    Re: Saturday check in

tmn--have you used stevia? It is usually sold in health food stores and marketed as a supplement, not a sweetener. It is a plant extract, and usually works well for most people. It is calorie and carb-free. Make sure you buy either the extract (sold in a bottle with a dropper) or the granulated packets. The extract is the best choice, IMO, because the packets contain inulin, a plant fiber that can cause intestinal distress. Just make sure you DON'T buy stevia syrup, as that has corn syrup added.

As for the honey, it has just as much sugar as cane sugar. How much is a little? 1 tablespoon of honey has 17g sugar. It's the same as putting granulated sugar on whatever you're eating. If you are having problems with sweeteners (like cravings) then using honey is NOT a good option. If you have cravings, eliminate artifical sweeteners and honey completely.

    SATURDAY--
Well I am down 1/2 pound and 1.5 inches this week. I was hoping for more, but I've been lucky for the past month, losing pounds and inches every single week. Not much planned today--probably some cleaning, and my boyfriend and I are going on a long walk. Later when he goes to work, I'm heading out to the gym to do some strength training and maybe some running.

    Have a great day, all!

        Happy Saturday all!!
I just dropped my car off to the shop so I will be on here while stranded

Terry and Sandy - the TAPE MESURE GRR!! I know what you mean. I almost burned the stupid thing it was driving me nuts fumbling with it LOL
I have to battle with the little sucker tomorrow for Atkins Attack reporting though

For you cheaters , don't sweat it! Its when you get all down on yourself and say to yourself, "I have failed, or I am a failure" that you just abandon your efforts all together and go back to your old way of eating, or you can use positive reinforcement and say "I am human and will brush this silly slip up under the rug and move on, becuse If I stay with it, I WILL lose this weight and if not, I won't". Its as simple as that, retrain yourself how to talk to yourself and you'll be on your way, don't get bummed, smile and eat a hard boiled egg!

I can't WAIT To weigh myself June 15th! (thanks for the scale withdrawls HG)

Have a great saturday all! I have no plans but some cleaning and laundry and relaxing.

          Good morning everybody!
Looks like I'm not the only one that slipped off the track a little yesterday. But to make up for it, I am starting today going even stricter. I am also taking the diet soda away. I'm sure that has been stalling me. Well I'm off to work now. I hope everybody has a great day!!

Yep, I've tried every sugar substitute out there. Some cause the asthma problems faster than others. The one that is the least problematic is Equal but it's still bad enough for me to want to avoid it. Plus it causes other issues to flair up that I really have to avoid. As a note, some products uses birch tree sugars which, of all things, I'm allergic to. Totally frustrating.

I hear you on the sugar content of honey. I know, it's so risky to use. I've researched this and pondered and considered the options. Asthma medication is SO damn hard on the body that I do NOT want to use that stuff at all. My God, I was so miserable with that crap in my system. And the asthma is simply reactions to certain things I can avoid. So as much as I don't want to use even honey for a sweetner, I finally tried it last night because it seems to be the best option for me.

At the very least, honey has some decent properties to it you don't find in sugar. (I know, a little rationalization going on... Works great as an antiseptic and cough medicine...) And the situation last night was more "comfort food" mode than cravings. The amount I put in was, oh gosh, about 1/8 teaspoon?? Like one big drop of honey. I can't even say I really tasted the sweetness. (Time to make two mock danishes, one with honey and one without, and do a taste comparison.) Anyway, no cravings otherwise. Just a lot on my mind and heart and those stupid Dairy Queen commercials were not helping at all since they were a huge source of comfort food for me in the past.

I'll just have to ride another five miles on the bike or do 500 more crunches to burn off that darn honey if I do use it.

Way to go on your own loss! Yours is one of those I check on for inspiration. Too cool.

Terry I am sorry you have so much weighing on you

The instant I was done with my pizza I knew I would move on. Before, I would have said "to heck with this" and scarfed down all the desserts in the house and continued on a carb binge without looking back. This time feels like the first time, when I was successful. I can slip up, and know that I will move on and it will be OK!

The really strange thing is, for months I've had this annoying clogged throat feeling, always having to clear it. Last night, about 20 minutes after eating that pizza, I started clearing my throat over and over again. Then it hit me, I haven't done ANY of that in a MONTH. So that little tidbit combined with the fact that some beers trigger an allergic response (itching, sneezing, stuffy nose) I think I must be slightly allergic to some wheat or something It was just an "AHA" moment when I realized that the throat clogginess started back up after eating pizza crust. Maybe that knowledge will help me in the future to stay away from that stuff.

