Re: Taking a break from the this WOE and ADBB.
"think a bit about what causes my ups and downs with eating. I have never really wanted to look at it like an obsession, but I truely think thats what it is...an obsession with food/carbs. A strong addiction I never really recognized I had."
I hope you find some comfort from knowing that it could have been me, or many of us on here who might have written that.
Very few people on these boards just said to themselves one day "Right from now I am on Atkins" and never cheated" (although there are SOME and those have often been the Biggest Losers) - the majority have slipped now and again, some have never gone more than a month, some no more than 2 weeks.
So, yes, the majority of us have had to battle our addictions, and like you come to terms with the fact that we were, in fact, addicted. I have a degree in psychology so can you imagine how hard it is for me to face the fact that I cannot even win every battle with myself to eat chocolate? It all seems so incredibly simple on paper, doesn't it - "just" give up refined carbs. So easy! But we are not pieces of paper - we aren't even rational! We are not Mr Spock on Star Trek. We are above all EMOTIONAL that is what makes us human.
This is day 3 for me. And I am already feeling better. Come on, babes, stick with me! Let's fight this together.
I just heard on the radio that some shipwrecked people swam to an oil rig and climbed up it to safety. Can you imagine how hard that must have been? If they can do this, surely the likes of us can manage to prevent ourselves from putting sugar and flour in our mouths?
OK so giving up carbs is our Mount Evererest, its the North Pole, but humans have conquered both!
