    Dr. Atkins just barely mentions this in DANDR, but in his VitaNutrient Solution book he talks about using L-Glutamine for cravings. I've given this a shot...and it WORKS! L-Glutamine is an amino acid. You can get it in pill form, but the best way to use it is in powder form. Get it at GNC or other vitamin shop.

    "When a sugar urge emerges, take 1-2 grams of L-glutamine, preferably with some heavy cream and just a touch of nonsugar sweetener. The immediate desire to eat something sweet will pass." Dr. Atkins' Vita-Nutrient Solution, page 169.

      way to hold out! you are going to have GREAT results...i will be there with you weighing in next monday!!! cross our fingers and hope for that loss! and wow, what a goal weight reward...lol..for my reward (hopefully my goal date of august 27th) i am just going to go out before my fiance comes home and get some new tight fitting clothes and go tanning and get my hair done..maybe even get a manicure!

        good girl!! that sounds like a great plan...and your fiance will be so excited to see you again, looking hot!!! i am getting a mani/pedi every week that i don't cheat....so far, i have been on one week and didn't cheat, so voila, as of yesterday i had freshy scrubbed and polished hands and feet!!

        i am off to try to go for a long, relaxing walk. alaska i think your cravings from yesterday have transferred through the air to me, and now i am having them!! remind me, what did we tell you yesterday to encourage you not to cheat???!! ha!! i have had some serious cravings this afternoon, worse than all week, i think b/c there is nowhere i have to be and nothign i HAVE to do. i caved and made dom's cheesecake, but only made 1/4 of the recipe so i wouldn't be tempted to have more than one serving. just ate ONE serving and it was good, but i am afraid it will respark cravings so i am glad i only have 2 servings left...will not make that again for a while. now to drink a biiiig bottle of water and then out of the house to get rid of cravings!!

        i am so proud of you alaska and harmony, 7 pounds each!! wow, i am hoping to just get 4 pounds off by monday. great work!!

          hey alaska, congrats on your weight loss! and, partytrouble, i can't wait to hear about your weigh in next monday (or is it tomorrow?) either way, i am sending you positive vibes and know you will do great. yes, it feels wonderful to have 7 pounds gone. and now i am teetering just above the 170's (i weigh 181) and i am thrilled. i am also at a crossroads. when i first did atkins in 2003-2004, i started at 235 and got down to 173. this time, i am going to continue to do well and get past this point. and i'm a little nervous about it, to say the least. i am trying to take one day at a time and not get ahead of myself, yet sometimes it is really difficult to stay in the moment. i am really happy to not be in the cravings mode right now though. i hope i stay here!

            party trouble, DON'T WORRY! Yesterday was BAD but i took a nap, talked with whoever i could on the phone, went on a LONG walk, painted my nails, and pasted myself to this board. If you are really worried about the cheesecake, throw it out!!! i know that is such a waste but it could either be in the trash or your stomach! take it from me, tommorrow you will be so glad you didn't eat it. if i had eaten what i had wanted to yesterday, today i would have woken up saying "WHY oh WHY did i do that crap to myself!!!!". you CAN get through this...believe me..if i got through yesterday i fully believe anybody can get through any types of cravings. I really do believe that sometimes even splenda can cause MAJOR cravings so i am going to try and only eat that stuff in the evening after I know i am going to bed shortly. good luck and don't eat that cheesecake!!!

              thanks guys!! no cheesecake, little victory for me...yay! i definitely had control by the time i came back from a 5 mile easy walk, took a long shower, put on my favorite scented lotion, and brushed my teeth!! i agree, alaska, sometimes the easiest thing to do is throw stuff away and take the garbage out! i also find brushing and flossing helps, i don't want to ruin my pearly whites and also things taste nasty with toothpaste aftertaste in your mouth!!

              harmony, my weigh in is NEXT monday, as i am waiting until day 14 and today was day 7 for me. the first time i did atkins i went from a high of 223 (gulp) to 178/179 or so, and i have kept the weight off for 3 years but am ready to get the next 30 pounds off. you and i are about the same weight, and you will be in the 170's before you know it! and i know how good it feels to get past any round number....anytime my wieght ends in a '9' or a '4' i am happy as it means i broke past the next barrier....i will be celebrating once i get to 174, then 169, then 164, etc!!

                hi party trouble! i am up...got hungry and ate some delicious chicken i made the other night and now i can't get back to sleep! oh well. my next weigh in is my 14th day too so i'll be supporting you in holding out until then! yes, when i hit my high weight of 235, i was so sad and miserable...i literally had two outfits i could wear comfortably and without feeling totally self conscious. i don't know how tall you are, but i am 5'5 and that's a lot of weight to carry around on my little frame!

                i often brush and floss my teeth too when i am having cravings. it takes a lot for me to eat after i do that. how's the exercise working for you? i broke my toe on my left foot a couple of months ago, and in overcompensating for it, i now have a stress fracture in my left foot so walking hurts right now. i am still doing it slowly and not near as far as i had been, b/c i am not wanting to totally quit and for reasons i will not go into right now, a pool is not available to me at this time. anyway, i have been freaking out that not exercising as much would really hurt me. so far, i am ok though.

                ok, i'm going to try and sleep again. have a great night!

                  i am going to sleep as well, b/c 5am will come awfully soon! for exercise i am training for my second half marathon in september. it is sooo hot here, though, so it is really hard to run outside (actually got up to 110 degrees today) unless you go very first thing when the sun is coming up...even then, it is in the 80's. but i cannot stay on a treadmill for more than 3 or 5 miles...too boring. so i am making myself get up and run.

                  i totally sympathize with you being injured. i was training for a different half marathon last fall and had both a knee adn a back problem! probably from running distances with this extra 30 pounds on my frame. i am about your height, but am pretty muscular, so i look normal at 140-150 lbs...even as a cheerleader in high school i weighed about 140 and looked great in my little skirt, not that i am wishing i could still wear little skirts or anything! ha!!

                  hang in there with your stress fracture. i had one in high school when i ran track and it is really, really painful. and you have to be sure it heals well before reattempting stressful exercise, as you konw. too bad about no pool! would rowing machine be ok for you? jeez, that stinks. maybe you can do weights until you can get back to cardio?
