  • Help, Quick, I am getting stressed...

    Okay, thanks in advance for listening. I am going crazy in my own home! It is Thanksgiving week and my dreaded mother-in-law is in town. I am just hating every minute of it. She got here last night and I have spent three hours with her so far! Thankfully, I have work to go to or I would be going crazy. They are leaving Saturday morning, so I calculate I have 21 hours to deal with them since Thursday will be a long day! I came to work so stressed out and headachy that my co-worker asked my out for lunch. I told her that I would think about it because I brought my lunch. (I brought my steak salad, totally atkins friendly) BUT, I really want to go to get out of here for awhile, BUT (again with the but) IF I go to lunch, I am going to have comfort food. I know it! Can you believe that I am actually sitting here thinking about INTENTIONALLY sabotaging all that I have worked for? I need an alternative to dealing with this stress! Help me. And hurry, it is almost lunchtime!

    1st goal: 139 (earlier weight)
    what the rungs mean to me:
    rung 1 - more veggies
    rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
    rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
    rung 4 - berries, melon
    rung 5 - wine -
    rung 6 - beans, hummus
    rung 7 - other fruits
    rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
    rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
    Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
    (on to pre-maintenance)

    I see a couple of motivations right in your signature that should keep your butt planted and you eating the lunch you brought with you - you know - the one that you planned so in a stressful situation you'd have a smart, healthy alternative.

    But then, if those things aren't important to you, go ahead. Let the Monster-In-Law control you and your decisions and how you choose to react. Let her win and go eat something to make your butt bigger.

    Seriously - sometimes the best stress relief out there is simple - and that's to just keep taking good care of yourself. You already planned ahead to do that, so what's stopping you?!!

      Hi Shannon! Others probably have good ideas for how to deal with the stress, but remember this...if you eat comfort foods instead of your (sounds delicious) lunch, then you will feel even worse and you'll be stressed out that you sabotaged yourself on top of everything else. How about going for a walk at lunch? do some window shopping? Leave your money behind so you aren't tempted by lunchtime food smells. Or take enough money to get a nice decaf at Starbucks or something. Maybe your co-worker will join you for a coffee. After you've eaten your lunch. Then you can talk to her over a nice coffee that won't hurt you.

        Stay away from the comfort foods Shannon!!!!

        Brook is right................... Dont give mil that kind of power over you. If you decide to go out then be sure to go somewhere that you can get something legal and if it is possible do a little window shopping and get yourself something even if it is just a new shade of nail polish (Say................... some hot red color that mil hates but would be a little passive aggressive something to help keep you strong while she is in town! Oops I digress)

        You CAN do it Shannon! I have faith in you!!!

          easy solution for lunch take your brown bag and go be with coworker. order a nice glass of icewater and sip your water and chat whileshe eats hers and you eat yours.

          About monster in law why not give her some assigned reading as recruit her to be one of your Atkins support tema members and ahnd herthe book so she "will know what i'm allowed and not allowed on my new healthier eatring plan" I figure you can ask her every time she gets on your nerves if she has finished reading the book cause you really need help during this stressful time of the yr with allthose foods around and you will need to use your book as reference when she goes home.

            You guys make me laugh out loud. You really do! Terry, I love the idea of getting something that would annoy her. Maybe I will buy really tight sweater. She hates that!

            Also, you know, I never thought of it as her controlling me. That is a good point, though, a very good point. If I eat that burger/ pizza at lunch, she is winning. She is keeping me from controlling my own decisions. She would love that.

            No, I will not go to lunch. Not today. I will eat here at my desk, then take a walk around the building. It is beautiful here today, we had a cool front come through and it is lovely!

                          Awesome guys, I will call you when the deed is done. Cleo, you bring the chain saw and Lady, can I count on you to drive? I knew you were true friends.

                          And btw, I just finished my steak salad and my buddy and I are taking a quick walk or as I like to say, a Field Trip!

                          I hope my MIL sleeps well tonight.

                            LOL! Shannon-- I've got the carpet ready to roll her into.

                            People like that who feel the need to control others just can't handle abdicating that control. Your taking it from her is enough to make her spit a brick. That's a good thing. Bricks are expensive right now, and a low wall around your azaleas would look pretty nice!
