  • Rapid weight loss

I started Atkins again on Jan 2nd. The first time I did it was in 2003 and I lost 47 pounds in just under 5 months. I did great maintaining but when I got pregnant I went off the plan. With my daughter almost one (and me still breastfeeding) I decided that it was time to lose the 17 pounds I had been carrying with me.

So I started a clean induction and in the past 5 days I have lost six pounds. I am totally amazed! I know I should not be weighing myself yet but my husband kept saying how I look like I had lost weight so I thought I would weigh myself and see. I will measure on Tuesday and not before then as I know this is a much more accurate way of controlling my weight.

My question is - I have 8 or 9 days left of induction and only 11 pounds to lose. Do I complete induction or start OWL now? Before I could eat 40-50 carbs a day and maintain my weight but now I excersise more so I am assuming I will be able to eat more. I don't know if pregnancy does anything to your metabolism (it seems to affect every other area of your body )

I'd really appreciate any advice - thanks so much!

    Re: Rapid weight loss

It's actually not a great idea to weigh until after induction is over. Each day your body fluctuates--fluids, hormones, the weight of the food you eat, etc. Much of the weight you lose quickly is water weight. Keep going with induction, and do not weigh yourself again until it's over--that will give you an accurate estimate as to how much you've REALLY lost.

Also make sure you weigh first thing in the morning, after you go to the bathroom, naked as a jaybird. Throughout the day, our bodies swell, retain water, muscles will retain water to repair themselves after exercise, our bodies carry the weight of the water/foods we've consumed, and if you hop on the scale at say, 2pm, it won't be an accurate reading.

Keep going, and wait your 14 days!

Hi Neihu. I always lose quite a bit when I do induction too. Everyone is differant. But if you are still nursing, you will probaby lose quite quickly, as your body uses more of what you eat to produce the milk. Best of luck to you on your Atkins readventure!
