Thats just terrible. I agree with the others, take it to the top. Do it for your son and others who she is more than likely rediculing because of handicaps. She doesn't deserve to work there and she should be reprimended for her behavior.

what an awful experience...i am absolutely speechless. and horrified. i am so proud of you for hanging on to your self and not absolutely killing that woman...how obnoxious and hurtful of her to be so unfeeling...!!! you know, people who lash out like that are in so much pain...it's so very, very sad. i agree with everyone else. this is intolerable. i encourage you on your plan of action and will support you in any way i can.

Well there isn't much more than I can add to this thread. I agree with everyone here. This is unexcusable! And yes, the media is where to take this if you get no satisfaction from the store.

I must say, you handled this remarkably well. I am sure I would have not handled it as well as you. I would have been screaming and causing a big scene.

I wanted to thank all of you so much for your support! I really needed it after this incident yesterday. (I actually have tears in my eyes!!!) You've given me some really great ideas and I'm going to follow through with them. I think you're right - she's probably doing this to many people, with or without disabilities. Since I teach students with disabilities, she may even be doing it to my students!

I feel so much better knowing you guys back me up. I was so disheartened when my mil told me other employees were laughing, too. It's good to know that there are wonderful, sweet people in this world!

I will keep you guys up to date on what happens...

I would hit different levels of management at once, so there isn't any chance of this being swept under the rug. That woman is so done for...

((Cheri)) OMG! I just got ticked with you reading your post.

Please oh please don't stop until you reach the top. Dealing with the regional or district manager is THE best thing to do...even in the discount stores. I have so many adjectives that describe this person you dealt with, that are not very nice at all, and yet, I'm reminded that she possibly doesn't know any better past her nose how to deal with people/children with exceptionalities.

You did a VERY good job handling the situation with a professional manner. I don't know if I could have held my temper long enough to even walk back into that place and not go toe to toe with that human being. Maybe for those of us who've worked with kids with exceptionalities are more sensitive to the world around them, but it doesn't give humans who think they are born without flaws the right to do or say things as this person did.

Hey, everyone. In addition to speaking with the manager and regional manager of this store, I have also decided to write to corporate. The only address I can find at this point is the the one for customer service:

I am sending out a letter today. Hoping to catch the manager today, too, after I leave school. I've told the story to a couple of my colleagues and they have vowed to stop shopping there, too!

If you don't get satisfaction let us know. I would be happy to make a comment at every Dollar General in my area. Word can spread fast in a supportive forum like this...

My prayers are with you. And I must say, I am praying for those ignorant ladies too. I would talk to the regional manager as well as call the news media. Maybe that can help somehow educate people like that. You just remember that your son is the blessed one to have a mother like you to care for him. Can you imagine if that lady has a kid? That poor child would have to be lacking love from her.
