  • What I learned from previous times on Atkins.....

I thought I'd start a thread about what I learned from being on Atkins multiple times and falling off the wagon. The big one for me is never let myself get very hungry. At the usual meal times I start preparing the meal even if I'm not remotely hungry. I find hunger makes me crave bad things and I choose too much food also. Avoiding hunger keeps me from overeating strangely enough. I find I have to work at getting my carbs and calories up by eating well before getting really hungry. How about you? To me the 'failures' are just a learning experience. What are you bringing to the table this time that you learned from your 'failures'?

Good post. What I've learned is its important to move, move, move. If you don't you get tired, bored and that makes you eat more. Just because something is legal, doesn't mean you have to eat a ton of it.

Great post! I'm guilty of not wanting to eat until DH comes home and then I eat, eat, eat! I have been forcing myself to eat B/L/D and it has been helping with portion sizes.

Oh binsk, getting bored is another kiss of death that I forgot. I need to keep a book close at hand for the evenings.

Sugar Free candy has thrown me off the wagon more times than I can count. STAY AWAY FROM THEM! they only feed your cravings and you never get over it!

I agree with the sugarfree candy! It is definitely my downfall, as is sugar free jello, etc. I find that I can do just fine if I keep all of it out of the house and don't allow myself to cheat! I just make myself a mock danish and that satisfies my cravings.

I really like this thread, because it makes us think about our triggers and anticipate a response.

cream cheese does me in, I am trying to NOT eat any thing thats like a treat cause it may send me over the edge. mind you, since I started taking evening primrose oil and L-Glutamine recently, I have had ZERO cravings, helll half the time I don't even feel that hungry...powerful stuff! I've noticed my ticker is going down again since I started on that. Onederland.....I'm about to knock on your door...finally!

Sugar free candy is my downfall also. Also, that sugar free / low carb ice cream. I LOVE ice cream. Pretty soon weight loss stalls and then I go off course completely.

I haven't had a problem with sugarfree candy, I've had a problem with REAL candy. Sometimes just being in the drugstore or grocery store in front of the huge aisles out front becomes overwhelming and I get shaky; for some reason, it's the number one thing I crave. My advice is--everyone is human, and if you fall off the wagon (god forbid), GET BACK ON. It's so easy to fall of permanently, but if you have strong resolve, you can make it =)

Re: What I learned from previous times on Atkins.....

What I've learned from my previous times on Atkins is that YOU MUST DRINK YOUR WATER AND EAT YOUR VEGGIES! The meat, cheese, and egg thing never worked for me, especially not while dehydrated. Can you say "miserable?" I felt gross all the time, bloated, and had awful stomach cramps even when things would "move." The eating before ravenous lesson has been crucial to me as well.

I scowl openly now at people who say Atkins is "meat meat meat." I see how wrong they were... Meat-meat-meat "Atkins" (because that's not what Atkins is) was miserable for me, and it's no wonder I didn't stay on it for life before. If you do it right, though, Atkins is the best way of eating ever, in my opinion.
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

                        Vigilance, not perfection.

My downfall the first time around was drinking the booze....even though I would stay away from the mixed/high carb drinks, I know that is what stalled me.

I'm on day 6 and have drank 1 of the days, but I told myself NO MORE! I refuse to fail this time around.

What I have learned is that you have to try different things on this WOE. I did Atkins before, but only ate a few items over and over and over. I got tired and bored so now I know I can't eat the same hamburger every day and be happy. Gotta try new stuff!

Planning ahead is helping me this time. I keep thinking of the saying, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail". So if I don't keep legal foods in the house then I have planned to fail and that just isn't an option.
