  • My Version of Atkins

I have been off and on (mostly ON) Atkins for three years, um, give or take. I consider myself quite the pro now.

Here is what Atkins means to me...

Induction means to eat all the meat and cheese that you can stomach. There is NO limit and the more you eat, the better. You can even throw in a few Olives and Salads. Preferably Ranch Dressing, which is also unlimited because you are being good so far.

Now, after you are on this for TWO WEEKS, you will have lost 14 pounds. That is the rule, right? Isn't that what I remember reading in DANDR? Well, for me it is usually 1/2 pound and I cannot figure out why!

Then after induction, you can start adding in all the marinara sauce you want, as long as you don't eat pasta. So, I remember discovering Spaghetti Squash back in the day and I know that is good. I guess that means I can have low carb cheese cake now! Maybe some Biker Goddess Pizza AND a low carb Iced Coffee. I think that peanut butter is rung Two, right? Ha!

Then, there is that Lauren who keeps talking about drinking water. I am very good about that. I always fill my water bottle up every morning like clockwork. Of course, at the end of the day, I water my plant with the 20 oz left in it. BUT I DID fill it!

Oh, and someone, I forget who, Skye (didn't forget, eh?) keeps asking me about exercising. Well, yes, I did tell them I would do the Exercise Challenge. I am VERY VERY Faithful about signing up for that and sometimes I even exercise. Slug? My EYE! What is their problem?

Oh, yeah, and check out my signature block. Isn't it pretty? I worked hard on that. Isn't that part of Atkins? I maintain it every day!

Get the point? Anybody out there like me? I consider myself a pro, but after three years, I weigh more than I did when I started. I wonder why I lost 25 pounds when I first started, but haven't lost any since then.

Maybe, just Maybe, I need to go back and READ THE BOOK!
    149.8/no weigh/ 119

    1st goal: 139 (earlier weight)
what the rungs mean to me:
    rung 1 - more veggies
rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
    rung 4 - berries, melon
    rung 5 - wine -
    rung 6 - beans, hummus
    rung 7 - other fruits
rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
    Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
    (on to pre-maintenance)

    Re: My Version of Atkins

Wow, that sounds just like me, ha ha ha! I ended up buying the book (again) this time and am actually reading the whole thing. In the past, i had an old copy, not the coveted 2002 edition, which i now have and realized i had never read it before. And now i am actually following the rules for real!

Case in point: we went to Outback Steakhouse last night. My favorite thing to eat is the Alice Springs Chicken. In the past, i would have eaten that on induction, EVEN THOUGH it is made with honey mustard dressing, which is made with sugar. I'd rationalize that i am eating it with a salad instead of the fries (and i'd sneak a few croutons in there!) and that should be fine...

Holy cr*p, what was i thinking??? This time, i passed up on the Alice Springs Chicken (boo-hoo that was hard) and asked how they made their ceasar dressing, to make sure it was Induction friendly (it is fine, by the way!) and i had some grilled chicken on top. Picked out ALL of those yummy croutons, and gulped down about 3 or 4 glasses of water... all while eyeing my daughters mac'n'cheese longingly.

So this time i am serious... and not kidding myself. Thanks for posting that, Shannon! That was a good one...

From one slow loser to another...hang in there! Congrats on that 1 1/2 pounds!

And, yes, you do have a pretty siggy

I think that peanut butter is rung Two, right? Ha!
Psst.....peanut butter is from peanuts which are legumes of which are on the OWL rung number 6. You might try finding Almond butter once you get to the nut run, #3....just thought I'd share that with you because I want you to succeed on your journey

I hear you guys! I think, after coming up with my own induction plan, I am probably taking in over 50 carbs! Ha!

And you should hear me while at myself in my head when I don't lose. Waa, the diet doesn't work, it only works when you are 27. It only works the first time you try it. It only works when you live in Kansas and it is cold out.

Great post! Love your sense of humor.

My favorite past self-made induction diet was tuna salad and a Miller Lite 6-pack, once per day, with about 2 liters strong coffee with sweetener for breakfast and 6-pack diet cokes during the day. Lasted about a week before my body reacted violently.

As you can see from my new button, I am only one day cheat free. I had a little accident waiting for my new book to arrive. It was only a very minor accident and I think that I will fully recover from it quickly, but I had to be honest with myself and start again.
