  • Oil Concern

Hi all, I have a question that is bothering me. I have been cooking my foods in Soybean oil. I went to buy more oil and re-checked out my DANDR to see which one was preferred. While looking through the pages I noticed it says "All other vegetable oils are allowed, the best being canola, walnut, soybean, grapeseed, sesame, sunflower and safflower oils, especially if labeled cold-pressed or expeller-pressed." NOW here is the part that bothered me. The very next sentence says "Do not cook polyunsaturated oils, such as corn, soybean and sunflower oil, at high temperatures or allow to brown or smoke." Everytime I cook in the oil I have cooked at high temperatures! What does this do??

    Re: Oil Concern

I found a very complex answer on the web, but basically, it turns into a transfat, or something like a transfat. Transfats are very bad for you.

I usually just use olive oil and/or butter.

See, learn something new daily! There is nothing like real butter... mmmMMMM. So good. And good for you! I cringe when I think of the years we used margarine because I thought it was better for you!

Research? Or it is big companies paying big bucks to have their products pushed? Something to think about. All the more reason to go with whole foods and not processed stuff or boxed stuff...

          Just my 2 cents.

This is interesting. Thanks. I came across something on the Internet that said how terrible Canola oil is for everyone, and went into details. So I bought one bottle of another type of oil simply because it horrified me. I then came to my senses, or at least I hope I did , and bought canola oil again. It's hard to know who to believe sometimes. And same with coffee in general; good for us, bad for us, good for us, bad for us...
