Re: How's everyone doing? update thread!

Wow everyone is doing really great! It's day 14 for me & I've lost 8 lbs.
I stumbled a little, but, with the help & support of everyone here I made it.

I was contemplating doing induction for one more week, but, I think I'm going to move on to owl.

I have to reread the DANDR regarding owl & look on the boards cuz I have no idea what the steps are. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you over in the owl thread!!

Re: How's everyone doing? update thread!

Hello all! I am back and ready to go! The only area where I need work is my exercise! I have actually been drinking 84 ounces of water a day, which is SO much for me. I have been sticking to the plan. I just need to get out and walk now and I will be set. I think I have lost about 6 pounds, but not POSITIVE. I will weigh in at T.O.P.S. tomorrow morning and then update everybody. I started this on January 12th, so not so bad so far!

Re: How's everyone doing? update thread!

I've been re-reading the "Slow scales" sticky this morning. Knowing it will happen still is different from experiencing it, I guess. I'm on day 6 of extended induction, and I didn't cheat, but I feel depressed today. It seems to be such a huge accomplishment to lose all this weight ... my body and soul remember the last struggle with weight and this makes it even more tiresome. I know that this will work in the long run (which is the only thing thatc ounts), I only have to stick with it, but still... I'm feeling blue today.

            wow, connie, way to go!

Yemenite - 6 pounds in 3 weeks is still fantastic! And don't forget that a lot of people stall after initial induction - try not to let it get you down! Remember that this is an attempt at a way of life now, and that you are healthier eating this way than you were before. that in and of itself is a great goal!

Started Jan 1st, was back and forth for a bit. I'd do great for several days and drop a couple of pounds, then I'd go crazy one day and gain it all back. Now I've been VERY good since Wednesday (1/1. Since the 1st I am down about 6lbs. Of course I lost and gained back the first three and had to work to lose them again. Did the same d*mn thing with the second three pounds! UGH!!!! Nothing like making myself work harder!LOL

Re: How's everyone doing? update thread!

                      Hi everyone!

Once upon a time (about two years ago) I started Atkins and proceeded to lose 65 pounds! Then, somehow, I stumbled and have been on and off since.

I restarted, this time with my wonderful wife, on January 16. I've been on and off several times since I first stumbled and I haven't really felt good about myself since. This time I intend to stick to it because I've regained 39 of my lost 65 pounds.

Hopefully, seeing what you guys are experiencing will help me. It will be good to share in your successes while I struggle with mine. Good luck to everyone here!!

                        Re: Shoecrazy Slowpoke

For breakfast I pretty much have eggs every day I am REALLY tired of eggs... I fry them or scramble them, and sometimes sprinkle some cheese on them. I usually have 2 or 3 strips of bacon, and twice I have had one sausage patty from McDonalds just for variety, but I really don't like sausage. For lunch I have salad with lettuce, celery, sometimes cucumber, sometimes green pepper, about a tablespoon of either sunflower seeds or soy nuts, and shredded cheese plus either a chicken breast or a piece of pot roast or a hamburger patty. I have also had Arby's chicken club salad which has bacon, grilled chicken, boiled egg, and salad greens. Very handy for work days. For supper I will have either chicken breast grilled with some strips of green pepper sauteed with it, or a hamburger patty with cheese, or pot roast or a pork chop, whatever kind of meat. I have either a salad again or some cauliflower with cheese, I used the recipe I found in the recipe thread that makes them kind of like mashed potatoes with cheese....pretty good! or, string beans, or raw veggies like cauliflower or celery with cream cheese. Sometimes I have breakfast for supper if I don't feel like eating a big chunk of meat, I'll have eggs and bacon. I never use dressing on my salads, never did because I don't like it. I have cut my coffee down from 2 pots a day to 2 cups a day, thanks for the blasting headaches!! If I need a snack, which I do pretty much every day, I will have a few soy nuts, sunflower seeds, or mixed nuts-all 4 carbs or less. This week I found MetRX Protein Plus low carb bars which are awesome-only 2 carbs, and they're chewy choclatey! I used to eat the regular high-carb ones sometimes if I didn't have time for a meal. I am drinking between 1.5-2 liters of water each day, which I am finding my body craving water now! I take my water with me everywhere. I go back and forth between plain water and the WalMart American clear flavored no-carb, carbonated water, depending on what I feel like. I have not had one iota of sugar, pasta, bread, potato, starchy veggie, dessert, soda, nothing of any kind since Jan.9th. I am really getting discouraged because I expected a little more out of this by now, especially considering how I used to eat. I had a gigantic bowl of cereal every day, and thought I was doing good because it was special K lol...I used to have AT LEAST 2 sweet desserts each day, candy bars, soda, frequently a whole bag of microwave popcorn, snacked on cookies (and I don't mean one or two cookies-more like 10 or 12!!) I was BAAAADDD...so that's why I thought things would move just a little faster, considering the major huge change in eating. I also went out and bought myself the Tony Little gazelle and I absolutely love that thing!!! I work on it 20 or 30 minutes in front of the TV and my goal is 5 times a week (I've only had it for 3 days.) This morning I still have only a trace of ketones, and I have not lost any more. I have measured myself, and nothing has changed. Maybe my body is rebelling from the lack of carbs, I don't know. Help me out here! I am so glad I found this site though, I read it every day and it helps me stay motivated...I think about you all when I get bummed and know you're all out there doing it too, and it makes me feel better. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

                          Hi shoecrazy

first, do you use fitday? You might want to try tracking your food intake to see what's wrong. And then, of course, please post a menu to the Review my menu section.

The part I have quoted above makes me wonder: many people stall on low carb bars. And maybe you should try to do a clean induction withput coffee, maybe without nuts and seeds and going very very easy on cheese, too. Dairy and nuts may stall your weight loss, too.

You might need more water. Since you want to lose 50 lbs thats 64 oz plus 8 oz for every 25 lbs you want to lose or minimum 80 oz - I come up with 2.36 litres required.

AND there is a reason why people should not weigh themselves before finishing a proper clean induction - Read the stickies in the induction forum.

                          Welcome to this thread,

Yep, nuts and seeds are NOT induction appropriate, and those low carb bars can seriously cause a lot of people to stop losing weight. That flavored carbonated water also needs to go - nutrasweet can stall people and even splenda might be the culprit - I've heard some people can't even have that. You're not supposed to eat nutrasweet and only 3 packets of splenda a day (if you can eat it at all).

And one thing to remember is that it took you a long time to put the weight on, you you can't expect it to fly right off. Plus, different people react differently to atkins. For me, I lose weight real fast in the first week (I had a lot of water weight from the prednisone i was on about a month ago) and then pretty much stall for about two weeks. Then I start losing again, but it's not as fast as that first week. But you just keep going, it does work!

Ok, I am going to start over today. I need to look at some more recipes to help me get through this induction! Maybe using sliced cheese would be better than shredded right now so I can have a real strict measurement of how much cheese I'm eating-it's easy to go bonkers with the shredded cheese. Thanks for the info!

Seems like a good plan, shoecrazy !!

Btw another reason for avoiding the pre-shredded cheese is that often they have added starch to keep the shreds from sticking together!
