  • And........she's OFF!!!!

ok, the hardest part is over.....

    I started!!!

Here are my meals so far:

Brfst: One egg fried in butter topped with cheddar to make it palatable, coffee w cream and splenda

Lunch: Can of tuna, celery, diet cola

    Snack: 10 Macadamias

Supper: 3 hot dogs w sauerkraut and mustard, 5 grapes

Snack: 5 olives and 1 oz. cheddar

So I didn't use the excuse that came up since I committed to starting today: sure, I'm broke and couldn't afford the hamburger and shrimp and veggies and muffin ingredients that I planned to get, but next Friday will be better. I can certainly put up with icky eggs for a week! Better than adding another 2-3 pounds like I've been doing. I can't even fit my BIG jeans! (No, not the size 1x, I mean the size 12's!!!) If I keep doing this WOE half-hearted like I've been doing, I will have no problem fitting into the 1x's in the attic!!! Although I will want to STAY in the attic!

I started a migraine in late morning, but got it under control with some aspirin, acetominophen, and caffeine at lunch. I don't think it was carb withdrawal, though since it was too early to have mattered. I never did eat junk for breakfast even when binging. And I'm not nearly as exhausted as I have been, usually starting at 3pm, classic low blood sugar.

This time I'm not listening to the do-gooders that have told me I'm too thin or that I deserve to eat the carbs I love. They don't have to live in this body. The one with the deteriorating discs that hurt so bad I had to stop once on the way home from work, just to stretch and get off my fat butt. I know it's the extra 27 pounds that is making it worse, along with my knee. I had maintained at about 129-133 for about a year, and my back was lots better than the month before I started Atkins and was about to have surgery.

I really do need to lose. Not just to get into the cute clothes (which went up in the attic about 2 months ago), but for my health first of all. Wish me well, and I'll keep posting to keep myself in line!! It really did help before and I know it will again.

    Go Smallerizing Go!!

Meals look good (should probably mention the macadamias/grapes are not induction friendly) You did the right thing by not waiting that extra week because by the time that extra week comes to pass you are going to be well on your way and feeling much better!

Wow, you whizzed right by! Talk about a quick start!

      But let me tell you.......

      1. You DO deserve to eat the carbs you love. It's just that it's what your BODY loves, not actually YOU. And your body loves the kind of carbs that come from veggies.

      2. You ARE too thin. For a sumo wrestler. I mean, let's face it. You are never gonna be on the Olympic Sumo Wrestling team......there goes the gold medal for STACked.

Yeah, I know i "cheated" technically with the nuts and especially the grapes. The macadamias were in my desk drawer and I needed to eat something with my aspirin for the migraine. No fun having ulcers when you're about to buy bacon and stuff.

The grapes WERE inexcusable. They were my DD's and they looked SOOO good. She had a tummy ache yesterday so I picked them up for her. Still have some taunting me from the fridge, in fact!!!!

I wasn't planning on doing a strict Induction this time. I know, a big surprise to those of you who may know me as the Cap'n of the infamous Induction ship from a now-defunct board! I found out, on my WAY-too-many re-starts this year, that I am less likely to get a migraine if I go back to OWL levels to start, slowly get into ketosis, and then Induction when I've gotten past the carb-withdrawal. Since my intentions are to stay the course this time around, I guess I'll get a slower loss initially but I won't quit over "feeling sorry for myself" or feel I need the carbs to get rid of the crushing headache. Which, I found out, actually works. Unfortunately, I'm finding out the side effects of self-medicating with carbs is a VERY bad back.

Breakfast: Yukky egg with shredded cheese, half cup of coffee since I want to go back to bed.

I took some pictures last night, and was SHOCKED at how fat I look. Here all along I thought I was still kinda skinny. Why didn't anyone tell me? Except Finnelly, of course. My REALLY FAT pictures were always shocking, too.

I could not post these as profile pictures, and could not get them down to size without making them look like the work of Picasso. So here's a link (I hope) so I have a record of my "before" STAC.

                Re: And........she's OFF!!!!

                Hi Smaller-

I get that headache too when I start induction - I don't think it's actually a migraine although it feels like a combination of a migraine and a sinus headache. It sucks doesn't it? I get it worse some times than other times when starting induction, I have no idea why. When it's really bad though, you're right - eating carbs helps a lot. Gotta love carb withdrawal!

                How's day two coming along?

Good luck to you. You know, you have to find out what works for you. This is a WOL, not a short-term diet, and something we all need to figure out how to make work for us FROM NOW ON. Granted, the maintenance will be much easier because we can get by with more carbs when we are not trying to burn off body fat and just burning the energy from the food we are eating. But eating more carbs doesn't translate into the old way of eating, either.

