  • If I can do it so can you. DONT GIVE IN!

Today on our way home from shopping (see details in muh journal)
DH went through the McDonalds drive through, and had a chicken sandwich and fries and a root beer right in front of me.
Then, further down the road, he stopped at a Krispy Kreme drive through for him and our roomies and got a dozen donuts, which yours truley had to hold in her lap the entire drive home.
And you know what? I didn't waver! I can't say it wasn't cruel and unusual punishment, because I love mcdonalds fries, and although i'm not a donut eater(I can probably count the number of donuts i've had in my life on one hand) the sweet smell was driving me insane. So it wasn't -easy-, but I didn't even think of cheating. Having the things I can't have that I like right in front of me was hard, but I never once thought of actually putting it in my mouth.
I've only been back about 6 days, so you don't have to be a veteran to have willpower. I didn't even know I HAD willpower until last night when the same thing happened, and my roommates were taunting me with pie. Sure, i'd like to be able to have sweet things that I enjoy, but i'd also -like- to be able to eat all I want and never gain a pound. It just ain't gonna work that way!
SO keep on trekkin and don't give in. Its hard, but think about the moment right after you put a donut in your mouth. Personally, i'd feel completely disapointed and angry at myself, and right now i'm going on a week of cheat free bliss, and 6 lbs gone. I dont want to give that up!

    Way to go Kib,
It sounds like quiet a weekend of smells and oh I can only imagine. Yesterday I was in a store I am unfamiliar with, and I had to get to the back, and was in produce and kept walking, right into the bakery with the longest set of displays...I was fine, but I had my teenager with me was on day 7 and struggling...I kept saying, "head down, keep moving, keep moving!!!!"
I can relate just a touch...thankgoodness, we had nothing in the car that smelled like McD's fries..

Okay, DH had to eat, so I'll allow the McD's, but were the donuts really necessary, or was that just to tease you? And the roomies taunting you with pie isn't really funny, either. You need to explain to these people that this is important to you, that it isn't a game, and you'd really appreciate their support.

Of course, they're allowed their donuts and pie, and whatever -- but, they don't have to throw it in your face that they can have them and you can't. You really should take steps to see that this doesn't become a regular game with them.

Hi Kib, These donuts brought back memories. Hope you don't mind I share my ''donut story'' here with you.

You are so strong, even if you don't like donuts. I love them, and even when I'm not dieting and trying to decide on what my snack would be, I don't go near donuts. In the late 70's when I was a checker for a large grocery chain, we had a killer bakery. I could (okay, I did) eat 6-12 a day with no problem. Lots of others there were eating that many too. And I knew just how to sneak them after I paid for them--I'd take a few at a time into the bathroom stall in our breakroom--now that's gross, but anything to eat several donuts. At this time, I had just married (to my ex-husband, not the one I have now). Someone gave us a Fry Baby deep fryer. I am a terrific baker, and so donut making became a daily hobby. I soared from 150 to 180 in a few months. However, no one had to know if and when I was eating donuts, and I didn't have to eat them in a stall at work. LOL

So reading your post, I see you are extremely strong at this point, but I do not get how some people could do that to someone who is trying so hard. I know one thing. If I were you, the next time I had to have donuts on my lap, as I got out of the car, I'd quickly be "oops, tripping" and that darn flimsy box (or bag would dump) would open up and spill---all the donuts would be hitting the ground. I know that sounds cruel and a waist of money. Naw, donuts are cheaper than all the things that come along with not staying on plan. And they would be dropped again and again until I didn't have to be trusted with holding the donuts. That's how weak I am. Keep being strong!!
