Induction -- Day Seven -- One Week Down!

    Woo Hoo!!

Yeah for us! One whole week with half of Induction over!!

Sad to say that whatever is going around started Friday night with a scatchy throat. Saturday I was up and down (in bed) most of the day...I'd get up a little while, post here, read threads, work a little around the house and then go back to bed. The coughing was the worst part. Finally, Matt tried different medicines and the last combo he gave me last night worked because by the time my brother got here (8 pm) I was feeling better and able to function more normal. We had a good time, grilled hamburgers, I made fresh green beans, spinach, fries (for the guys) and cut up some tomatoes. We ate a few olives while we waited for everything to cook. (I was feeling still sorta bad and ended up only eating about 10 bites of my food and couldn't go any more.) We watched "The Rundown" with him and it is nice to see him laugh. He had kidney problems (stones regularly) and is not supposed to eat much protein, diabetic, hypothyroid and had a triple bypass in 2000. So, it is hard for him to find what he can eat -- basically fat (due to kidney & diabetes). He is not monitoring his sugars any more and that worries me some. I wish he'd move nearby so I could watch out for him. I tried to encourage him, if nothing else, to at least get 30 minutes of exercise in a day.

My brother left around 9:30 am today. I was sad to see him go, but with feeling so bad I am worried he may catch what I have too. Matt said that his throat feels a little scratchy today too. (sigh) I told both of them I had 100 degree fever yesterday so at least my brother knew the risks before he got here.

Anyway, we had a good time.

I've been in bed since he left and thought I needed to get up and eat something so I'm eating on my leftovers from last night.

How is everyone else doing today? What's going on in your life?

I'm excited that our first week is over and that the next week will be so much easier. Yeah for us!!

Best wishes to all of you!

Kat, I'm sorry to hear you are feeling under the weather. Get lots of fluids and rest. I hope you are extremely proud of yourself! You are half way through induction and doing incredibly well!!
Thanks for all of your support and inspiration! It is helping me immensely!
My day six started out with a headache, but it's gone now. Due to the pollen I believe. Both my husband and I woke up with it. I downed a claratin and an ibuprofin and now have relief.
Dinner is just about ready. I am trying Tracey's Southern Ribs, or something like that from the main dishes thread. They smell wonderful.
I think I will follow your lead Kat and print out a bunch of recipes and put them in a binder or folder. I binder with page protectors would be best I guess, seeing as it will be in the kitchen.
I saw you have joined the abs challenge! Great!!! I am sure feeling it today in my stomach and lower back. Hope it is normal to feel it in the lower back at first. ~eek!
I think I am doing them correctly.
Hope all of our Induction Buddies are doing SUPER!!!

    Erin

P.S. Kat don't forget to change your siggy...you are on day SEVEN!!!! Woo Hoo!

I'm here with ya'll for DAY 7. I'm so proud that we made it through the week together!
I went to a big party on Friday and didn't touch any of the food, except for these delicious (and safe) quiche bites someone made. I'm making better progress than I expected this time, and I think it's because I quit coffee and soda, and started exercising. I can already notice a small difference in my clothes. And at church this morning, a friend did a double-take and said "you look BEAUTIFUL!" It really made my day.
Hey, has anyone noticed any Atkins "side effects?" I've noticed that my skin is MUCH clearer, and my Roseaca is virtually gone. I've also noticed (not to be graphic guys) that I don't pass gas.
I'm also seeing the re-emerging of the problem I have struggled with every time I do this WOE — serious leg cramps. If I could solve the leg-cramp problem, I'd be soooo happy. I"ve tried calcium, potassium, magnesium, and sugar-free gatorade type packets that you add to water to boost my electrolytes. Any other suggestions?

Re: Induction -- Day SEVEN!!!!!!! One Week Down!

Today I went to the UNLV vs Texas baseball game here in Vegas and had a good time, but it was tough watching my friends shovel peanuts, soda and candy down their throats at the game. No big deal I fought through it without much trouble.

Urban, way to go! Parties and get togethers can be tough! Hoo Ra!

I have noticed that my skin is clearer as well. Haven't noticed my clothes loosening yet~ugh.

Donky, Hoo Ra to you too! Baseball games have got to be so hard. With those vendor people constantly bringing junk food past you and every one around you inhaling it!!! My hat is off to you!!!

Last year in Feb. my hubby and I went to Vegas for a long weekend. Up until that point I was doing really well maintaining what I had lost on Atkins, even though I wasn't losing. My plan for the trip was to stay pretty much on plan. But at the airport my husband said, let's go off and just have a good time. So I caved and have been gaining weight until now. It was the beginning of a downward spiral for me. So I am really proud of both of you guys.
            Here's to us staying strong!!!

              Erin,

Thanks for the sentiments! I appreciate it. I hope you are doing better today also.

It helps me just to know there are other people on Induction too and that I'm not doing it alone. (Matt isn't doing it with me this time, but he eats what I eat for supper.)

How did the Southern Ribs turn out? If you liked them, I may try them once I'm out and about sometime this week.

Yes, I joined the ab challenge, but have been sick ever since so I haven't exercised yet. (It is always something, ay?)

Thanks for the "heads up" on the siggie -- I was delirious and must have forgotten!

Hope you have a GREAT day!

                  Hey Urban!

Yes, it feels like we should celebrate that we've made it through the toughest part of Induction -- the first week! Yeah for us!

Congratulations for resisting temptation at the party!! Did you end up bringing a Diet Rite with you? It was nice they had some legal food for you to eat. Someone was looking out for you, ay?

I've noticed that I haven't had any HEARTBURN this week! Yahoo! When I go off the plan I ususally have heartburn EVERY day! So, that is one of the nice things I'm noticing. Being sick I really haven't looked at my face other than to grimmice at my hair and lack of make-up. I look like a shipwreck and my husband just tells me how cute I am (yeah, right).

That is so motivating that someone is noticing at church! Your weight loss and the glow of your success must be showing!! And it will ONLY GET BETTER! Next weekend it will be another step towards feeling better, looser clothes and feeling more confident. What a way to go! The BEST is YET to COME!!

Hum...I would have suggested calcium or potassium for your cramps, but if they didn't help you I'm not sure what will. I've had some in my foot the past couple days, but the BC pills I'm on are supposed to increase your potassium so I'm afraid to supplement -- the only other alternative I was thinking of was the calcium. Hum...maybe a vet will read this and post something or you could make a separate post and see what info you'll get?

I wish you the best today! Remember: The BEST is YET to COME!

Wow! That's a biggie; especially if they keep asking you if you want some or it won't hurt with just one little bite. Eeek!

Congratulations on doing so well! What a successful weekend you had!
