention to how many inches you are losing.
Most of us can repeat the above over and over to others, but I don't think we always actually believe it ourselves. That scale has amazing power over us, and can literally send us into a tailspin.
This MAY (may not!) be even more of an issue on the second time around on Atkins. A lot of us are discovering that the weight comes off more slowly, at least during the induction period. No matter how we struggle to rid ourselves of the Power of the Scale, it's still there, lurking, telling us all sorts of nasty things when we are feeling vulnerable.
So, in an effort to shut that voice up once and for all, I thought I'd go over actual RESULTS, not just the "measure, not weigh" mantra.
In my first two weeks, I probably lost about 5 lbs. And 16 inches.
In the first month, I have lost about 8 lbs, and 23.5 inches.
Another STAC-ked member in one night lost 1/2 lb and 3 inches.
During our first two-week measurements challenge, one member lost 2 lbs and 18 inches.
Nobody failed to lose several inches, even when weight loss was minimal.
People who exercised regularly lost inches. People who didn't exercise regularly lost inches. People who are good about drinking their water lost inches. People who often forget the water thing lost inches. The ONLY thing everyone had in common was that they were doing the Atkins woe.
The next time the scale tries to knock the sense outta you, remember the FACTS. And don't forget to keep your tape measure handy!
