Re: I am so very ashamed

Wow, Joy, you look absolutely gorgeous (and all the old members can tell you why that's not just a come-on!). If you've got any good tips for me on stopping smoking, I'd love 'em. And, yes, 2Big, I will check out that stop smoking thread.

And hey, walking I CAN do -- gladly.

By the way, Joy, thanks for having "clean it all up: don't sub one addiction for another" in your sig. It's certainly timely, in my case. And, thanks, 2Big, for saying it in the first place!

Re: I am so very ashamed

Chris, when I got my head right to come back to Atkins my second go around, I kept telling myself "It's only 2 weeks, Anybody can do it for 2 weeks". (Not that the diet is for 2 weeks, but the detox is basically 2 weeks). So, I did it.

When I started thinking about quitting smoking, another member Sweet_Sadie had a link to www.whyquit.com and I went there and read about quitting smoking, although I've never joined. On that site, it said that detoxing from the cigs took 72 hours and that in just 2 weeks one would be quit. So, I started telling myself "It's only 2 weeks, Anybody can do it for 2 weeks" and I talked myself around the fact that I had done induction for two weeks and made it and was strong and it really wasn't all that bad.

So, I picked a date and just quit. I kept telling myself only 72 hours. I kept telling myself I can do this. And comparing it to my induction period. Honestly, I didn't have THAT hard a time quitting the nicotine. I will tell you, (and if you find the non smoking thread, you can read about it there) that when you quit smoking the SUGAR cravings are harder than the want of a cigarette. I've done a lot of reading about why the body feels that way...I seem to do okay if I can scientifically explain why I have a craving.

Anyway, that's the short version of it...but i'd be happy to discuss it further with you.

I can say this....I wish I'd done it sooner. AND it probably wouldn't have made it any worse to quit smoking and carbs at the same time...although the induction would probably be harder. ORRRR where induction for me wasn't that hard of a deal...that was probably because I was smoking (and causing the liver to release glucose, having an insulin response, etc.) that if you quit smoking you might experience an induction like a non-smoker would. Does that make sense??

Oh, and thank you so much for the compliment!

Seriously, there's no need to feel shame. After all, this is the STAC forum. We've ALL fallen down at least once, if not more. You just realize your mistakes and watch for them the next time around.

Hi Chris! So sorry to hear about your Mother and your extra health problems.
I am glad you have decided to get back to our ADBB family/support network and to the WOE!

Good luck on kicking the ciggie habit too!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
