  • How Heavy is TOO heavy to run?

I was just wondering...because I do have it as one of my goals to one day run at least 1 marathon...it might not be a huge one and it might be many years away...but I just want to be able to say I done it...

I am 363 as of this morning...I put on alot of water this week I am guessing...because I done nothing wrong with my diet...anyways...I was wondering if anyone might have any ideas...I am really chompin at the bit, lol

I have been walking 1 mile 5 days a week and getting it done between 25 and 30 minutes...I know that's pretty slow...but I started a week ago today...I am really workin hard on it and part of it is up hill some...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I wish I had some advice! I would love to start running, but I'm a little leery myself. I think you're starting off great though! Slowly building up to being able to walk a mile quicker will help to build your stamina and endurance which should help you to start being able to jog/run. I'm not sure there is a "too big" to run; as long as your Dr. oks it and you don't overdo it!!

    Good luck!!

Re: How Heavy is TOO heavy to run?

Haha. I'm not sure how to answer this one. I've just started running every day. I haven't been able to get a full mile in yet. I walk/run 2 miles. I never liked running in the Army, but I was in the best physical shape I have been in due to that. Then I see Julie, Jess and Joy (wow..... JJJ ) and they run, 5 miles, 6 miles, 8 miles!! I'm like dang.......how do they do it!! I guess kinda jog a bit ladies......at least a few minutes, cool down brisk walk, run again several minutes, cool down, brisk walk, until you know you have your full mile in. Like I said, I'm no expert at all. For all I know, that maybe harder on you. I'm starting to kick my exercise regime way up. I've been lazy too long, and I still want to keep losing so.........Ask those 3 three ladies Outback Jess, Validrouge, Julirama and they'd be much better info sources!

      Sorry

I'm not sure about the heavy question. I think that would be an individual kinda thing, but I just wanted to post this. I got it many moons ago from someone (Brook I think) and thought it might help. I've never actually tried it because I really enjoy walking over running, but maybe you can use it. It's the Couch-to-5K running plan.

When you do your marathon you will not be 363lbs. The training that is involved will mean that you will burn alot of that weight off.

I agree with a previous poster. Take a look at the couch to 5k training programmes.

I am like you, I always said that I was going to the the London Marathon (preferably before I am 40) and in the last 6 months I have ran in 6 half marathons. I will definitely get there!

          Good luck.

Re: How Heavy is TOO heavy to run?

I used the couch to 5K program as a guideline so to speak. Basically I just started running whatever I could. That seriously meant SECONDS of running, not minutes and FEET not miles. In your walk you are already doing, jog for whatever you can...you'll be SERIOUSLY out of breath feel like you're going to throw up or whatever LOL, but then walk for 3 or 4 or 5 minutes until you get your composure back and then do it again. In just a couple weeks you'll find that you can run for longer or maybe it doesn't take as much walking to recover your breath from your short burst of running.

I NEVER in my wildest dreams thought I would run. EVER. I'm still kind of freaked out that I actually LIKE running. LOL

I'm no medical expert, but I would think that as long as you have a really good bra and shoes, you could start small, like Joy said, seconds and feet of running, and work up from there.

Re: How Heavy is TOO heavy to run?

Ditto Joy's advice! I started out doing distance intervals in January, walk .1, run .1 etc. and at first I thought I was going to die--it was so exhausting! But I kept going, kept improving little by little, until I started to see a big improvement. At first I never thought I'd be able to run a full mile even...it's amazing to see how far I've come in a short while. 2 months ago I couldn't run a mile, and 2 DAYS AGO I ran 8 miles.

No matter how frustrating or tough it seems, stick with it. Run time or distance intervals like Joy said, and just keep on going!

The Bra part is what gets me, even wearing 2 sports bras, it hurts my breasts to run, especially towards my period. All I can think is that the bouncing will make them even droopier!! It looks pretty silly running with your arms across your chest holding them up!!!
