  • I know this sounds wierd

I know this sounds wierd, but I decided a about two weeks ago to break from atkins to start my exercise routine being that I couldn't seem to get the two going at the same time and I know that I have to have excericise to lose weight. I am going to restart atkins on the 16th of april that is the day after my birthday, I figure I will have my birthday to chow down that back to business!!!! I joined curves yesterday. I weighed in and done all my measurements yesterday, and today is my first workout. I am really excited. I know I am going to get some good and bad comments on this and I welcome them all. I don't expect everyone to agree with me. But, this is what I needed to do. I couldn't my lazy but in the groove of a workout and struggle with atkins at the same time. So, I figured I would cut out atkins first, get in the groove of the workout and then restart atkins. Instead of the other way around because then, I wouldn't be so lazy. And, I would double the benifts of atkins. Maybe it doesn't make sense to some of you, but knowing my body it makes perfect sense to me. I hope you all will still be here to support me, and know that I am truly going to come back to atkins as I say I am.

Re: I know this sounds wierd

I hope you have patience, because it's going to take a bit longer to lose by exercise alone. I want to share my experience. I was FAT. I didn't WANT to exercise, it HURT to exercise, heck it hurt trying to tie my shoes. I got on atkins, I lost 70 lbs in 5 months! I felt GREAT! I had ENERGY. Then I used my new found energy and EXERCISED! I had already made atkins a WOL so it wasn't a struggle. Adding exercise only enhanced my loss! Then I got cocky. I thought, hah! I can stop this atkins thing, eat what i want, maybe just watch it a little and exercise it off...at least maintain right? WRONG. I gained back probably 20 or more pounds and now I am back home. I wasn't ready. I had to become ATKINS again. I exercise infrequently, but the energy I have makes it more and more possible. I just think you are doing it backwards.....DIET AND EXERCISE is what they all tell us, and I guess there might be something to that, ,lol

so my vote is: you do atkins, get it down pat, lose your first 30-40 lbs and then just TRY and stop yourself from exercising!

But, you'll make your own decision and I hope it's the one right for you.

        hey chrisie

i alwayslike doing things my way, and If I'm set that my way is waht works for me, nobody is going to shake me. some people might not think that's wise, and you're certain to make mistakes along the way, but I can respect your decision.

we're all here for you when you need us.

My bday is on sunday, so we're both aries! for the strangest reason this year, I decided I didn't want to cheat. I am sooooooooo excited about the weight loss that amazingly I don't want to stop. it's weird, it's like im actually more focused on my weight than on the bday.

my compromise is to keep the day low-carb. I'm going to eat without limits, anything from the maintenance menu. so, I'm going for an outing with my fiends, taking a yummy roast chicken going to make a vanilla-choc cheesecake with a fresh strawberry topping.... still thinking of what other things tempt me....

anyway, just a rant, hope the ideas help, and hope to see you here soon!
congrats on the excercise! I just found that I actually like swimming!

You started induction about a month ago didn't you? What happened? Did you make it through the 2 weeks cheat free?

everyone has to do whats right for them, no one knows your body like YOU do. so good luck, but make sure you come back and do atkins because you really will lose faster when eating the atkins way and exercising both, but im sure you knew that! good luck!

yes, I made it through inductions cheat free , but I never did excercise ...Yes I do know that there is no other diet out there for me except atkins. I am going to return to it. I am going to lose my weight, I just decided to detour a little, and restart on april 16th is all. I will be cheat free again. I am not really pigging out on sugar now mind you. I'm not eating terrible. Just not eating the best.

Re: I know this sounds wierd

Happy early birthday! I won't be around to wish you a Happy one when it is your b'day. Just a thought for you, (not trying to change your mind or anything....much) lol

If I had a dime for every person on this forum who said "I'm atkins for life, but I'm just gonna have this little planned cheat cause its my birthday...anniversary...dogs birthday...wedding....but REALLY I will just get right back on after and be successful". And then they disappear, falling so far down in their carbage world that they feel they can never recover. Well....I would be a rich girl by now with all those dimes!

There are so many former low carb buddies that their names all blend into one, some are still out there, picking up their PM's from us but not responding to them cause they feel they have failed and aren't strong enough to come back. Embarrased to face the flock so it seems, when all we want for you all is to be successful, thin, healthy, and happy.

