  • Friday Check in

Hey STACers, and all the NEWBIES...It's friday...I was exercising this morning thinking of that "newbie rush" that comes at the end of the first week, when we get into ketosis and the energy is finally coming, and we start to perk up and feel fantastic...It's like totally unbelievable that we could feel soooo good!!!
We clean out closets and kitchens and paint rooms...We are not as hungry and we are almost untouchable!!!!

Deep down we are pleased we have found control again. Our mood is soaring and then we STEP ON THE SCALES...one of two things happen, we either feel elated or disappointed! The pounds lost is either more or less than expected.

I want to encourage you here. I've been here going on 8 months. I came to loose weight and do all things Atkins. But the farther along I got, I realized how important it is to create habits, routines and a lifestyle, rather than shoot LOW and JUST GO FOR WEIGHT LOSS. You know and I know, if we don't create a way of living, even tho Atkins works, we are going to GAIN IT ALL BACK AGAIN...The trick isn't short term behavior modification, it's long term completely new behaviors we can live by...

From the get go Sillygirl say, don't worry about the weight, it will melt off, it will come off, it will soon be gone, just focus on what you are doing...She was right...

Aim higher than pounds lost, look at the life you are gaining! Create reasonable habits you can maintain. I exercised an hour today, built up over time, I could no more have done what I did today other than to build it up over time.

People FACTOR TIME AND PATIENCE INTO THIS WHOLE PROCESS....Or you will quit out of frustration and impatience. It can only go as fast as your body allows weight loss to go...Work with your bodies! They know better than we do!

    Re: Friday Check in

Awesome post Jess! It's really sad to see some people who are doing well on the plan (no cravings, improved attitude and energy, regular exercise) who think they are "failing" because they haven't lost X amount of weight in Y amount of time. Atkins is NOT about weight loss! Atkins is about living in a healthy way for THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. Even if I never lost another pound, I would stick with Atkins. What other WOL is going to give me energy, control over cravings, and a positive outlook? What other plan is going to set me free from mood swings, blood sugar spikes, and migraines? None. Atkins works SO well for me and my body. It's important to look at THE BIG PICTURE with Atkins. The weight loss is just a pleasant bonus!

Today is a good day, I can feel it. I'm wearing some size 12s that were TIGHT on me a few weeks ago, and now I have to wear them with a belt today! I've got great foods planned, a killer workout, and I'm looking forward to spending a nice evening with Geoff. The weather is beautiful so I think a long walk is in order!

    Have a great day, STACers!

You said it !!!!!! The first two times I did Atkins it was all about weight...not this time around. Im all about being thinner and all but I really need to just be HEALTHY!! Im refusing to look at the scale ( which hasnt been that bad ) or to put my Goal weight in my siggy because I dont want to think about how much I have to lose, I want to be inspired by whats important my health and the happyness of my family!!

          Re: Friday Check in

Yes, I tend to think about he bigger picture more than the day by day progress. It seems those of us who get on and then off and then on and again with this WOE, tend to come and get back on when there is something on the horizon....a wedding, the summer, vacation, etc. But if you think about it, there is ALWAYS something to be thinner for, isn't there? There's always spring after the holidays, then summer, there's always events and things we want to look our best for, maybe people we want to see that we haven't seen in a long time. So, since there is always things to prepare for, we may as well just start and keep going.

If I have something going on, like a vacation or special occasion I want a certain dress for, then I get on top of things hardcore and then find myself with all of those standards and expectations on myself--why am I not losing weight fast enough? Then the bad thoughts set in: well screw it, I already ran out of time to lose weight by X day, I may as well go off plan a bit.

It boils down to doing this for health, for life. It's a good point you brought up, Jess.

            Beautiful post!

Once thing I've learned from falling off the Atkins wagon repeatedly, that we have to be mindful of the other benefits of this WOE to keep us going when the scale disappoints us. Otherwise, we quit out of frusteration.
If only I stuck to it the first time, I'd have been at goal years ago.
For me, it is the control over cravings, that food no longer controls me, I control it. I remember having to grab a chocolate candy bar every time I stood in line at the grocery store. Had to have bread with dinner. Continued gorging when I was already full, at every meal. This is hard to explain, but I felt helpless and didn't understand why. Now I know.

Yes!! I just started on Tuesday, and I never expected to feel like this. It's exactly as you said. I just finished cleaning up my basement laundry room! It's been a disaster for years and all of sudden I felt like I had to get in there and fix it up. I threw out lots of junk, did lots of laundry, and vacuumed. And then I came upstairs and saw your post! LOL.

It's not just a "newbie rush" though, is it? Will it last?

Oh I still have energy all right! But I put it towards exercise and not towards cleaning. There's no WOL in the world that would make me want to clean my house.

The NEWBIE rush last and I did experience a short dip and boredom, so I just revved it back up and went after another challenge...the energy is there consistenly...after a while you just LIVE AT A WHOLE NEW LEVEL! and it feels so great!
I love the good feelings here today...I never felt them on Weight Watchers or Body for Life...I was always craving something...and Like Juli I used most of my energy for exercise not cleaning everhting out...
But I did do some frenetic cleaning....

Hi folks, long time no update!

I've been fully back on plan since saturday and boy does it feel good! Had a bit of a rough go of it with the school stress and the boy stress but now I'm back on track. Visiting a friend for a couple of weeks to get me out of the stress zone, and i've been working hard, eating well, and sleeping well. Having fun too, which is always nice!

So, that's my update. I've even been walking every day (the weather is great here!) to add to the yays.
