  • How often do you...???

    Hi all,

How often do you weigh and/or measure yourselves? I just restarted today after being off plan x 6 months or so. This go around, however, I have put the scale away, and also have not measured myself because I have found I become obsessed and want to check every day, and then beat myself up if I didn't lose every SINGLE time. What do you guys use as a reasonable amount of time between which to weigh/measure?

i need help with this also...i tend to weigh everyday and get totally wrapped up in whatever the number on the scale is. i am thinking that once a week for weighing is my goal...however, if i find that i can't do it, i'm putting the scale away. and i'm going to measure every two weeks...that's what one of the stickies suggests so i'm going to do that. best of luck to you!

Thanks! Two weeks sounds good to me. Like you, I get sooo wrapped up in the number on the scale. Then, if I have lost a pound a day for 4 days during Induction, I then expect to continue to lose a pound a day and become depressed when I don't. I also have a bad habit of 'plotting' out what I should weigh by what date, and if I am off the (usually unattainable) mark, I get disgusted and want to quit. ARRGH!

I weigh myself every single day.. once in the morning and once at night. Some people say it's bad, some people don't care, I find it a good way to make sure things aren't getting out of control. If you are on induction, there is probably no need to weigh yourself every day because you almost certainly loosing weight but personally I think that when you are transitioning out of induction and into other phases it's important to try to find out the amount of carbs you can eat without gaining weight.

            Re: How often do you...???

For me my official weigh and measure day is Monday. For the measurements I stick to this religiously and so far every week since I started (six weeks ago) I've been rewarded! As for the evil scales, I'm afraid I tend to step on the scales prob every morning.
But its only the result I see on a Monday morning that I a) log here or in fitday or b) tell my bf about (who is my chief supporter and cheerleader.)

I'd say pick a day per week that works for you. I deliberatly chose Monday because weekends have always been my problem time. I'd do great all week then reward myself and go mad at weekends. By having weigh day on Monday morning, I am so not going to ruin all my hard works during the week so that the scales dont reward me!

            Good luck!

I am bad...and I weigh every single day... I am a scaleaholic... I don't let the numbers upset me.. But when they are down it makes me happy

I am measuring once a month on the 1st.. I didn't take my measurements for the first time until 2 weeks into the program...But I have had inches lost...

I weigh every day or more and having been driving myself crazy! I would say to anyone on induction and weighing everyday don't do it - because now you think you're fine with the numbers not being what you want - but I've not lost for nearly a month and it is getting me down - I wish I'd got out of bad habits early.

I'm have vowed not to weigh until June 15th...but it is the hardest thing for me.

                    Re: How often do you...???

I usually weigh only every Sunday but lately have been sneaking on the scale on Tues or Wed as well....I really need to stop that. I am like you OP in that I get really upset with myself if there isn't a loss or it's up a lb. And I also set dates by which I want to be "xx" weight and when I don't get there - woooowheee I'm mad! So I am going to try to stick to my Sundays. Actually I'd LOVE to not weigh in for three weeks. I'd love to see if I could do it.

I measure once a week usually and I don't get tempted to do it more often than that because I find struggling with that darn measuring tape is harder than stepping on the scale lol!

Once a week sounds like a reasonable goal....it is hard to not get on the scale, I had to literally put it in the closet. That is the only way I can stop attaching unrealistic expectations to my weight loss which only puts more pressure on and winds up making the whole thing unmanageable. Does anyone not measure but just go by how clothes fit? I feel like I can never really get accurate measurements (ie, did I just pull the tape measure tighter here, am I in the right spot here, etc)

If you're on induction, wait until your 14 days are up to weigh!

I weigh usually once a week, but it seems lately I've been stepping on the scale more. It's like a fun game for me, and I don't know why I've been doing it. But what I've found is that "a watched pot never boils" and a watched scale never lowers! Once a week is plenty for me.

I measure once a week nowadays, too. When I first started I DID NOT take measurements, and boy, DO I REGRET THAT!!! Take measurements now, and I would say to take them every couple of weeks or perhaps every month at the very least. I'm in a 4th of July challenge and so I measure weekly, which is AWESOME as you go further in the plan. I have some weeks where the scale shows no loss, but I lose inches--this means I've exchanged nasty fat for sexy lean muscle!

Thats my problem. I told my husband I need to draw around the area I've measured with a sharpie marker so I will know where I measured each time. I never know if I've done it in the same place.

and sadly I weigh everyday but luckily even with the lack of weight loss I've had I feel good enough and see people having good enough results to stick with it.

Plus there is absolutely nothing I feel I am missing. Luckily I didn't have a sweet tooth before.

I weigh every day and then the third week you can start averageing your weight to see what your weight is really for the week and then subtract that each week from last weeks. YOu add all your weights for that week together and divide by seven and that is your average for the week and then you subtract each week from the week before, really gives you an accurate idea. If you weight less times, just add them up and divide by the amount of days you weighed in. I got that idea from the carb addict book I do believe that I read over twelve years ago and just never forgot that one tip . It really works for me, I am going to start my averaging this week.
You can have high days and low days and if you weigh in once a week and one week is a low day and next week is a high day, you can get discouraged and thing you did not lose or even gain. when you weigh every day you start to see a pattern too, that is uniguely yours and you do not panic after a while when the weight goes up for a day because you get used to your bodies weight loss patterns. I usually see the scale go up as much as two pounds before I see a little whoosh.
You have to decide what is best for you, it is really a personal thing, people feel very strongly about how often they weigh in. Just go with what feels right to you and what you think would benefit you most !

Now that is an interesting concept, and makes a lot of sense....that helps you to see that even if you gain a bit, you are overall still losing....I like that! I am staying off the scale completely until day 14, but that is a good strategy afterwards! Thx!