So if you do decide to blow it for the next 2 to 3 weeks, ask yourself why you feel you have to do this. There are so many recipes to make that would keep you legal as another poster mentioned in this thread, you can really make your cake and eat a little piece too, just make a decision to make the RIGHT cake!

In any event, whatever you decide, we will all still be here to support you and pick all those disgusting carbage crumbs off of your shirt for you so you can start all over again. But my friend, it is a very slippery slope, and I (and many others) are testimony to that. I would have been at goal a year or more ago had I not thought I could handle it by having an occasional cheat. It doesn't work. I spent all month being good as gold just to gain every single pound I lost as soon as I ate carbage for a day. I disgusted myself!

This is the easiest diet in the world, so easy that I can't even call it a diet, I call it my woe (way of eating) cause I love the food, am never famished, am always satisfied, and I lose weight, can't beat that! As soon as I got my cravings under control (thanks to L-Glutamine) its full steam ahead. I really want this for you too. The best bday gift to myself last year was not cheating, knowing I had done well, and the next day the scale rewarded me with a 2 pound drop. Sensational.

If you need any help staying on track, PM me, or any others you see who offer to lend a hand. The successful ones got there by being strong, and I KNOW you could be just as strong.

If not, well good luck, and Happy Happy Birthday anyway.

Re: I know this sounds wierd

Sorry, didn't mean to get all up on my soapbox, just want you to think about it before you decide to jump ship for awhile. I used to hang on a low carb forum that coddled me and told me "oh its ok, just jump back on, we forgive you" I got so used to it that my cheats didn't seem like such a big deal. I realized I wasn't being helped by this type of affection and sought another board that might give me the kick in the pants I needed from time to time. I found that here. Sure there are lots of people here who will still coddle and comfort me if I fall off and whine, but there are many like 2BIG who will give me a stern look and boot my a$$ around the block with her words of wisdom. I need that more than coddling. I want you to succeed, but won't tell you "oh its ok, go ahead and cheat" cause I don't believe that to be true.
                      Thats all

Re: I know this sounds wierd

well I know it is a "cheat", but I am not really considering it that...I am condering it a I don't know what to call it...I am still doing a lifestyle change for me...it is not like I am saying "hey, I give up, let me just bumb around and be lazy." I just can't manage to get the excercise and diet started at the same time...and your right atkins is so easy. it is pretty easy for me too...but I do suffer from withdrawals from it...so I had to quit it long enough for my to get my exercise routine started and then I am going to restart atkins. I know to some of you, like I said before, it may not make sense. But, it makes sense to me. When, I am losing weight...I will be whoo whoing with the rest of you. I do love Y'all for your help

Re: I know this sounds wierd

I can tell you it doesn't sound insane to me.

it might not be the most straightforward way to do it, but if it's going to get you there, then it works.

meanwhile how has it been going with the excercise? I'm all proud of myself because im swimming every day.

what exc are you doing? how much? are you liking it?

make sure you put in a lot of focus and effort into your excercise these two weeks, to make your "diet sacrifice" worth it.

and prove it to us and yourself you wll be here on april 16!

meanwhile, i'm getting ready for my own Bday. HUGS!!

I joined curves and they have all kind of strength training machines..I love it so far..I am a little sore to be honest...it is hard...but I can do it...thanks for the upper beat thread..I will prove to everyone and myself that I will do this diet...I want to do it...it is a fairly easy diet. I feel better when I am on it. I just was a slacker where the excercise was concerned so thanks for asking about that.

Not that I am trying to change your mind or make you feel like I am I getting on you but just my experience...First time I did Atkins I did not exercise at all during the first 75% of my weight loss..then I finally felt energertic and motivated enough to start walking, I walked 1 1/2-2 miles 3-5 days a week but did not other exercise and made it to goal...I went on maintance joined Curves relaxed my eating some but didn't go totally off plan but just consumed more carbs than I should etc...and I gained weight...while faithfully Curving for 6 months...then frustrated and stress I fell totally off plan. Not totally because of Curves but it didn't help.

So I am back working hard and struggling to workout while losing weight..hard I know...but my goal is 15-20 mins wlking/ running/swimming something 3 times a week.