                      Re: And........she's OFF!!!!

Day 2.....not so good but I'm NOT falling off the wagon. If I hadn't posted that I was restarting I definitely would have!! Why waste a perfectly good weekend depriving myself? Of course I would have hated myself for my lack of willpower....

I've gone to the fridge twice this morning and had to scold the evil grapes. Gotta make my dd eat them or I will!! I need to check the carb count on the six I had yesterday, maybe I'm having some withdrawal after all. The headache is not that bad today. I assume it's a migraine because it's on one side of my head, and my neurologist says it's ALWAYS a migraine. She had me drugged up for a couple years on preventive stuff, but I could not drive at night after the biggest dose, nor early morning. I quit them last November after my regular doctor said I could but the specialist was not in agreement. Ergo, I now have a low-grade migraine all the time like I did following the car accident that brought it on. Hey, I just realized that's when I started re-gaining!! Do you think migraine causes carb-craving?

So on my trips to the fridge, I indulged in an ounce of cream cheese (each time) and I STILL WANT TO EAT. I did get some spare ribs and parboiling them now for supper, will try 2big's idea of "fake" bbq sauce and grill them. I have no idea what I will do for lunch since DH took ALL the hot dogs to work with him. But I'm SOOOO hungry. I don't know why, except that I'm doing less carbs than I intended to do (depending on what was in the grapes).

What am I doing this weekend? Gotta work (my second job, my own hours) and then some gardening if it's not too bad on my back. The Ophelia moisture should make it easier to do weeding, and of course I will sit on the wet ground instead of bending. But wearing what??? My stupid jeans don't fit anymore, and I'm NOT getting bigger ones!!

Drinking lots of water as a substitute for munching. Maybe later I'll try making some flax muffins with a little low-carb baking mix, since I don't have the soy isolate. Last time I tried that, they fell apart though. I do have celery and cauliflower but that doesn't sound good to me. I need dip with it!! See why I wanted to go grocery shopping before starting??

Sorry I'm such a whiner. But if I whine to non-Atkins folks you know what they would tell me, and of course I would do it. See where THAT got me?

well, since you are an Atkineer, then I can ask you what kind of cheese do you want with than whine???

Whine all you want, honey - it's hard the first few days until the carbs are gone and your appetite quits screaming at you.

And you have made it doubly tough by not shopping ahead of time. I like the cream cheese with chives on my celery sticks. Do you have any tuna? Tuna fish makes a good dip for your crunchy veggies. How about velveeta-type cheese and hot sauce? Melt some in the microwave and stir in some hot picante sauce (1 carb per Tbl) and you have a spicy dip.

parboiling pork ribs? (shudder) ok heres a really easy greek lemon rib recipe. My hubby is a gourmet chef and I'm spoiled.

Rub ribs with greek seasoning (check labels til you find one without hidden crap) lemon and garlic butter. Barbeque or oven roast them, (grease pan) turning often. Baste with garlic butter often while baking/barbequeing. Use real garlic, you can buy it crushed in the jars now. Once you take the ribs of the barbeque, or out of the oven, baste again with garlic butter and lemon and serve. I like mine charbroiled and a little blackened. But each to their own level of doneness. I always have these in the house, they save me daily from cheating. I buy greek riblets at the butcher, cheap and already half seasoned. $20 for 20 pieces. lasts me a week having them at least once a day.

I imagine sh'es just boiling them before she grills them - tha'ts what I do with the big pork ribs. Otherwise they just seem too tough as I don't have a smoker. ;-)

Sounds like you're thin on food, smaller. Just remember to EAT if you're starving - don't wait til the 'time' to eat, just eat. all day if you have to. Go buy some tunafish, it's 50 cents a can or so, that's probably what I would do.

Had tuna yesterday, and if I eat it today I'll be ruined on it for a while! Oh, yeah, I'll grill the ribs, they are country style and this would be the first time I did it to this kind. I par-boil my regular ribs and they are SCRUMPTIOUS. Got the recipe from my son in law. The big question is what kind of sauce, and you keep on saying Greek seasoning, Starmaker, but I've never seen that here in Tennessee. Can you make it out of other stuff that hopefully I have around? As it is, I'm gonna take 2big's idea and mess with it by using tomato sauce instead of a tomato, just add spices and maybe some splenda. I used to have low-carb sauce in the house, but, oh well.

So I forget, when does this blessed appetite suppression kick in? Of course I didn't get Keto Stix either so I'll have to guess.
