  • Induction challenge?

    Hey everyone!

Is there an induction challenge going on that I could join? If not, anyone want to join me in one?

I'm trying to bolster up my motivation. I've just upped my exercise level to 'crazy' so I haven't been really motivated to eat low-carb particularly. My brain figures that the exercise will be enough - which it may be, but on the other hand I really should continue to eat well.

Anyway, anyone up for a challenge?

Some people do Atkins and never exercise. Some exercise and don't really follow Atkins.

I sometimes wonder how much more successful someone would be if they tried both. The way Dr Atkins meant it to be!

Why not shoot for a fully successful you? Why are you holding back? Why don't you deserve to get thin? Are you blaming the world around you for your weight loss, or are you down on yourself (externalizing versus internalizing).

You need to ask yourself these questions. They're tough. But until you do, I think it will be tough for you to WANT to do this the right way. And I want you to want this for yourself!

So there is your induction challenge #1.

      Re: Induction challenge?

Why not shoot for a fully successful you?

Good question. I guess it's just because I only have 10 pounds to lose and I know I'm not going to be on induction forever and I feel like I should lose those in a way that will be the rest of my life. Maintenance, I suppose. But I can't really start there, so induction it is!

      Why are you holding back?

I think because after my weekend in chicago where low-carb food was not be be had at 3 different events in two days (one of which was all day long), I was already weak. Then I got back and found out bad news about my ex and my friends, which knocked me off my plan altogether. But, I went camping this weekend and remembered how much I LOVE being tired after exercising, so I now have a bee in my bonnet about exercising. I just haven't gotten back to the food part of it yet. I think I'm still a little upset about what my ex is doing.

I shouldn't let him do this to me.

Why don't you deserve to get thin?

Now this is a good question. I've been depressed for about 2 years now and I think I have a very low self-esteem now as a result. I feel like half a person, and no one likes half a person. This feeling was really increased last week when I found out my ex was wooing my friends away from me. They're hanging out with HIM now instead of me, what is wrong with me? This weekend showed me that I have other friends (who don't even know him) who do care about me, so that was good, but I think I'm still feeling like a somewhat useless person. I still haven't been able to get all the work done that I should, and that's no good.

Are you blaming the world around you for your weight loss, or are you down on yourself (externalizing versus internalizing).

I think it's a combination of both. I'm blaming myself for letting the world around me get me down. I have definitely noticed that when I get depressed I start eating like crap. Usually I can stay at a weight once I'm there as long as I'm eating normal food. It's when I get depressed and start overeating and eating junk that I start gaining weight. I'm still struggling with that, trying to exorcise that demon once and for all. For now would do though. heh.

It's sad, the first time i got depressed I stopped eating. Of course, I was skinny to begin with so I ended up 103 pounds, so that wasn't so good either! not sure why it's the opposite now.

        Re: Induction challenge?

Knickknack! You go girl! I love reading you really analyze yourself!

        1) With only 10 pounds to lose, I totally understand. So just give the induction a week. Get into a strong ketosis. Then move either into OWL or modified OWL. What foods are you missing most?

        2) Being upset is understandable. Also, you've never fully gotten the cravings out of your body. We've eaten carbs for so many years of our lives that it's totally understandable that our brains still want them, especially in times of stress! Still, to cave (as you know) doesn't solve problems with your ex... and you're all about positive action!

        3) Your ex is the problem... not you. Talk about control issues! Oivay! Why doesn't he just whiz in your flax flakes while he's at it? Good thing you kicked him to the curb! He's got enough personal issues and insecurities! You have had to deal with HIS dysfunction and you're taking more of this on yourself than you ought to. He was a selfish, high-maintenance kind of guy! I am SO cheering your kicking him to the curb, girl!

So now, girl! Plan of action time:

The next time you get upset, what are you going to do?

        1) You'll put on your workout gear and you'll jog in place. Throw some air punches. Do some pushups. Get that aggression out!

        2) Phone a friend. Talk out your problems with someone who cares about you.

        3) Write a letter and get it all out! Don't send it, but just VENT, girl! Heaven knows you've earned that.

        4) Buy yourself some flowers. You're worth it!

        5) Listen to some good music and boogie!

        6) Paint your nails.

        7) Indulge in a fashion or home decorating magazine.

        Smell something pretty.

        Don't deny your feelings.

Are you tired? Take a nap. Bored? Try one of the remedies I recommended. Angry? Write that letter!

Take action based on the situation. Eating only punishes you, and it doesn't do any good in the end.

              Re: Induction challenge?

Cleo, you rock. that all made me smile.

I have decided already to exercise instead of sitting around the house moping and getting more and more depressed. Today I ran/walked 2 miles and swam a mile. I'm hoping that will take care of some of this mood crap that I deal with. If nothing else it will tire me out!

You're right, it is him not me. It's just so hard for me to believe that anyone would want me the way I am right now (mental problems, not the weight) that I guess it's hard for me to see the point of losing the weight. I feel like i'm putting up a false front when I'm skinny - i look good but inside.......not so much. I also dont think I like myself very much either, so I'm guessing that's why it's so hard to do it for myself.

As for the challenge: I was thinking something along the lines of a group who are trying to stay clean (haha) to encourage each other. So it'd be a one week strict induction and then after that another week of either induction or OWL in my case. Anyone interested?

              But, i'm working on it!

                Re: Induction challenge?

I'd love to join you in the challenge for a week, and then to meet my goal/your goal as well. I, too, am small framed, and only need to lose about 8 lbs (i'm 5ft8in and weigh 133). I just find it hard to stick with a clean induction and I think that is what my body needs to give it a jump-start. I, too, have suffered from depression, and continue to battle it each day, but it's much better and I exercise on a daily basis which helps.
I really do need someone to check in with each day if possible while doing this induction. I read your story, and I think you and I have a great chance at fighting these last few lbs! (i've been stuck on a plateau for ages now)
                Good luck.

                      Re: Induction challenge?

hi all! I don't really want to do boot camp - no real reason. I guess it's just because I'm so close - last time I did this I did induction (more or less, with some nuts and berries) til the very end and then kept losing when I hit goal because I didn't taper off in time. And then gained those extra pounds right back again anyway - I was a bit too low I think.

Why don't we start the challenge on Monday, to give everyone a chance to go shopping. I need to go too, in any case. Which isn't to say that we shoudln't all be good over the weekend! I'm certainly planning on it anyway.
