    Re: Tues Roll Call

Looks like i'm late signing in.....

Jess, I'm a promise keeper too, and i love to live life that way.

    What constitues cheating?

does a piece of sugar free gum, or a diet coke count as cheating. to me cheating would be a piece of chocolate cake, or a real soda. I've heard others say it's having something outside of your rung??? Like having a flaxseed muffin in nut rung?

Other than sampling outside the run, i have not cheated.

Don't feel bad SHeepie, i thought TMN was a man also until i asked her/him to post a photo and then i almost fell over...i thinks it's the picture that is confusing.....hee hee, it's funny when you think you are talking to a guy, and find out it was a girl...it still throws me off a bit....that's cuz i'm so new.

congrats on all you cheat free people, that's awesome, keep it up.

dh won the next bb game, so hes staying another night, called last night for the news. if they win both games tonight, they stay until friday.

still have not lost anymore, but i'm being really good

        Re: Tues Roll Call

        Hello All,

I wish I could honestly put my name on the list of non-cheaters but I just cannot give up my coffee. It doesn't seem to stall me as far as I can tell. I have gone stretches drinking decaf but I just plain don't enjoy it.

Other than that, I feel I am on the money with the WOE. I hope to start a thread on April 30, 2008 just like Jess'. Not only have you found success with Atkins but you have also contributed to the success of countless others trying to find a healthier lifestyle. Cudos to you, Jess!!! And thanks for all your words of wisdom.

            Re: Tues Roll Call

Morning all! I haven't posted in a while, but I'm still here. I'm down 23.5lbs now and 20 inches, it's been just over two months and I'm very happy with that result. I can't say I haven't cheated because that would be a lie. But I've kept right on with it. I'm planning on moving to OWL soon, as soon as I hit 180.

I'm super stoked, I just joined a gym for the first time in years and the first time by myself. I always went with my mom or sister before so this was a bit of a big thing for me. I took my first excersise class last night called Bodyflow, it is a mix of Tai Chi, Yoga and Pilates. It felt great and I can sure feel it today! I'm hoping to buy a package of 12 sessions with a personal trainer as well to get me started. I feel really good today and it has me excited to go back for more! I was so nervous before the class as I'd never taken one before but it was really great, the instructor was awesome!

Anyhoo, gotta get back to work, congrats on all of your successes!

              Diet Coke and Coffee

Since when is drinking a cup of coffee or having one diet coke (with splenda) a "cheat"?

Never was when I did it before, and according to Atkins' book, it's not.

I will have a cup of coffee every day, plus one diet coke maybe 2 times a week (never was much of a soda fan).
              Start date: 7/29/2007

              Scale: SW:235 CW:193
              GW:150

Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

              Mini goals:
              215 - met 9/10/07
              205 - met 10/17/07
              195 - met 2/20/08
              180

              I survived a two-month stall!

                Re: Tues Roll Call

                Good Morning All!

Back from the trip! I hope you're all doing well...it's going to be an awesome day!!

The Coffee and Diet Coke question:

Dr. Atkins said that diet drinks with Splenda are fine as long as you have no more than 1-2 per day and that they are caffeine-free. I'm not sure about the coffee, but I think it's a no because it's not on the acceptable foods list. The big thing is the caffeine dependency because according to the book caffeine can cause you to go into major craving mode as it affects your insulin/sugar levels. Major insulin reaction=major cravings. I'm not sure what everyone else does. I just cut it out because I never really drank coffee anyhow.

                  Re: Tues Roll Call

                  Hi all!
For some reason I couldn't get online earlier... not really sure why...
Got my final 5 miles done on the mileage challenge... was really hard today as my hip/back/sciatic pain seemed worse than ever... walked a really slow 2 miles and then biked (stationary) for 3...but I did it. 100 miles down for July.
Now that it's the end of the month I have to really think about what I am going to commit to... been thinking about water aerobics til my hip gets better... very confused. don't really want to commit to another 100 as it was very very hard and maybe I should be doing exersize that doesn't involve miles in the traditional sense... as long as I'm exersizing for an hour a day 5 days a week, do miles matter? Yet, it really motivates me and here I am now feeling better again after all those miles... so maybe I should? What should I do? I'm so confused!!! and the pain is starting to wear my nerves a little thin. Just when I think it's getting better it flares up worse than ever... then back down.
Anyways, starting to sound like a whiney old person. sorry. I'm just scared that I'll let the pain stop me from exersizing and then I won't lose wt... then I'll get depressed, then I'll start eating bad, then I'll feel worse, then I'll gain wt, then I'll get depressed, then the pain will be worse... so the only real course is to just push forward and exersize through the pain. thanks for working that out with me.
I'm calling the doctor right now so don't start.

There's been theads on the board where everyone weighs in on what they consider a "cheat". It will vary by person... coffee and diet coke stall some people, so then it is a cheat for them. If they don't stall you, then I guess you wouldn't consider it a cheat. I don't drink either, so there is no question for me.

                        Re: Tues Roll Call

The Caffeine Question. It really depends on what phase you are in actually. Induction pge 127, Atkins revised and improved, under beverages, to only drink decaf tea or coffee. Excessive caffeine "should be avoided" by those who suspect they are caffeine dependant. Page 189, Explains about stalls and or plateaus to stay away from the "java jungle".Excessive caffeine(found in tea ,coffee and chocolate and many soft drinks) has been to shown to cause hypoglycemic reactions, which will provoke cravings and cause you to overeat. When ommitting these things, it was Dr. Atkins experience that weightloss would start up again after ommiting the caffeine and aspartame regiman. In the phase of lifetime maintenance on page 222, Consume caffeine and alcohol only in moderation.Yet on page 230 he lists on #10 drink only decaffeinated coffee and tea. So you see, it really depends on the individual. He's suggesting to not use caffeine, aspartame, alcohol for it may stall or cause you to overeat. It's been my experience in the past that caffeine does not cause me to crave or stall. Get your book out folks. The answers are all there for you. I think Mitzies right, if it doesn't pertain to you, then it's not a cheat. You have to pay attention to his wording in his book. Hope this clears up any questions regarding caffeine and cheats.

                          Re: Tues Roll Call

                          Good Afternoon,

I am late checking in today because the paramedics had to come to my house. I was dizzy when I got up out of bed this morning it scared the heck out of me. My husband called the paramedics and they came and did my blood pressure 165/115 great huh? my pulse was 98. They also ran a ekg and that was ok. I ended up getting really sick So I am having a fun day so far. It took over 3 hours before I could even get up. I am feeling alot better now just really tired.
I have to go see the doctor later this week but I think I know what happened and this is sooooooooo stupid but my daughter found some ants in her room last night and she sprayed Raid all over her tile floor and there were puddles of it! So I go in there without any shoes on and I am standing in this stuff trying to clean it all up. I think the pesticide absorbed through my skin and I poisoned myself! This kind of thing happened to me before a couple of years ago. I was painting all day and not drinking enough water and I think all the chemicals just overloaded my body.

So that is my day. I am afraid I didn't eat right once I was able to keep something down. I ate toast and yogurt. Maybe tomorrow I will be able to get back on track. Sorry guys for being a bummer.

Jess congratulations on one year that is great. I hope everyone is having a good day. Sorry I can't read every single post this afternoon my eyes are shot and I have a gigantic headache.

                          See you tomorrow.