Well I had to come back and report this morning.. I decided to try those "capris" on again.. the ones that I couldn't even get up my thighs 5 weeks ago.. I got them ALL the way up to my waist! WOO HOOO.. Now don't get too excited.. I can't walk around in them...but they are up.. I was running around the house showing off.. My husband said.. Umm Sandy you can't wear those out.. I said I know..but you don't understand.. 5 weeks ago I couldn't them half way up my thighs! I am so happy!

Now my biggest complaint is.. some people can drop dress sizes at 10lbs of loss...I always seem to need like 30...UGH... Those capris are one size down I wore them last summer...

Boy, did I have some thoughts running through the mind last night, like what's the point, it may all be for nothing anyway, so give it up. whew, canNOT even go there! Even though I used a dab of honey in the mock danishes, it was still a huge victory avoiding some mongo Dairy Queen dessert!

Something just came to mind. "...the land of milk and honey..." (I'm listening...)

OH OH!! I hear that!! It's crazy, isn't it?! Finally pinpointing the cause of certain symptoms! Man, I went through that BIG time after learning I was allergic to birch trees and then later on finding out that some of these sugar substitutes uses birch tree sugars!! I quit eating it and after three or four days, my asthma symptoms went away! That's when I quit eating the sugar subs completely and threw away the ghastly asthma medicines. Another week later, and holy smokes, was I feeling great! Now I've been trying very occasioanl use of Splenda but it's just not working for me...again!... grrr!...

You know, as I recall all that and the grief it caused me on the job and at home, an occasional dab of honey seems so right for me. Just have to keep it under very, very tight control.

That totally rocks, Sandy! I had the same with my capris!! Couldn't get them over the butt, then over the butt but not buttoned, then buttoned but very tight. Now they're almost perfect! Just in time for summer!

I've found I have 20 pounds between sizes. But from what I've been reading on here, working out can really change that. Sounds like the more the muscle-to-fat ratio changes, the less the pounds need to be to get into those little sizes. So if you aren't already, start doing crunches! LOL!!!

                            Re: Saturday check in

Hey, everyone. I've been gone for about a week. It's really crazy at school this time of year. We have portfolios and meetings and scheduling and field trips and... Well, anyway, I haven't had time to even breath let alone anything else. I've missed everyone here and I'm very happy to be back! Sounds like everyone has been very busy while I was gone.

I did lose some more weight. I made the Veggie Challenge, but didn't ever get make to the boards to let anyone know! Good thing is that getting the veggie carbs in became a habit, and that's very good!

I did cheat a little bit late this week - BUT it was on fruit and starchy veggies, not on bread or pasta or anything really terrible like that. Not a good thing, but not a terrible thing, either.

Sandy - that's awesome about the capri's! Did you get to see the Queen? I know Jamestown is a little distance from you, but wasn't sure exactly how far.

Terry - My grandmother was a juvenile diabetic and couldn't use any artificial sweeteners either. It was hard for her. I can try and find out from my dad what she may have done instead.

Hope everyone enjoys their day. It's cloudy and cool here. But will be good for a walk anyway!

Hope everyone enjoys their day. It's cloudy and cool here. But will be good for a walk anyway!
Congrats Obkbbby on meeting your Veggie Challenge.. You know I don't freak out over little cheats... Like the little bit of fruit I had at my daughters Competition.. or a little bit of the bread.. I was starving and didn't have a lot of choices.. To me it would be eating sugar as in Chocolate.. or a snack cake..that would do me in...

I live in James City County/Williamsburg which is where Jamestown is.. But NO I avoided the whole area...I live more in the country part..away from it all.. I saw her on tv in the nice comfort of my home..lol Next weekend is the weekend to stay away too.. Jamestown is having 3 days of celebrations... President is coming too.. I am not going anywhere..lol

Sandy – Wah! I want to go see spiderman 3 so bad but haven’t got a chance yet…How on earth did you resist real movie butter popcorn? We have gone to the movies 2 times since atkins and barely made it without snatching someone’s tub!

All cheaters – Don’t feel too bad. I cheated yesterday too…I had a stinking peanut butter cup and two cookies like 15 mins before I left work. It wasn’t even that good! Ok and a banana right after that and washed it all down with a diet dr pepper. I think that was a binge not just a cheat. Oh well…I got back on track at dinner and today is good so far…I know all the candy, cookies, and fruit are just a few cubes away…we have a snack cube now but I shall not pass by it. I will just sit here and eat my hot pumpkin mess and be happy I am so close to my goal weight and not still 190. I am starting my slim in 6 on Monday so maybe that will break my urge to cheat and the wooshie fairy will stop by.

BTW – Who has a link to the eagle cam? That sounds too cool!

                                Happy Saturday All!
